Hacking Subaru seats into VW Bus

Busaru.com - In this video we replace the crusty old VW seats with Subaru Legacy seats from the donor car used for the engine swap. No welding necessary, just basic tools and an angle grinder.

Up cycle yeah! The ‘77 has stash pockets that you can sit on, no? Still, the Subie seats are pretty durable.

Pretty sweet if you have/want the Subie seats. I grabbed some Vanagon seats w/ arm rests and no hack is required. Lack of arm rests would kill this idea for me. Great videos BTW.

I agree, arm rests are great. The original transporter seats didn't have armrests either, so until I come across some Vanagon seats I'll be keeping the Subie ones. They sit a little high though, so for people with long torsos that may be a problem.

Old video, but on The Samba, some guy hacked a set of late model Chrysler Town and Country "Stow-and-Go" seats into his Vanagon, and now it is all the rage. Small Car got into the act, and they now sell the seat adapters and the seats. Good luck finding the seats on eBay or Craigslist now. They are hard to find. I did this myself, using adapters from Germany, and I love them. Search: Samba Town and Country. That should get you the link.

+Forthwith Tx my buddy Miguel (big white Syncro) told me about those seats a while back. Knew a guy reselling then after converting the Chryslers to support wheelchairs. He never ended up working with them but the concept is great. Thanks for the tip.

Those seats don't recline though I think. It's a lot of work and expense to get seats that don't recline.

Thats great! I'm glad I'm not the only one - Subaru seats are so comfortable in comparison to the crusty old VW seats found in so many old Bays.

I'm wanting to put some late 70s Porsche 924 seats in my bus, but im not sure how to go about doing that. Any suggestions?

+vwbussesareforever The Samba may have some advice but I would get the seats and just start cutting and welding until they fit right.

+rbrtplly I made some door panels and skinned them with vinyl but didn't end up making a video.
