Ive had this problem 4-5 times since buying this about 7 yrs ago. I did just see a video on YT where the guy diagnosis this as a capacitor issue; he shows how to replace some capacitors after a bit of plastic pieces removal. Thanks
Yes it works. Just unplug from the wall, don't try to unplug from back of the printer, mine won't unplug. I waited about 30 minutes just to be sure. Thank you very much.
Hi, been where you are.... but I found that if you unplug for 10 mins, then plug back in, but hold the on button for a few seconds. It defo works. I xhope that helps.
I have the same problem Amy, after replacing empty ink cartridges and choosing to go with expensive genuine Brother replacements. I ran the same cleaning process as you, taking three pages until all the crosses printed. The next day I went to power it up and it was dead. None of the suggested fixes work for me i.e. removing plug from socket and leaving for anything up to overnight before re-powering, removing the paper tray etc etc. So many reports on You Tube of other people experiencing the same problem. I now need a new printer but I won't be buying a Brother again!!
I am sorry to hear that this would not work for you!😥 I have since bought a hp and touch wood it is working brilliantly! Will never buy a brother again.
Thanks Amy. I've just ordered a new HP printer. So many models to choose from, but I've gone for the 7720. Cheaper than Brother too and hopefully more reliable. I won't be bothering with Brother again either.
@@thediymum925 Wow, yes, a real bargain. I bet the replacement ink costs more than that. Talking of which, do you have any recommendations for decent compatible ink? So much choice and its knowing which ones work best, or even work at all. Genuine HP is so expensive.
Ive got mine from stinky ink they were very reasonable and recognised them as soon as i put them in. The colours were the only ones that needed replacing from the original ones that came with the printer and the black is still going strong. I did purchase from them before for the brother printer to allow my daughter to still use it for college work while she is away.
Nice video thanks for showing us how. I came here looking for my Canon printer that wont turn on. Found out it turns itself off and you have to rock the button on the lower back.
Hi ,i have an MFC j6920DW with the same problem and have found turning off power then open ink cartridge door then repower, instead of the printer then doing the anoying self shutdown it will recognise open cartridge door, close the door and the printer returns to normal. I realise its not fixing the problem but it's an easy way around it. Have a good one.
Does the paper tray solution work for you? When I spoke to the support team they did not offer this as a get by fix. The repairs department were of the opinion I should purchase a new one.

How the f*** did you figures that out! You are a “GENIUS”! Our piece of shit brother printer has been out of action for ages!! Defo owe you a beer or two👍👍👍👍
Stewart Baden I'm glad my video was useful and you can now use your printer. Painfully trawling videos and discussion boards was how I figured it out. It's a frustrating issue but means you can use the printer still. Even the service centres don't tell you this!
@@thediymum925 Thanks Amy your video helped me sort out my printer issue, well a combo of the other guy who gave us the paper tray out method and your ink thing in and out method. I was going to take a hammer to the printer and I was really grumpy with fam’ feeling much better now and will make supper for every one tonight. Nuff said. Johan 006
Frustrating isn't it! Pull trays so they are just sticking out. Turn it on and when asked just push them back in. Works everytime for me. Hope it helped

Your supercapacitor on the power supply board needs replacing. It is defective and is not adequately storing the charge.
Thankyou I wasn't aware of capacitors before when I made this video. I have since had to replace a power board on a TV due to faulty capacitors.

The real problem with your printer not turning on is a failed super capacitor on the motherboard. The problem gets worse with the colder the weather.

The AC socket wobble is really not a problem! Inside is only a AC socket and a cable... The power source unit is to the front of the printer...
When the printer is turned on, the device error message appears, and then the printer turns off
