I assure you, most architects that get into the top programs and graduate do well afterwards. Honestly the only way I don't see him being a very valuable worker is if he just would rather live the precarious life of a hobo nomad wonderer (which, tbh fair enough I guess) or there's some mental unwellness getting in the way of his ability.
If the former is true, someone should still see if he'd be down to help volunteer from time to time to help house some of the other houseless folks. If the latter is true, then that'd just be all the more proof we desperately need better mental healthcare to help struggling people rather than this socially darwinistic bullshit of basically leaving them to the streets then bitching and dehumanizing them when surprise surprise we see a tent city crop up

Why is it so sad? There's plenty of housing in this country now. Most cities have hotel rooms that they offer now. It's not sad he doesn't want to be housed because he doesn't want to pay any of his welfare check towards rent. He just wants to sit in this cardboard house and do drugs.
