seen many people drill out the rivets and remove that speaker adapter. but as you have shown its not needed, just cut out the speaker and put in new ones.
Just FYI, For the right front speakers Green is the positive and Blue is the negative. I wired as you explained but I was not happy with the sound. So I googled for the wiring diagram.

It's only $10 for the speaker connectors and $12 for the speaker bracket. How cheap are you not to buy it and you can always leave your car back to stock if you sell it

@@pjslon9219im gonna guess much better. i dont think the celica cane with factory sub bit came with a few sound systems and all were pretty average to complete trash and these cars are 20 years old now

Wow I just found the official manual and your right. I wonder if I did all of mine backward. Not sure how I messed up the most important part.

It's more easy to install the panel with the window down. Great set up!
I ended up wiring the speakers backwards on accident. Green = +, Blue = -.
also using a heated up knife can get a clean cut on the old speaker supports.

I was a poor college student back then I didn't have a lot of money. But now I'm driving a supercharged Audi with an upgraded sound system.
