    This is the most important skill in Rocket League. If you master this technique you can save any shot. My whole play style is based off shadowing.
    You explained everything perfectly SunlessKhan. I always try to explain it to people when they ask, but from now on I’m going to just show them this video because it recaps everything that needs to be said about shadowing.

    Really good video Khan! I'm champ 3 and even I learned a bit - A few things I would like to add though: Shadowing in 2s with your teammates behind you can sometimes be a good decision, especially if they're just recovering. It's an excellent tool to slow down your challenge so that your teammate is ready to receive the ball if something goes wrong. If you do decide to challenge right away (as you suggest in this video) and you don't win, your opponents will have a lot of time to recover ball possession leaving your teammate in a 1v2 which is not ideal. If you instead shadow and challenge when you know that even if you lose your teammate will be in a position to get the ball, things will go better much more often.

      Luke Rutten Good point, shows just how powerful this skill can be with communication as well

    • @TheJunnutin
      @TheJunnutin 9 месяцев назад

      You can also slow down the attack with shadow defense giving your teammate(s) the opportunity to take the challenge while you're ready to block the possible shot. If you're not the 3rd man that is. Much easier if you're in comms though. Trying that when solo queuing can be.... difficult 😅

    This skill is simple to learn and fairly easy to apply yet so effective. Makes a huge difference in defense. Arguably one of the most important things to know.

    • @Mexijuan

      Astro. Do you many apply rather than imply?

    • @daleg2511
      @daleg2511 6 лет назад +3

      Agreed. No one seems to have any patience when it comes to defending and go all out on that panic attack missing the ball completely and leaving the goal defenseless

    Great video! Sent it to multiple friends! A few things I feel like were left out as far as benefits to shadowing go. One huge benefit to shadowing is that it is keeping your momentum up, not allowing yourself to be caught in a situation where you are flat footed, that one may be somewhat obvious, though I feel like it important to note as far as a general rule of thumb goes. Second thing I feel like you should be aware of while shadowing, learn to use markers on the ground to know you cars relation to both the wall and your own goal, since your camera will 99% of the time be looking behind you. Learn to guide yourself using the mini boost pads, having this presence of mind is an easy way to rack up 30-50 spare boost for counter attacking in case you lose out on your corner boost after your first defending touch from shadowing. It is also a good way to not take yourself out of the play going for those tasty boost canisters. Great video!

    So many people don’t understand this concept and it’s defense 101 in soccer. You don’t charge a player down in defense and stab at them. You let them slowly gain ground, getting closer and closer until they screw up or you see a chance to challenge safely (preferably when your teammates have gotten behind you)

  • @kenzii7948
    @kenzii7948 6 лет назад

    Coming from a Champion 3, “Shadowing” is used to force the player to make a play. For example they’re dribbling so you’d boost up to them but then turn away quickly so they’d flick the ball. JHZER mentions it in one of his 1v1 videos. In this video I saw it more as correct defence positioning. Great video though! Keep up the good work

      Just tried the training pack. Gotta say it was a bit of a let down, even though the last three (18, 19, 20) were obviously there to ensure you let a few goals through.... lol

    You are relatable and I think that's what makes us all flock to your vids. Or maybe it's because I suck at rocket league....

    This helps sooo much! Just before I saw this video I was playing some 1s. And I already did shadow defense unintentionally. It's just the best way to save the ball, because usually ur opponent is waiting for you to challenge him early so he can outplay you easily.
