Great summary. Those oversized hexes make a huge difference in seeing the units in context with the terrain and map locations.

      Those are not standard, right?

@@CptEggman Correct. The owner of the game had a local blueprint shop produce the enlarged copies of the maps at 130%. The colors were good, but slightly lighter than the originals. This actually made it much easier to see the trails and other terrain features on the forest hexes. We were definitely spoiled by playing on the enlarged maps! Made the reach to the middle a bit harder (and of all 6 players, I was the one who had to reach the middle the most, by far), but it was very much worth it. I'm considering trying to find a local print shop where I live to do the same thing. Just need to figure out if I have a table large enough to hold the bigger map layout first!

@@thetabletopsedge Wow, what an interesting project! The +30% make the map so much more comfortable to look at. GOSS can get terribly cluttered at times. Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a well-played game by both sides. Yes, getting across the Meuse is always very difficult. The idea in the campaign game, for the Germans, is that if you can't get across the Meuse, you try to take and hold St. Vith and Bastogne till the end of the game. I believe that will get the Germans a marginal victory.

I salute you guys that can play these massive games with hundreds of counters. I can't do it.

the way to do it is to form task groups of stacks for whatever mission you wish them to do. An assault group will be armor heavy, etc. Then, while playing, you are not moving hundreds of individual units, but decidely fewer stacks - belonging to formations for further clarity- at any one time. Plus, once you go on the defensive and have your defending artillery gun lines in place, you can forget about that sector until/or if the enemy begins to assault it.

No way of getting into Bastogne when they're "dug in tighter than a tick".

Has anyone ever won a Decisive victory in this game as the Germans? The US just seems unbreakable.

Bulge games are always tough going as the Germans. Which perhaps is as it should be.

@@ardwulfslair GOSS system remake. I loved the old WaR and PGG style games, but there were too many holes in it tactically to give a fair representation of how each army (British, US, German) operated For the allies, it was pretty much how you set up your artillery and maneuvered it in conjunction with your attacking force. For the Wehrmacht, it was alll about using superior tactics and superior weapons systems upfront (think MG42 and MkVs) to keep the allies off-balance enough to prevent the utilization of pure artillery firepower which would grind the Germans into dust.
