I’ve been farming for black river for a week with no luck, for my blighted corpse build, shame it doesn’t increase the size, this is the first vid I’ve seen about it so thanks
@@hassifzaharin4797 last night i I was in the middle of teleporting and a random single elite werewolf was attacking me, I decided to kill it before teleporting and I couldn’t believe my eyes, black river dropped from it 😂, finally
Not always. Many times you activate it and the skeleton runs all the way across the screen away from the closest mob. It targets randomly. One reason I'm on the fence about it. It's great in most cases, but when you need to burn down one mob in a room full of them, it can be frustrating.
I didn't realize that black river doesn't work with blighted corpse explosion, thank you for pointing that out. Edit: Did some more testing with black river on blighted corpse explosion. It'll still consume 4 corpses and will deal the extra damage, but the area of the explosion stays the same.
Howl is my favourite necro unique, i never played corpse explosion in diablo 3 because i liked the range on corpse lance. Howl brings some of that back
I've read online that black river does work with blighted CE. Multiple people said they've tested it and it seems like while the blighted area doesn't increase in size, the tick damage does scale up accordingly. Personally I'm still in the process of farming for one to test it myself, cuz god is it hard to find answers online I feel like most of the D4 player base has no clue on whether shit works or not cuz there's no way to tell if something is a bug or an actual intended mechanic. On a totally unrelated note, I was going for a thorn summoner necro build and I wanted to know if the AOE thorn aspect applies to minions as well. Spent hours online couldn't find ANYTHING at all so I tested it myself watching countless replays in 0.25 speed until I went low-key insane. I am 95% sure that it does NOT proc on minions, the AOE damage only procs on your character. Not that anybody asked lol but still
It only procs on you however there is a golem morph that allows 30% of your thorns to transfer to the golem I think it's the bone golem. Also there is a legendary trait that allows all of your minions to inherit a percentage of your thorns damage as well. Hope this helps
I never knew this existed until it dropped and I said, "Holy crap this is perfect for my build! Finally a unique I can use!" Never did get a 2nd one, though, although I have 2-4 other uniques of every kind, and 80% of them are useless.
@GingerGamingMentor Have you found that howl from below works with the blighted corpse explosion skill? The howl effects doesn't seem consistent to me from testing as a corpse explosion seems to proc one or the other effect randomly, not both.
Fun to see there is no absolute truth in this. I have both the scythe and the gloves, and I can't figure out if the damage output is higher. One thing I'm sure though, is that I run out of essence pretty often.
Using Black River with a Shadow DoT style build requires a bit more finesse because you want to hit "critical mass," which is enough Blighted Corpse Explosions active on the ground to generate basically infinite corpses. So you'll want to keep an eye out for the first few corpses generating and then detonate them on their own (not a full use of Black River) to get the "corpse engine" running. Then you can stack a bunch of Black River Corpse Explosions. Apparently, Blighted CE can only stack up to 5 times, so Black River let's us effectively circumvent that cap and stack 25+ corpses worth of damage in an ideal scenario.
Does this work with the blood mist aspect that triggers corpse explosion? Was trying to set up a build and this info would help decide whether or not I'd want to use black river.
Droped 2 times (never before) today (wt4 lvl 79). Now I have every unique min 2 times except the f****** deathless visage I need and grind for 😢 Any hints for me?
Could you test and comment if this combination works properly when you dont have corpse explosion on your bars? Specifically using the blood mist corpse explodes. I know the gloves work with it even without CE on tour bars but i dont have the scythe
I feel like there's no reason to use a 2h weapon in d4 unless you're building a fuck ton of "damage to healthy enemies" to try to one shot everyone and wipe bosses to half hp in 1 hit. Which is unfortunate. I did some testing last night and even with a significantly more powerful 2h weapon, a 1h weapon with a shield off hand burned up mobs faster and felt better overall to use. Attack speed is just that critical. Even got CE and minion builds.
The key part about 2h weapons is that it increases the effect of aspects by 100%, so if your build has a powerful effect to lean into the 2h is a great option.
@@chrisjsilveira right but you still need to be able to effectively use your skills unless they are one shotting everything.. there's tons of benefit to using 2h weapons. But the significance of the attack speed differential cannot be overstated. DPS isn't everything and that's especially true for a summon/corpse necro. Having tried both extensively, the build feels dreamy with 1h but like I'm covered in tar when using 2h.
The issue with that item is it consumes a total of 5 corpses per cast and only yields 120% increased damage for it. Idk about you, but that math doesn't add up to me. Corpses are valuable. You use them to Regen your resource and keep your minions healthy and damage boosted. If you run tendrils they're also handy as a defensive tool and to proc cc bonuses. Both our builds generate a lot of corpses. But sucking them up 5 at a time would eat that up pretty quickly leaving you without any to use when needed. And for what, 120ish% increased damage and a bigger aoe? Idk man. Seems like decon fodder to me.
I don't see this as an issue more of a boon. 5 corpses is 5x6 essence instanty Which imo is much better than casting 5 time to get the same. Means you can fill you essence up quicker for your main skill
@@GGMentor didn't know it procced that passive. But even still, trading 5 corpses for 1.2 corpses is still a huge damage reduction. You're literally removing ammunition from the field.

its 120% per aditinal corpse not 120 in total...so 4 aditional corpses are 480 % in this case plus the 100% standard dmg from the first corpse is 580% dmg in total for 5 corpses against 500% for 5 single explosions.

False info Howl of below works no matter what. It’s no need to make a skeleton to chase enemies when they’re right on top of the corpse. Same damage no running needed
Howl from below is a lot of fun almost looks like "army of the dead" when you get going, the two combined i would say no.. For me anyways I wouldn't use the two together. Nonetheless it's a neat 2h weapon.
Black river is trash. 1h, so you lose the ability to get 100% increase to an aspect on 2h. Consumes random increased number of corpses. Even if it consumes 4 extra, that is 130% x 4= 520% plus the 100% from first corpse for 620% damage. Not running the black river means those same 5 corpses woyld be 100% × 5= 500%. 620%/500%=1.24 or only 24% increase to potential damage per 5 corpses. However, consuming 5 corpses at once only creates 1 explosion, significantly reducing lucky hit procs down to only 20% of what you would get from detonating the 5 corpses individually. Often, running both uniques is not an option. Howl from below wins everytime. 40% increase vs 24% increase. No brainer. Being able to run 2h with 100% aspect bonus, no brainer.
Black River is a trap, it's not worth the 5 corpses you lose for just 130x damage when you can use the 5 to make 500x damage, also if you use the skill that makes the explosion darkness then it's a mega nerf as the 5 dot pools way out scale the single one.
