it was June the 30th 1979, some friends and i went to Pasadena to catch a glimpse of the filming, fat chance, headed back to Houston, drove by the Summit and the Bee Gees were playing that night, marquee said, SOLD OUT, but lucky us found scalpers and got to see the Bee Gees in concert!!!!! what a night, the brothers and band took a break, they came back and announce that there were to be joined by a special guest, Travolta came to the stage and joined the brothers to perform you should be dancing he didn't do the dance, he was wearing black slacks white shirt rolled up sleeves and cowboy hat bearded face just like in this scene it was a mad house, we were close to the stage not floor but on the side seating, remember as if it was recently, hard to believe that it was 43 years ago!!!! still have the ticket stubs
LOL...I guess the younger generation can't remember the young John Travolta, the days he played Vinny Barbarino on "Welcome Back Kotter", and just how the man could friggin' dance!!! He showed his stuff in "Saturday Night Fever", then again in "Grease", and again in "Urban Cowboy". He's got incredible talent and is truly, one of the greats!!!
@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 His career hit a downside like many do, but then came Pulp Fiction. And others. Hes still an A lister still in Hollywood.
And Michael, where he dances with all the ladies in the tavern. He's wearing that baggy overcoat to hide his angel wings and still the moves shine through. "He smells like cookies" Like Cruise, Travolta is one of the few teenage idol actors who made the transition into serious talent....Phenomenon, Civil Action, to name a few. There are not many that the general public recognize as famous for dance; Baryshnikov, Jackson, Hines, Travolta, Swayze, Walken and that's about it. Princess Diana was delighted with the opportunity to dance with Travolta at a White House reception.
This movie feels like home to me. My people are country..I saw it as a kid with my big sisters (all the time) I’m the only one that didn’t like country music..but I could sing along with all of them to this day. Now I love them for the memories they bring me. I’ve always loved this movie tho & I’ve always kept it in rotation..I just watched it twice a few weeks ago!
I agree I'm sure he hasn't danced like that in years and they've had other contestants that have danced for a living before.. like the boy band members
John travolta has a special gift when it comes to any dance john can quite simply take any dance ...routine n make it his own indeed especially this dance scene bravo ...its electrifying 🎉👍😬
He was amazing to watch. I was born in 1970 so i grew up watching this man dance. I Ioved him as Vinnie Barbarino in Welcome Back Kotter which we can still watch today. I believe that was his 1st role. But watching him dance just puts one in a trance ( didn't mean to rhyme lol) but it is true. His career went down hill for a bit but Pulp Fiction brought him back. Gotta watch his older movies, he was a sight to see. Urban Cowboy is one of my favorites. Proud to say i own it on dvd and 43 years later here we are still in "awe" over it.
Back in the early 90's I used to country western dance at a bar in Sanford, FL. Every Friday or Saturday night there were a handful of men who'd do a choreographed men's line dance, complete with the hat-roll-down-the-arm move. The band was behind chicken-wire. If you didn't leave by 11:00pm, you'd be sure to see a bar fight. Great dancers there.

John Travolta could really dance very well. I would love to dance with him with my dress on. 👗👗 I give this video a few thumbs up. 👍👍 Now, here is a rose for John who calls himself Bud. From Kathy🌹🌹👩👩
So many here in Texas , back then , thought he wasn't gonna be able to pull this role off ... Tell ya what ,the sure as hell did & then some . Especially when he came out on "Life On The Line" as a Lineman, the whole movie was great but he did that role 100% Justice . 2 of my favorites ❤️❤️🤠🤠 My daddy was a Journeyman Lineman Here in Texas, but traveled everywhere in the USA . He was called out n worked every single Hurricane and dangerous/destructive inland storms He just passed in June. He was a old fashioned, hard ass, even on us 3 girls ( I now know why, but I never got to thank him for that) as he got older , he apologized alot for it n being gone all the time..I always told him not to worry about it❤️ 🤠 ❤️ when I miss him I watch both movies..lol. he was alot ,really alot like the two guys in these movies (but everyone said he looked like a Mexican/Indian version of George Strait 😁🤠❤️)... But me I'm more like the Urban Cowboy movies but like both ... Bud and Sissy😂 Great clip!!! Thank you ❤️
Worked on a hurricane repair crew in Houston for ATT in 1983; my coworkers went to Gilley’s until closing time and slept in their work trucks the following day. My job was to loudly tap the doors on their trucks when supervisors showed up, so they could sit up and act like they were doing something 😂
Me encanta ver a John Travolta y más cuando baila, como en Urban Cowboy, Miguel Ángel, pulp Fiction, vaselina, en the boy in the plastic Buble todavía estaba muy joven !
Grew up a few miles away and parents went to Gillies at that time. Houston was exploding like no city in decades and stealing the spotlite from NYC and LA. Just the place to be back then.
I remember the day this was filmed. John Travolta was taught this dance by Patsy Swayze and Gator. She was so much fun to be around during the filming. Patsy is the mother of Patrick Swayze. It was not Patrick Swayze who taught John the two step in the movie the person who did worked at Gilley's and his name that we all called him was Gator and you can see Gator in the movie. A lot of people that worked at Gilley's and even some of the regulars got parts in the movie. This video was done so they could how the dance would work in the movie that is why you did not see this in the movie! But they did put the dance in the movie after all this you see in the clip. They finally got what they wanted and then he danced this clogging routineiin the movie. During the whole filming I never saw Patrick Swayse at the club. John never learned how to square dance during the movie. I know I was there and I knew how to square dance. Clogging is a form of country dancing and is related to square dancing if you clog while doing square dancing calls but those were never done just the clogging. There were a lot of scenes that were filmed but got cut out or cut up to shorten the film or else it could have been about 4 hours long. One night Patsy and her husband came out to party and they sat at my tables. They were celebrating because they had just purchased a bar out around Hempstead going toward Texas A & M. A few years after the movie yes the club burned down but that was the second time it had burned. There was great mystery about the club burning down both times. Never could underestimate Sherwood Cryer (Mr Pasadena Mofia)! The stories I could tell about that club and those around it. I also dated Mickey's saxaphone player for a couple of years. I may not know where all the skeletons are buried but I can tell you why they disappeared!
Hester Adamson I wish John would do more movies with some dancing in them! I love watching him ...loved him in "Sat. Night Fever", then this. my mom said that the love scene was filmed at my aunts apartment and she lived next door and that the eletricity used for the scene they used my moms apartment :) and they gave my mom and my aunt free beer :)
Having lived through the urban cowboy era in Houston I can say nothing like that ever occurred in any bar. Maybe in a different part of town...........
