    Congratulations Adam!!! An excellent life lesson for us all how perseverance pays off. I must give you credit for sticking with it all these years. You're multiple repair attempts and expanding to the new ponds is really a testimonial to your character. I'm thinking how you can share this series with your children in the future, so they see how hard work pays off and the benefits to not giving up. Great job as I have followed your channel since the beginning when you bought the property and blamed Mike Morgan for costing you $350k lol! Best thing that could have happened - now look at your place and how it has grown. Keep up the great work!

    Would you be willing to do an experiment? Don't add any more pond dye for a while, let it clear up to a natural water color. Just to see what it looks like?

    • @mr.shannon6137
      @mr.shannon6137 10 дней назад

      There are several companies that sell fish friendly pond flocculant or clarifier, which coagulates the turbidity (sediment and other suspended particles in the water) and causes it to settle to bottom this clarifying the water. That might be an option. I believe he likes the way the dye looks, so probably will not be interested.

As you already noted, you might still have leakage but if so, that water movement through the soil has a remedy in getting cycled back up to pond #1. What is nice is that it has really turned out better than originally planned with now having 3 ponds. What a change in the weather. Great to see the pond full Adam. I've enjoyed watching from the beginning. During my summers in college I worked on Interstate road construction and learned a lot about moving dirt and compacting it. Your first dam build made me shudder because of the lack of good compaction between lifts. After two more attempts I think you have it right now! Can't wait to see the hockey rink.

    @Hometowneacres you should build a hoist system in the garage that can lift/ lower, then shelf/ store that battery system! Then you wouldn't have to move them so much for alternate uses around the property. Then you could put them on a skid to lift into your truck with the tractor

  • @theodorebear1179
    @theodorebear1179 11 дней назад +1

    @13:00 you are talking about "Virgin" ground vs compacted ground, and while technically correct (partially) you still need a mat of rip-rap through the channel until it gets behind and below the dam. Water may not do *as much* damage to "virgin" ground, but it will still wear it away quickly if there is runoff rolling through that spillway.

    One think to remember is that a large pond can get by with a smaller outlet pipe because it takes so much more water to raise the level. A small pond would fill much quicker and would require a larger pipe.

  • @twodogsandtheirfamily
    @twodogsandtheirfamily 14 дней назад

    You could probably wire in a sensor in the big pond at the overflow, where if the water level is below the top of ths stand pipe, it allows the solar to pump water from the bottom pond. When it gets full, it turns off the pump. That way it would just top off the big pond whenever there is solar power available and not waste water either. That should be fairly simple from a controls perspective with a couple relays.

    I would consider the pond full when it is about two inches from full. I would want a small buffer in case I got a large rain or snow melt. In my opinion an overflow should not be used, but I understand the desire to see it completely full after all that time.
