    Brushing hair with static electricity makes it worse. It's not the same as frizzy textured hair. Have you ever seen anyone with naturally straight hair in an arid climate rub a balloon on their hair? And then the hair goes floating - repelling against other strands?

    I have the flattest, least textured, white person hair ever. It couldn’t hold a curl if I put glue into it. The one time I took a soft bristle brush to my hair it looked like I stuck a fork in an electrical socket because of all the static electricity

    I have straight white hair and after the brush the hair may stick out in different directions due to the influence of electricity from the interaction of the brush with the hair. and you need to use either antistatic sprays or iron your hair with wet hands. that's why foil or dental floss is a good trick for straight hair, because statics is a real problem.

  • @CrystalFier
    @CrystalFier 2 года назад +49

    So, the foil isn't actually for frizz, it's for reducing static! Straight hair is really prone to standing on end with static electricity, so using foil is actually reducing the amount of electricity around the hair strands.

    • @thebookwyrmslair6757
      @thebookwyrmslair6757 2 года назад +1

    Girl!! At 13:30 when you're like "just twist!" You make me want to create an account and make a short, just so you can see how much my (stick straight, super fine) hair laughs at that idea. :D To give you an idea, I'll sit there in a 15 minute car line, constantly twist a section of hair... and it falls out as soon as I take my hands off it. If I put it in a clip immediately, it sags back out within 15 seconds. 😆😆 That being said, none of these "hacks" work for me either... except maybe the pencil twist? But all of my pencils are packed right now. I'll have to report back once we've moved. :)
    BTW, I LOVE this entire series! And my daughter's rag curls turned out AMAZING! (Her hair isn't as stick straight as mine, so it holds curl a lot better.)

My hair in the from is kinky/curly/straight/frizzy mixed together with no curl definition. The middle/top is more kinky/curly with some curl definition. And the back is curly with the most curl definition. And I don't use heat on my hair.

    For everyone with natural non-kinky straight hair like me: Use wood combs or brushes and air dry your hair and the static frizz is no longer a problem.
    Yes, air drying is not always an option, however, it is better for your hair, as well, than blow-drying.

      Mine is straight as a board but I still get frizz and flyaways and I don't dry my hair. What I've found helps the most, I split my hair in half with center part. I french braid until I hit the nape of my neck, and then loosely twist the length into a bun. Most of any wave or curl will fall out for me but it's smooth and not frizzy.
      I live in Vegas, so while it's dry and we don't get humidity frizz we absolutely get static frizz without even brushing lol. Leave in conditioner is everything 🥲

  • @trendymisft

    I believe that frizz for straight hair is cause by static and the metal takes the electricity away, causing the hair to lay flat. A hair brush would cause more friction producing more electricity making more frizz.

    I have naturally very fine, straight hair. Soft bristle brushes add static to the hair, not sure what the science is behind it, just know it to be true. Especially if the hair is clean or lacking oils or products - which I don’t personally use because it’s really hard to find products that don’t weigh the hair down too much. To provide an example, I used a normal olive oil hair mask that you get at the drug store, I could not even brush my hair it was so stuck together (after I shampooed it out.) I had to use body wash four times instead of shampoo to remove most of it from my hair. Needless to say, fine straight hair is very finicky.

      I just don't see how it would work on any hair assuming you are supposed to wrap the hair when it is either wet or damp for it to work. Wet/damp hair wrapped in plastic is going to take an age to dry properly unless it's the thinest, fastest drying hair ever or you wrap it loosely which defeats the whole point of the cling film.

    to answer your question: depending on the reason for the frizz, a soft bristle brush could just amplify the problem. For instance, I live in a desert dry climate and static electricity *takes over* when I wash my hair. I could load it down with product, but then it gets greasy within a day or two. The foil tames the frizz by taking giving the extra electrons a place to go, and I don't get product build up and have to over wash my hair. But yes, for someone who just has tousled hair there is no reason for any tricks...just use a soft bristle brush! :D

    I think she's confusing frizz and static cling. My hair is mostly straight but has a wave if it's not weighed down by too much length. I have a lot of hair but it's thin and fly away in texture so I usually weigh it down with leave in conditioner or mousse. They say to put a ball of foil in the dryer so it makes sense to me that that would work.

