      Yea I've noticed that a LOT of tool manufacturers these days cut their costs by just skipping the whole heat treatment and tempering parts of the production line, we bought some steel scribes and centre punches and they all deformed with the very first use of them, so we sharpened them all and then did a quick little heat treat just with Mapp gas torch and a bucket of water and they haven't lost their points ever since, even after several staircase and balcony jobs where we used them religiously. You can turn a lot of cheaper tools into very good ones by just finishing the manufacturing process on em

    Not quite sure, but I've seen several comments saying how if it was a better aloy/higher carbon steel, they would've popped, and I agree. • @autumn5592
      @autumn5592 2 года назад +2

      It also depends on heat treatment of the tool.
      Harder steel is more brittle. However making tools reliably hard is difficult and costs a lot of money, easier to just temper the shit out of it to make it 'hard enough.'
      Downside is, this has negative effects durability, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.
      You can get some petty good tools out of medium carbon with a good heat treat.
      But, being mass produced and chinese, little care is put in.

      I went that route when I was young and dumb. That $400 box has held up better than the $3500 CrapOn box I had when I was a shop tech.

    6:48 fond memories of a training exercise at Ft.Benning ,Ga in 1974 (the Army doesn't have campouts) when 3 of us buried a dead Jim Beam bottle in the moonlight and saluted it by opening another bottle.

      And inspiring."Hope Springs Eternal"---maybe some future geek with a metal detector will hear that loud steady tone signaling hidden treasures and a brief dream of untold riches will become a fond...but alas futile....memory.

    Even though I knew better. I was secretly hoping the wrench would ping and a piece would rocket out through the side of the van taking a window out the wife’s car with it. So much for hoping the FUTC was gonna be the MOAP. Congrats on the commitment to see the job through sir

    You got my instant Luke for the title, and my comment for funeral. A beautiful video. The only thing that would have improved it would have been to wave the middle finger at copyright strikes and play “If I Die Young” by the Band Perry during the funeral.

    We also use those enerpacs and rams to widen the flanges of beams, so stiffner plates can slide right in and be adjusted easily then tacked in place remeasured to see if it has been placed correctly before welding.
