      I read not too long ago that Ford has modified the rear suspension to correct the Mustang’s long history of breaking loose in the rear on rainy/slippery roads.

    As a first time winter driver and having my license for 2 years, I believe everyone should practice losing control in a controlled environment so you know what to do to recover without adding to the problem. I have an AWD SUV but even on some turns with ice and snow my car will fish tail. knowing how to recover saved me from fishtailing into cars next to me even though i did have to steer off into a parking lot. there's only so much you can do but it can mean alot in some situations.

    You could break this down into ASD: Aim, Stabilize, Direct.
    Aim: Look up the road and target your recovery space.
    Stabilize - whichever pedal's excess induced the skid, reapply it gently to restore balance and traction.
    Direct - Steer the whole car toward the recovery space you are still looking at. Thinking whole car rather than front tyres or body prevents over-correcting.
    Does ASD make more sense?

    1:15 he is mistaken. The reason is that the front wheels are LOCKED. So they have no desire to follow the direction that the tire is facing, because it isn't rolling! Although his advice on how to fix it was correct. You ease off brakes to allow it to keep rolling, not to add more pressure.

    • @colj001

      yep

    • @kinamod2k
      @kinamod2k 6 лет назад +2

      You're both kind of right. The front wheels can be locked BECAUSE there isn't enough weight on them. Also, sometimes, they're not locked, just not spinning at the speed you need them to be, because there isn't enough friction between them and the road.
      So low weight is the cause, locking can be the symptom.

  • @unskidable

    We should rely on a hardware such as Makibisi. Just raise the tire traction at a flip to save skidding troubles.

  • @BklynBabe

    Keep it simple! When you skid, don't panic, don't slam the brakes, and don't jerk the wheel hard the opposite way!

    My BMW E92 skidded out violently and unfortunately i was meters from trees and lightpoles so it wasn't an option to let the car skid out until it regained traction with a tree a metre away so i did my best and steered and a light pole hit my rear passenger driver side area, missing my front door by inches. Car was a write off and airbags deployed.

    ya but they all used 3 lanes to recover i dont know what country all has a minimum of 3 lanes per direction on the road. just today i got into a crash , i avoided 4 parked cars by accelerating in my counter steer but crashed into someone in the median . i believe people need to take advanced drivers training before driving on the road. i know if i did this wouldnt have happened DMV need to make these manuvers required and not optional

    I am here right after a hitting my car on a truck due to skidding on a bend for about 20-30 meters .luckily nothing happened to me, the cars bonnet area including the front chassis part was fully damaged .
    I was not aware about these techniques any way , but even if I knew them I am sure I wont be able to apply them because it happened in a a very short time period . may be a second or two
    My advise Please drive slow if the roads are slippery , so you can be sure on what your movement gonna be.

      Practicing in lower speed is nothing like the real situation when it happens traveling at full highway speed. In bad weather, drive one third below the posted speed limit.

      I got in a car accident last night. I spun out on the highway across all four lanes from the from left lane, and hit a car while i was spinning. I agree with this comment, because while the skills may help in this video, i couldnt see due to the rain, and it was too dangerous for me to do anything given i was flying across all four lanes

    Focusing on an object to look at is a VERY good idea, but steering out of the skid is just one part of controling the car. And it's actually more important to get your footwork right.
    Since this is hard to do and could quite possibly turn the situation worst by throwing the car in the opposite direction, it might be a good idea for novice drivers to simply brake hard.
    If the driver brakes to the car's full capacity, it forces the front to slide out under the retardation force, which acts like a countersteering input and works to pull the car straight, rather than make it spin harder.

    honestly these people need to watch alittle drifting tutorial. fuck all the "look at distant object". you understeer whether its FWD or RWD you let off the gas and brake tap alittle. you oversteer you ease off the gas alittle bit and counter steer. never let off the gas completely in an oversteer situation. maybe driving school should teach people what lift-off oversteer is. and in the case of a manual, you can even pull the handbrake a few times very quickly without locking up the rear for more than a second each time

  • @josephherron7671
    @josephherron7671 5 лет назад

    So many things wrong with this. First of all, NEVER apply the brakes on an understeer (or what this guy calls a front wheel skid?) that will only make the skids worse. You can reduce throttle in an understeer, but never ever let all the way off.

    @XXRichieXXrichXX
    If you break your rear tires loose in a RWD car, the worst thing you can do is let off of the gas. The typical terrible American driver will feel the back end breaking loose, countersteer to full steering lock, and let off the gas/hit the brake, which will just cause you to to slide back the other way and completely spin. Letting off of the gas will transfer weight towards the front of the car, reducing the already low grip on the rear tires.
