It did detach. I saw pictures where it was off, during the dinner, which was good thinking. It would surely be uncomfortable to dine with such a long and heavy train ( I read it was quite heavy)

The long train on dress, while beautiful, was absurd. She could not move until especially trained women came to help her with that train.
I think that’s what’s expected from a royal bride to have a long train and the bridesmaids are supposed to help her since their trained to do that.
