To this very day I thought this was one of the better written scenes on the show. She reveals her identity to help another understand that they are not the only ones with the power/no power concern with a sibling. It was in an attempt to reduce pain which is part of the whole DC Universe storyline. It will be interesting to see what happens to Nia Nal at the end of season 6, the final season since Melissa Benoist will not renew her contract to spend time with her newborn child in LA rather than be in Vancouver - similar to what Stephen Amell did last year.
@@ryanabate1981 There is a season 7? Where? I said season 6 was the last and it was. Nia Nal did return in the Flash this last season for one epsiode however so we do get a glimpse as to what her future is. Probably the last time we will ever see the character.
@Sam S Your statement discussed season 6, maybe I misunderstood you. No there is no season 7 and in fact they tried to get Melissa to do a final episode in the Flash but she refused. Her reasoning was that to do am episode of the Flash would take a lot of focus from that show because they would have to address the fallout of Kara coming out as Supergirl and Melissa liked where they left that and didn't think they should go into great detail.
@@ryanabate1981 Yes, I think you misunderstood but I wrote. I heard something of the same thing in her refusal to return. Apparently the cast of Arrow disagreed as they come back for their one episode next episode. Right before the final run in episodes 10-13 dealing with Bloodwork along with other past characters.
@Sam S Arrow ended different than Supergirl though and Barry and Oliver had more of a past that could be used. Melissa was right, too bring her back for 1 episode could have damaged how they left things in her show and she wanted to leave things as they were. It was risky just bringing Nia back, I would have liked to see Alex though since she had a history with team Flash. But Chyler basically said the same thing as Melissa, she liked how they ended their show and wanted to leave it that way.

@@SunlessNick it would be perfect. The writers for Supergirl should totally pitch it. They would honestly get picked up before the pilot needs filming. All they need to do is film the backdoor pilot during S6. Or at least have it as a B plot in an episode that isnt heavy with story elements

@@calsh14 I've not gotten that far yet in Flash. In Season 5 Nia has literally nothing to do except be Brainy's on/off girlfriend. Oh, and that transphobia episode which feels like the writers suddenly remembered that she exists and because they couldn't think of anything better to do with her they gave her the most lazy story you could give a trans character. Also it comes outta nowhere; if they'd several times throughout the Season before this had a mysterious person watching/spying on Nia, this episode would've been much better in my opinion. As is it's not a bad episode just so random. And then in Season 6 Nia is basically the main character. She gets the most focus, has the closest tie to the main story given NXLY IS MAGICAL and honestly is more Nxly's rival than Kara in my opinion given AGAIN magic. So yeah, good character in Season 4, underused as hell in Season 5 and then overused in Season 6. Thanks for your time.

I don't want her to reveal her powers to Lena if would shift their friendship. It's nice to have women on the show that are friends and not always at each other throats.
I'm torn between wanting Lena to find out (because that would make for an interesting scene) and wanting her to not find out (because it would change their friendship)
Because after Nia just EXPLAINED to Kara "I have alien powers and my sister doesn't" WHY oh WHY would Kara even tell Lena who is a Luthor she is Supergirl BEFORE Nia who is going through the exact issues Kara is going through. Think of logic here. Lena is HER BEST FRIEND (not lover or romantic partner)... if anything Kara is protecting herself in case of any mishaps or anything being used against her. With Nia its a different kind of friendship but they (Kara and Nia) are going through the same problem. Stop being so upset because Lena isn't in on Karas secret! Well now Alex really isn't either. Its TO PROTECT HER FRIENDS AND FAMILY!
This was a really powerful episode, though it was hard to watch when Nia's sister said that she wasn't a real woman. I'm glad Kara revealed her true identity to Nia. I've been waiting for that from almost the moment Nia came onto the show (and almost instantly became my favorite character). I just wish that Kara had also told Lena a long time ago. We all know Morgana doesn't take secrets very well. ;)
@@lapurdy71 I heard a theory that the reason Nia got the powers is because her and her sister are hybrids. If there mother Married a Naltorian and had two daughter, one cis the other MtF, than the Cis one might have gotten it. But because of the mixture of Human-Naltorian DNA, Nia got it.
@@chunkymilk5412 Nia is fully transitioned, so that makes her a girl, but even if she was only partially transitioned, as long as she identifies as female and uses she/her pronouns you should respect her and use them.
Ok Nia’s sister here really pisses me off for a few reasons. 1. They painted her hometown as some sort of “tolerant oasis” where anyone was accepted. Well, if that were true then the MINUTE Nia came out as trans to her family they should’ve all considered the chances that she could’ve gotten the powers too. Instead, they all assumed that their cisgender daughter was bound to get them or there were no other options. And the fact that they were all so supportive of her during her transition means that they considered her a real woman. BUT APPARENTLY NOT. They should have all equally considered the chance that Nia would be the one to get the powers. Instead what we got was her sister throwing a temper tantrum without even trying to see where her sister was coming from. Yeah, I get it, their mom just died and she really wanted the powers so it’s tough time but that is NO excuse for what appears to be rampant subconscious transphobia especially towards your sibling. And it probably won’t even be examined any further because they’ll just make up after a minute long “emotional” talk. The CW loves those. They lied about her family and they’re gonna pretend that something like this can just be fixed with some sappy makeup set to random music in the background. Ok so that was just one REALLY long reason. But it still INFURIATED me. Screw Nia’s sister. 😑
Their mother believed Nia's sister would get the powers because she had a dream about it when she was pregnant with her. That's all. It had nothing to do with Nia being trans.
I cannot believe she told Nia instead of Lena, im so upset rn I've been waiting from S3 for her to tell her that she is supergirl... ughhh.....KARA!!!!!

