Man, I have to hand it to Satriani, his playing is so meticulous that his live stuff sounds almost indistinguishable from his studio work. That is REALLY HARD TO DO. I mean, the precision you have to have to pull that off is something most professional musicians can't do.
Guthrie Govan is a monster. Petrucci is a monster. Vai is a monster. Gilbert is a monster. Bettencourt is a monster. BUT, Satriani is, by far, my favourite monster.
I agree with you and what separates Joe from those other great players you mentioned is not the physical technical of playing but Joe musical melodic compositional soulfulness which is so beautiful..

my how this man has evolved since I saw him in Santa Rosa, CA at the LBC in the eighties and my friend took guitar lessons from him the 70s in Berkeley. Ah Bay Area musicians.... as the who said "long live rock, be it dead or alive". it is still alive!
Just saw him in Beverly, MA at the Cabot apparently opening his North American tour. Incredible!! Wish he did this tune! Couldn't believe my eyes when Kenny Aronoff walked out onto the stage!! That was a huge bonus!!
I wonder why live performances of certain songs are always a lot faster (too fast actually) than the studio version. When played relaxed, it's much more heavy. Now it sounds stressed and tense.
Argh! Love this song but it's meant to tuned down half a step, that's absolutely critical! Wish Satriani had a little more strictness to his reproduction of studio tracks sometimes. Only sometimes.
Really love how punchy and tight this rendition sounds. I might like it better than the Satchurated performance… except for the solo. It’s too free and misses the vibe.