Make smaller sections.. when doing any kind of roll style especially on thick hair like ours the section should be no more than 2by2. 3.. throughly detangle the section you are doing.. 4 the plastic wrap can possibly work if you hold the dryer over it fr a few minutes 🤷‍♀️... the floss and foil idea is just dumb 🙂🙂😂

    You probably already got the answer, but if you have frizzy hair, you can't always smooth it down with a brush when it's dry because a lot of the frizz just gets worse with the brushing because of static electricity. This is especially true in dryer climates, particularly in the winter. If I have this problem, I have to wet down my hair a little and use a blow dryer and round brush to smooth it out.

    A soft bristle brush would only cause static friz to get worse. I assume the metal in the tin foil reacts and neutralizes the static in the hair? This is a common problem in dry climate. I grew up in Ohio and every winter when the heat was on my hair would have all those fly aways and brushing through it just makes it worse. I live in Florida now and the humidity is a whole different issue. Lol

  • @DrTurtleBee
    @DrTurtleBee 2 года назад +1

    When you're hair is straight, brushes can actually increase frizz, especially in just cleaned hair. It's like rubbing your hair against a balloon. It goes through so quickly, static builds up and "poof".
    When my hair was short, I would purposefully give myself "muppet hair" by brushing it with my head upside down. Then when you flip your hair up, the static would give you a faux-fro for a couple of seconds untill it settled down, like the whispy ostrich feathers they use on Muppets for hair.
    If you're going for the super sleek hair look, the damaged hairs from the blow-dryer or straightening iron are even more likely to frizz. But if you put in a ton of product to tame the frizz, it can look greasy. Thus the tips and tricks.... Which usually are bunk anyways because they'll only work until the next breeze teases out those broken hairs again.

    To answer your question: A soft bristle brush on my naturally straight hair causes a lot of static electricity to build up, especially during winter. I ignore social media hacks because 99% of them don’t work for my hair. I control flyaways (the straight hair version of frizz) with conditioner. When I do get static build up, it can be neutralized by patting my hair with a fabric softener dryer sheet. That’s really the only hack I’ve ever found that works.

    I was thinking with the brush curl it might work if you used moose instead of gel and use a hair dryer to let it dry some it might actually work food for thought I love your videos and your energy always having me laughing and enjoying everything you post😍 long time subscriber

    The foil trick works instead of a brush in colder climates, because brushes build up static electricity and the foil discharges it. The more you brush, the more static builds up.

    The twist would work but you would have to tuck it in and let it set for so much longer. It's basically an undone Bantu knot

    The tinfoil gets the static out to tame the frizz. The brush can cause static. None of these are worth modifying. The models don’t look that great.

    I can straighten my hair and when I go outside, the humidity makes it poof back up! It stays "straight" but gets frizzy way more than the lady with the foil. I'm not sure how to explain to you why, but when it is frizzy like this, just brushing it will not help. It may make it even more frizzy. But I've never tried aluminum foil to get it to lay down better. It may work. I don't know the science behind it if it does. But I'm going to try it. Lol

      If you have wavy hair that reverts to frizz with humidity, I don't think the foil hack would work. That's really for getting rid of static which is more of a problem in dry air.

    I have thin very straight hair and the tuck and roll method works for me I just have to tie the hair to a piece that isn't a part of the twisted section or use a hair clip or bobby pin to secure it. Also you can take the hair in sections and twist them together in a downward direction adding a new section of hair to it as you go and get basically the same results. I do that one when I want my thin straight hair to stay in place for longer and want to get all the loose baby hairs into the twist with gel

      On a whole other note growing up I used to wish I had very kinky curly hair and always found people with dark skin more beautiful. As I got older all the reasons I wanted that seemed to disappear because of all the work it takes to care for kinky hair and the way society treats people of color. I have instead grown to just look up to the societal and physical maintenance people of color have to keep up with. I love your videos because they have taught me a lot about the culture behind hair styles people use to maintain their natural hair and still make it look beautiful. For me even your non done hair is beautiful, I wish that society here in America could just grasp that. I think Americans are slowly realizing that but it is so heavily engraved into the African American culture to just cover up their natural hair because that is what white people want. Everyday I see more and more beautiful women rocking their natural hair and that is amazing. I especially love to see videos and things of these same women showing their daughters how to care for their natural hair and rejecting perms. It is wild how many people I know have had to chop their hair off to start fresh because their guardians gave them a perm growing up and their curl patterns never recovered. So I think it is especially important that more and more parents aren't using perms instead they use protective hairstyles to keep their kids' natural textures intact. I love to see it and learn about it.

      @@l_7376no what I’m saying is not what you said. White hair will always act differently than black hair. White curly hair acts completely differently than black hair. There are caveats to this obviously, but regardless she meant what she said.
