Finding this many teeth this quickly gets the heart pounding! Always amazing to think that these mega-predators once swam in the exact spot we were digging!
I have seen big game trails form from a single squirrel trail. After the squirrel came the opossum, then the raccoon, then the fox, then the coyotes, then the deer, then man. The trails then turn into highways. My thought here is; Do you think it is possible that the creek beds you are exploring could have been carved out while everything was still under water? Fighters lose teeth in the ring, sharks lose teeth where they feed. So, is it possible that these sharks were swimming thru that creek bed way back when it was underwater? Like they hunted right there and lost teeth doing so.
As a very old guy that once enjoyed the type of adventures you and your friends are involved in, I must say that your videos put a smile on my face. I am also very impressed with the knowledge you and your friends have regarding marine fossils and love the fact that you treat the young woman as a true friend. Good hunting!
I guess im asking randomly but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Morgan Kaysen i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Wow, you guys killed it. Lots of great finds. Even the broken pieces were cool. Awesome variety. Had to be such a good time. Got a new subscriber. Was fun to watch. Great video
I would love to fly there for just a day or 2 with you kids, love watching your videos! I would be so excited to find one quarter of the fossils & teeth you find.
Ive been fossil hunting since 1988. Ive studied paleontology since i was eleven. Ive collected in giant mine and other quarrys in south carolina but not in the chandler bridge formation.
Blackriverfossils rarely hunts actual creeks. He goes to mostly private land that is not available to most people. He also owns land on Edisto river. Most of his collection came from those places. Not to throw shade because he was the first to make videos. Still, most land is private and if they catch you digging its a hefty fine.
We loan our best finds to local museums but we really hope to start our own one day! Much love from Florida! Let us know if you have any questions and we hope to see you in the comments on future videos!
Sadly, It is illegal to dig for fossils in South Carolina. Nothing other than your hands may be used to collect fossils and a SCDNR permit is required to hunt and collect them. So no shovel, screens or any other tool. I have been researching this issue thinking I would join in the fun and put my degree in geology to use.
I've been to a VERY similar creek in the Summerville area (where I'm presuming this was filmed) twice before. First time around I found my first 2 megs (one quite pristine, the other not so much), second tine I found a fist-sized whale vert with shark feeding marks all over it.
I am always intrigued by the diversity of fossils you find in all these unique locations . If that is whats in these creeks whats buried in the ground surrounding them ?
I live in conway Sc and I'd love to go out on a adventure looking for teeth in the creeks. I've found soo many just on the beach but I wanna find my first ever Megladon
I've been trying to find this formation for so long now and keep getting directions to different creeks but never can find Chandler bridge. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I have a ton of teeth that look like that thresher shark. They do come close to shore where I lived in NC. We actually caught a couple in the Inlet and the piers.
Why are there so many fossils in the rivers and is the density of fossils actually higher than the surrounding environment or are they just better accessible because they're in the river?
Excuse my lack of knowledge.... why are you saying "mako" when the caption says "extinct great white"? Edit! Nevermind, you just explained it! I didn't wait till the end of the video. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep them coming!
Went dino bone hunting with the children one summer and instead found an old musket ball. That was great but we still havent found any dino bones in the ensuing years. One day though as its supposed to be a good(ish) location.
This was closer to Charleston than Columbia. Columbia doesn't have any tidal creeks. I'm not sure how far inland the tidal influence goes in this area.
I have a nice collection of fossal shark teeth but I would love to find them myself.. My collection cost me a pretty penny... A few of the teeth I have, I don't know what type of shark they are from..
Its the most productive creek in terms of volume that I have found. P.S. I love the gold content, my brother has really got into gold prospecting recently.
@@DiggingScience gold prospecting can be very relaxing but hard at the same time tell him to come subscribe to my channel I give a lot of good information about reading creeks and how to find gold
You are one smart guy. Very informative- you need to be a teacher. And do not let that young beautiful lady get away. Can a person look in any stream where you are? How far are you from the coast. Good video thanks.
Colton won't let her get away! I promise and thank you, I really do enjoy educating people about Paleontology and science in general. We have a state permit that lets us collect any body of water that could float a kayak!
I believe you have to have a special hobby license, if you collect fossils below the low water level mark (scuba diving), but not for anything above. I use to collect a lot when I lived on the coast (I was born and raised in Summerville, near Charleston). Now that I live in the Upstate, I haven't been fossil hunting in years.
Love your content but as a trace fossils guy, I have to correct you. Trace fossils are not body fossils. A cast of the gastropod is still body fossil. Trace fossils are for example boring inside clam shells, coprolites, or fossilized burrows like Chondrites or Zoophycos.
So, I'm reading (and watching) conflicting information about permit requirements in South Carolina. Does this type of hunting require a hobby license from the SCIAA Maritime Research Division? I just don't want to get in any trouble with SCDNR if I'm out in a creek somewhere.
from what i've read, hobbyist collectors do not have to worry about a permit. if you were to use some type of machinery or equipment to collect fossils, then you would need a permit. i think you do need to report archeological finds though
Pan ( move ) the camera more slowly. When I try to follow your scene it is much like watching my drunk grandma chasing a raccoon in the dark basement with a flashlight. Makes me dizzy. ( south Florida ) .

Where was this spot located at was it private or open to everyone

Where is SC, what creek?? My dad and I are going out to look for teeth but would prefer to not go with an excursion group. Love the videos!!
A lot of heart breakers but awesome video none the less.
Man been hunting in SC for years and haven’t found a creek that good yet!! Is Thresher Creek near Charleston or Summerville?

Just wondering why you said verbally that a shark tooth was Mako but then in writing on the screen you typed Great White? You did this about 3 times
I have a ton of teeth that look like that thresher shark. They do come close to shore where I lived in NC. We actually caught a couple in the Inlet and the piers.
I imagine items like this were gifts to stone age peoples who used flints and other rocks to make tools.. Perfect arrowheads.
They would chip to easy
Where abouts in SC? All creeks near Myrtle seem like just mud

I’ll be in north MB next month Can you suggest a few locations to look for sharks teeth thank you have a great day

Incredible! How do you go about organizing these trips? I'd love to get involved in fossil hunting like this- I just don't know where to start.
What do you do with all those fossils? Are you allowed to sell them or do you have to give them to the museum.
I Respect the shovel work I tried it last weekend and was destroying everything lol. Did manage some big verts tho.
Went dino bone hunting with the children one summer and instead found an old musket ball. That was great but we still havent found any dino bones in the ensuing years. One day though as its supposed to be a good(ish) location.

those broad blade "mako" teeth are really proto-GWS teeth. Just need the serrations...

what creek is this omg
why is there so many shark teeth in that place did the sharks die in a big pile
Sharks shed their teeth periodically, and then they are washed around by currents

What happens with these teeth?

Great hobby. Looks like alot of fun.
That girl is ridiculously cute
fossiliferous i see new sticker coming lol or hat
I would die getting to hunt here! Did y'all encounter a bunch of snakes back there? That would be my fear
I wonder if Native Americans used some of those shark teeth for arrowheads

she looks like my ex girlfriend from 1997 , spitting image.. her name was kellyanne
Why do you have to keep negging the girl about "breaking" shark teeth. What's your problem?
It's most obviously a joke and one she doesn't seem to mind at all.
how about you let her get the tooth out on her own? And stop trying to take it out of her hand? Nerds are so needy
Because he's the one recording a video??? Its way easier to get a good shot when you can control the object being looked at.
