I will check out all your videos & see if one of those will work for me. I'm more word-oriented & don't have access to a lot of magazines anyway, as we just moved from CT to Ireland. I did, I did! I watched the whole thing (which is unusual for me. I am only now discovering that I may have some sort of ADD...lots of videos just make me itchy because the video-maker takes too long or dithers and can't find sissors or glue, etc and I am saying "get on with it, woman!") and, oh, as I was saying: yes. I watched the entire video and loved it. I don't see how you "see" what you can do with a page. It is amazing!

    Hi Joanne, great tips on making a magazine journal, although I have tried twice and failed miserably and threw them out why can't I just make a pretty one like yours, I love your magazine journals they are always decorated so pretty and look amazing! :) Love the sheep at the beginning, she is super cute, can't wait to see your flip, I will be drooling lol :) Hugs my sweet friend, Susan xoxo

      Hi Susan! Oh my friend, you sell yourself short. I'm sure your journals were just fine. I had another subscriber who wanted her journal to look like mine and I kept telling her that she needs to find her style. She practiced and practiced and she is now making gorgeous journals. Her name is Pramita and if you don't follow her, check out her journals. They are beautiful - totally different than mine, but reflect her style so well. Here's a link to her March flip: ruclips.net/video/vNNuOU_p_KU/видео.html Her RUclips name is: Journaler Pramita 2306
      Let me know what you think....I think you'll like her style too. xoxo Joanne

      Thanks Joanne, I will check her out. Honestly, mine were rubbish, they looked bulky, wrong size, didn't like what was in them, just a plain mess, remember I said I ended up just sticking in images to cover the paper? I didn't want a journal for sticking images in I wanted a pretty journal like yours that I could write in and add quirky things, but I'm not as talented as you are my friend :) xoxo Susan

    I wondered if you have ever considered another binding method? A bunch of my girlfriends took their stamping catalogs to a local printer and had them cut off the glued hinge and had them put on a spiral hinge. They said they wanted to have the catalog lie flat in order to use the catalog like an idea book or fold a section back out of the way without ruining the book. Also, I think it would be neat to have a post ruler binding system like Tim Holtz's. I've collected a bunch of old school rulers from the thrift store to do just that.

    • @craftyhodges
      @craftyhodges  6 лет назад

      Hi Dolores! Yes, I have tried the spiral binding, but I am left-handed and the spiral is a problem for me....so that's why I opt for no obstruction. I know what you mean about being able to fold it back - that's a nice feature. A post ruler binding system would be cool...collecting from thrift stores is an awesome idea - go for it!!! TFW. xoxo Joanne

I understand about you scrapping your journal - I did it for 3 1/2 years and I burned out. I don't think this journal will be quite as involved....we'll see. Come back and watch if you have the time. xoxo Joanne

    Thank you for the great tips, and I do believe that the US magazines are a different quality paper to the ones we get over here in the UK. Some of the UK ones are so thin you can't do anything with them, it is just a matter of shopping around for the best one you can afford and even better if you can pick one up for free. Tfs xo

      Hi Elizabeth! You can probably make any magazine work, it's just a matter of how you handle it. If the magazines are that thin, I think I would try and fine a stapled magazine and then do a pamphlet stitch to hold it together. Let me know if you have any questions. See you for the April flip! xoxo Joanne

    I put about 20 different little icons in my comment and it only registered the scissors! And it won't allow me to edit it! So: there were 3 different smiley faces, a bunch of hearts, a notebook, fireworks, thumbs up, applause and more but that's all I remember. It's all good though and I AM still HAPPY!!!

      @craftyhodges  6 лет назад

      Oh yes, I got an email from RUclips asking me to talk to the lady who uses every single icon available - LOL! They all came in your second comment! Thanks so much for your support...hope you're feeling better. xoxo Joanne

    It's only April and I think I'm going to do another magazine journal. Th one I made last year is a wonderful keepsake full of memories. Now....where on earth did you get that Breathe magazine. It's from across the pond and a little pricey.

    • @craftyhodges
      @craftyhodges  6 лет назад

      Hi Kathy! YAY, you're going to play along with me?! You're right about the keepsake of memories. I started looking at mine over the years and it really means alot....to me. I bought the Breathe magazine at Barnes and Noble. It is pricey, I think it was like $14.99 maybe? Something in that range. But I loved it. Hope to see you back here for the April flip! TFW! xoxo Joanne

    Great tips -- what kind of tape do you add to each page?

    • @craftyhodges
      @craftyhodges  6 лет назад

      Hi there! I use washi tape, that's it. so easy and adds a nice decorative touch. Hope that helps....let me know if you have any other questions. Joanne

    funny that you mention the somerset magazine... I was using one today for a journal and the glued page came apart. But it's ok it's only a magazine and I washi taped my page back... just hoping that the rest don't totally undoes itself or I will have to find another way to put it together.

      Crafting Vicky Oh no Vicky! Seriously? Do you think the spine is broken? I sure hope you can salvage it. Xoxo Joanne

    • @CraftingVicky
      @CraftingVicky 6 лет назад

      I hope so too... it seems like the page just unglued... so hopefully it was just that page. I will see anyway it's only a magazine right? So I can always find other ways to put it together if it doesn't stay put.

    Your videos are so cool! I love this idea and am so excited to work along with you. I can hardly wait for the next video. One question. If I am using glossy magazine pages as my base, will my glue stick be able to hold things to that page? Or will I have the problem of it popping off?

    • @craftyhodges
      @craftyhodges  6 лет назад

      Hi Bonnie! I LOVE that you're going to play along - yay! Good question about a glossy magazine. Are you going to glue printer paper to your pages? If not, then I would consider doing a quick sanding of the page - don't get down and scrub it hard, but rough it up a bit and be sure to use a good quality glue stick (like UHU) and be sure you use it liberally. In the journals I showed in this video, they all had glossy pages and the printer page sticked fine. A little experimentation might be in order. TFW! xoxo Joanne
