Come Running to Me just gives me straight chills in my whole body and brain. This is... out of this world. Incredible performance by James Genus and Lionel Luke!
Oh My God.... What a find !! This is Herbert Jeffery at his utter finest!! He brings a smile to the dullest of faces. And Come Running To Me I haven't heard for what must be at least 20 years, and this version is beautiful. What a pleasure...
Seen at Ghent Jazz (BE) at 7-7-17. Pfff, what an overwhelming performance, very similar to this one. Full audience happy in "space" before, during and after the concert. Only the greatest on earth are able to make this happen.
I thought it was you was something I heard in Karatina in 1975 in Kenya at 5.00 pm jazz hour with Willis canover. I will never forget. I thought it you.
herbie ,zawinul ,miles, james brown duane allman could sit on a groove and make it happen for ever the one will ustain like a fibonacci beginning before the sequence..this shit makes me slayed and toast as well almost too much ... just rolls over me
Herbie said he was a huge fan of sly stone...and if you listen to herbie funk records, especially the period beginning in 1974, you can hear what sly was experimenting rythmically in his 1973 "Fresh" album, the bass and drum playing is totally new for that period (andy newmark on drums and rusty allen on bass)
A FACT...Mr.H IS one of the "GREATEST" Musicians,PERIOD!! (And I USUALLY HATE THAT appellation,as I feel MOST of the time, that's a FALLACY!!!) That being SAID.....We're ALL fortunate to witness his GENIUS!! ASHE!
@@haroldmsimmons They seem to be sharing the Herbie tour now? Finally managed to get a ticket for the 2022 Europe tour and I would die if Vinnie wasn't there. I need to see him ONCE!
Hi Abram! Sorry about that, there was a typo in our video description. It was intended to read, "Terrace Martin, who's collaborated with Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar." This has been fixed now. Thank you for pointing this out!
It was nice to hear "Come Running To Me" live. However, this drummer is a real clunky choice for this band. I've seen a show live where he completely butchered "Actual Proof", for example. His style is much too dominant and "straight forward" for this context - which makes sense given that he is actually a hip hop / r&b drummer, not a jazz drummer. Mike Clark wasn't a jazz drummer either, but he was a funk drummer who basically revolutionized the way jazz and jazz-funk is played. I'm sure there would be plenty of other - better - drummers who could nail that style. And even better yet, since both Clark and Harvey Mason are still alive and well...why not get the real thing?
for watermelon man, between 5.28 and 5.38, the drummer seems to have botched t he proper sequence. He is absolutely not in step with the bass, and that makes that section very clunky and dissonant.
No, they actually metrically modulate there. A dotted quarter in the previous straight 8th groove becomes the quarter note in a new swung groove. They all do it together.
Herbie Hancock should live for 900 years!!! His Piano playing makes me "sick"! It's like the grand was invented by and for him 👌🏿♥️
my dudes this set straight up turned me into a piece of toast
Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest there has ever been. He always pushing the boundaries of his instrument, and that's what music is about.
That metric modulation around 3:35, from the quarter note triplet to the eighth note. ridiculous and so, so smooth.
that made me yell "holy fuck"
Nerd! 😂
Its lovely
COME RUNNING TO ME!!!!

In FUNK, Herbie LEG the way in the 1970's, no one could compare, only George Duke came close....

Not true....
36index he has a song called sly... named after sly stone lmao. Must be a fan if he made a song inspired by him
This is .... Perfect ... 9/11 would watch this again , very nice !
Herbie's solo on Watermelon Man was so good it created a pocket universe.
what is the effect used by lionel at 20 min?..........its so cooooooolllll
It's a guitar synth pedal of some sort. Hopefully that narrows your search!
Can anyone recall the names of the Lionel Loueke's tunes arranged into Watermelon Man and Cantaloupe Island?
i seem to remember its called sixteens or something like that. i saw them do it once
WHAT IS THAT WEIRD SETUP WITH THE DUDE'S MIC HOOKED ROBOTVOICELIKE INTO HIS KEYBOARD? SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME I WANT TO GET THAT SETUP
Roland VP-550
What kind of vocal/keyboard effects and auto-harmonies is Herbie using on "Come Running to Me?
it’s really just a vocoder it runs your voice through the oscillators of a synth and gives it that effect
OoooomyfuckimgGoOdwowwowwowwwoowooowoo!!!!

Billy Hart
Too many snaredrum, agree
Compare to this guy, Vinni is moderate..
samsamba08 I'd blame it on the mix.
You must be kidding!!!
76 years old?

jacob collier really already has a lot of influence on the scene
"Come Running To Me" came out almost 40 years ago.
Drummer kinda dry, bring on Vinnie!
...scandal...
