    Thanks for the call out in the credits! It just makes up for making me add the LS-208 to my sweetwater wish list. It’s a dangerous thing, that wish list.

    I own an Atlantis. Infact your review among a few other convinced me to get it INSTEAD of a U87.
    I'll be taking the Atlantis to Park Road (you know, lord of the rings and so on) to let them test it out at some point soon, been talking to them while doing voice over there for (NDA) about it and they are intrigued. One of the sound engineers admitted they don't really get the hype behind the U87, WHILE we were using one lol. Gonna try convert the studio to Lauten as the pref if I can lol.
    Anyway I just wanted to say thankyou for your amazing reviews and your palpable joy about sound and sound tech.

      Wow. Thanks very much! You’ve been doing some work at Park Road?? That’s awesome! WingNut all the way! That’s so cool!
      Yes. I hear that a lot about the 87. Industry standard but there are better mics for different jobs that should be considered. Getting Park Road to go Lauten Audio would be awesome!
      Thanks so much for the great comment! Do come back and let me know how it goes!

      @@TheRecordist Of course!
      Oh yeah. My first gig was on Dune 2. Did ALOT of the voices in the backgrounds as well as guards talking to each other and I'm the voice of the guy on the worm as he comes in for that BIG battle. Probs forgetting some of the voice work I did for the movie, was 2 days of solid recording. So that I CAN talk about.
      As for the other projects, well I'm VERY excited for em' can't talk about em' though haha, at least, not yet.
      87, is .... eh, clean. Honest. You can't lie to it. That's cool, but uh, The Atlantis? Well I mean it makes you sound like what you think you sound like in your head. It's also still very clean and honest but It just works for today's standard better imo. That and it plays nicer with newer interfaces.
      That being said ... I'll get an 87 at some point if nothing else but for the history of the thing. That and CERTAIN clients refusing to work with ya if you don't have one. Ugh.
      Anywho, yes I'll keep ya updated! Also, feel free to reach out if you ever wanna chat! 'Bout audio or nerdy stuff or voice over.

      @@TartanKiwi that’s awesome! I just watched Dune 2 a few weeks ago! That must feel really great!
      Yes. The 87 is honest and has its own sound. Industry standard never means the best, just what was used a lot a long time ago and then sticks. Still, it’s a nice mic.
      I’d love to talk more about your experiences doing voice work. Email me anytime: recordist@thetps.ca (recordist at thetps dot ca).

    Excellent way to demonstrate each mic in relation to the next. For myself.....and my needs (if I was actually doing work in VO) would be the ssssseeeeeexxyyyyy sounding LA-320. For the money, I agree, it has no right sounding so sexy. The same self noise as an $8,000 mic? OOooooo, talk dirty to me. I always love a bargain, and this is certainly it.

  • @SixoneSixx

    Could you try the snare mic on voice? I know it sounds wrong initially but I've also heard it works very well on vocals.

    I haven't watched the full video yet, but I notice there isn't a Clarion FC-357 in this lineup. Have you tried it? I own all the Lauten mics, and the Clarion is on par with the Atlantis albeit different.

    • @nurlanbabayev1086
      @nurlanbabayev1086 2 месяца назад +1

      Clarion is much more accurate (honest) microphone since its frequency response is flatter than Altalanti's.

    I record guitars and mandolins with a great condenser mike and am getting mixed results at best because my small room, while reasonably treated, still sounds rather crappy. Would you suggest the LS-208 because it is better at rejecting ambient noise?

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  2 месяца назад

      Hi there. Honestly, I would consider treating the room the most you can to deaden it before spending money on new mics. I realize that may not be what you wanted to hear, but the best way to get the best sound is to find ways of stopping echo, reverberation, and reflection.
      This can be done with homemade rockwool panels or even by layering scrunched up curtains on the walls. Or even moving blankets. For me, I did a mixture of moving blankets and layered curtains.
      But if it’s external noise that’s getting in to the mics, then that’s another story all together. Not much can be done about that without buying or making a booth.
      In that case, yes, out of all the condensers that I have tried, the LS-208 is the best at rejecting off axis sounds. Not eliminating them, but lessening them quite a bit.
      Hope this helps!

      @kw9172 2 месяца назад +1

      @@TheRecordist Thanks! I invested quite some money in treating my rather problematic room with 24 quality broadband absorbers and basstraps (GIK) which made a big difference. Problem is, I am running out of space and cannot treat the ceiling, as it is built shittily and will not support any treatment, so I will have to deal with some room nodes untreated. I was thinking about the 208 because I was getting the best results with a Sennheiser MD 441, which has a tight hypercardoid pattern.

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  2 месяца назад

      @@kw9172 oh ok. Understood. I wonder, would thumbtacking one or more moving blankets loosely to the ceiling be an option? That’s how I treated my ceiling in my unfinished basement where my studio is.
      But yes indeed, the LS-208 might help you in this regard. It’s hard to be certain but it’s worth a shot.
      If you do end up getting the LS-208, let me know how it works!

      It was on N. I wanted it on F but I thought it’s probably best I keep every mic on the flat neutral settings.