When I used to watch the show, I knew that Melissa was good looking. But now when I watch scenes on RUclips, I realise how incredibly beautiful she is.
My mum said it to me once. I had just come out to her, and I know that she was still figuring it out (and still is, its only been a few weeks) but it broke me. I never thought she'd say it to me, and every time I remember it I just break down and cry. It isnt something that you want to hear, especially not from your family
Meh not sure what your story is but if you were born a man and wish to be woman you cant and that is something you have to except you can’t change that instead you have to learn to be comfortable in your own skin it’s a lot easier to say you were born with the wrong body parts or there is something wrong with your body than coming to terms with there being something wrong with your state of mind but the first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one so I sincerely hope you can make peace with being you and no longer trying to change yourself into something you’re not everyone is beautiful just the way they are so don’t try and change it
Isabella Scott I think her point was that it doesn’t make sense how Nia got powers. If they’re genetic, and only women can get it, and Nia was born a boy, it wouldn’t make sense for her to get them. If they’re mentally stimulated, though, based on perception of gender, that would make sense. I think Nia’s sister, in her angry way of saying it, meant Nia literally couldn’t develop the powers.
@A A Yes but in this show's rules that doesn't seem to be the case (at least not yet, it very well could be). So it's a genuine curiosity in this case.
@@chunkymilk5412 gender identity is biological and neurological. We have decades of research on this subjects. She is biologically female. You're just an ignorant bigot.

Because there's cases of biological women getting a xxx or a man a xxy, etc etc. Plus intersex people also exist, does that make them biologically nonbinary? No, not really. Her sister Prue by her attitude and mental acuity of zero that she's not worthy of having those powers, second of all Mia the power line or the genetic code jumped to her as a boy so in her defense she wanted to make sure that the genetic code did not stopped since she got them so she was researching the dream book to see if she could transfer those powers to her sister well did you know that code shows near it didn't choose her sister so there you go on that issue the code shows her when you chosen you have to follow the lead.
Obviously the powers do transfer down mother to daughter. Even if the daughter has the wrong body. The powers doesn't care about the body. Only the soul.
The CW did such a great job casting Kara and Barry. The rest? Fine. But Mellisa Benoist IS Supergirl and Grant Gustin IS Flash. They absolutely should have put them into the movies.

She did renew the contract, she signed on for 14 of the 20 episodes
Now do that with Lena
@martinski what does this have to do with that-

but how if it was the spider
Like she released the spider? I don’t know cause I feel like nia would have a vision of something like that

This scene alone proves why Dreamer needs a spinoff after Supergirl ends.
So many stories can be mined from this character, and I think she should have the torch passed to her by Kara to become the hero the world needs
So much!
@@SunlessNick it would be perfect. The writers for Supergirl should totally pitch it. They would honestly get picked up before the pilot needs filming. All they need to do is film the backdoor pilot during S6. Or at least have it as a B plot in an episode that isnt heavy with story elements
Shame she was misused as hell after Season 4.
@@tritonk1759 oh I 100% agree. There was some good moments in the last two seasons that I really enjoyed. Her crossover with The Flash was pretty good, I wish it did a different story though
Driving a car must be SO boring when you have super speed and flight. Lol

I don't want her to reveal her powers to Lena if would shift their friendship. It's nice to have women on the show that are friends and not always at each other throats.
I'm torn between wanting Lena to find out (because that would make for an interesting scene) and wanting her to not find out (because it would change their friendship)

I have a bad feeling that if Lena knows it will cause a rift in their friendship of some sort because Lena and Supergirl don’t get along great
Because after Nia just EXPLAINED to Kara "I have alien powers and my sister doesn't" WHY oh WHY would Kara even tell Lena who is a Luthor she is Supergirl BEFORE Nia who is going through the exact issues Kara is going through. So she is a trans?
How traumatic for someone to mention genetic sex, when it comes to sex-linked traits.
@@phantomtq Both Nia and her actress are Trans woman, yes.
That's called irony.
I cannot believe she told Nia instead of Lena, im so upset rn

Meh not sure what your story is but if you were born a man and wish to be woman you cant and that is something you have to except you can’t change that instead you have to learn to be comfortable in your own skin it’s a lot easier to say you were born with the wrong body parts or there is something wrong with your body than coming to terms with there being something wrong with your state of mind but the first step to fixing a problem is admitting you have one so I sincerely hope you can make peace with being you and no longer trying to change yourself into something you’re not everyone is beautiful just the way they are so don’t try and change it

Melissa was soo damn good in this TV series!
I think she just doesn’t understand how her sister got the power and she didn’t. I hope in another episode she realizes her mistake and apologizes.
