R.I.P. Ozone. Aka Adolfo Shabba Doo Quinones🌹🌹He was a soul train dancer for years and was so humble. Loved the movies and still enjoy watching them. ❤
@@ianphillips5523thats the true word, Iconic! Shrimp said he was messing around between takes and they all started freaking out saying, we've made the movie! His dancing, paired with Tour De France is probably The standout memory for most people who have seen the film. Tour De France is indelibly stamped in my heart and mind because of that.
Breakin & Electric Boogaloo WILL ALWAYS have a special place reserved in my heart, thank you so much for the memories Hollie. Much love to Lucinda & Shrimp and RIP (Return if possible) Shabba Doo 😘🙏
There was nothing like the 1980s decade. Music, fashion and dancing were exploding on the movie scene, MTV was fresh and new and was taking the world by storm and Break Dancing was dominating every facet of entertainment. Lucinda Dickey was a total hottie!!🔥🔥We miss you Adolpho “Shaba Doo” Quinones R.I.P. my brother.
The audition scene in Breakin' is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. It is absolutely perfect in every respect. Concluding with that fantastic hug between Ozone, Kelly, and Turbo which made the movie!
The broom scene is THE scene of the movie. Can’t tell you how many times I rewinded the tape to watch that scene. Was 5 when I first saw it (born in 1985). Even when I noticed the strings later on - still magical to me. Absolutely loved this film.
My Dad took me to see Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo at an old movie theater in downtown LA. Said movie theater was beautiful. It resembled a cathedral of sorts. Anyhow, this memory and film are etched in my heart. Kudos go out to the entire cast and crew. Rest easy, Shabba Doo.
Breaking dancing in UK appeared 1980s where I lived in UK. It was a moment I enjoyed life the most. It was definitely wild, fun and free spirited. I loved the music, the dancing, the fashion, and also the people. Not all but many people who came together and felt like a community. However, it didn't last long in UK for me. It faded away, dissappeared as fast as it came. Sadly. It was the time that helped me gain a lot of confidence cause I was part of a 10 B-BOYs team, and we travelled, won awards. I grew a lot because of breakdancing.
The soundtrack is so good and the last two sequence in the movie are so electrifying and feel good. That Broom dance is legendary, it should be up there with Dancing In The Rain dance. Awesome film!!
Wow this is amazing, I just was watching Breaking to last night been watching Lucinda's videos all day came back to RUclips read this video posted an hour ago. Amazing love her love the show miss the 80s
Wow! this was awesome. It was good seeing Lucinda talk about the movie. I'm not sure if I've ever seen her in an interview talking about it recently. I'm glad she embraces it and understands how huge this movie was/is . She is a part of history. I grew up on Breakin and Beat Street. I remember seeing turbo with the broom and going home trying it lol. And I definitely added that Poppin Taco wave to my bag. He killed it. One of the best intros of all time at the beach RIP. To hear Shrimp talk about learning floorwork from watching and working with Mr. Freeze and giving praise to the east coast was huge. And it explained how he was able to that so well. Out Cali you rarely seen anyone go to the ground .It was poplocking and waving for the most part. And vice versa on the east coast. Look at Beat Street. The only one who didnt go to the ground was Mr. Wave. Everyone else did a floor routine. That was signature NY. So for Turbo to say wait I want to learn all of it was like Bruce Lee lol And while there were others on the East Coast who could break better than him, I haven't seen anyone who could do both better than him. Shrimp could poplock, wave, flair, knee spin, back spin, uprock, etc. Shrimp could do it all. And RIP to OZONE!!!!! I remember first seeing him on an episode of what's happening lol he was part of the poplocking crew making fun of RE-Run who was a great dancer himself. Salute to him. And great casting for Ozone. They needed someone to be that mature person opposite Shrimp being so young. Ozone was the one who was the glue and brought the serious side to the movie. Great Great interview Hollie I can tell you really love the movie. Subbed!
Yeah hard to believe it's been 40 years. I remember being stationed overseas and cats were playing this track nonstop on their boom boxes, along with the other popular hits at the time.
I was such a good dancer at age 5 that my family and friends nicknamed me, "Boogaloo Shrimp." I had no clue what it meant or that they were referring to Michael Chambers, a real dancer. And then one day I finally saw the movie and it clicked. Thats why they were calling me Boogaloo Shrimp! I was so in awe of him. Edit: I think before I saw Breakin' I actually saw Michael Chambers on MTV or some other show in the 80's. Thats when I realized it was him. We watched A LOT of MTV in the 80's. It was how we could see the newest and latest music at the time.
WOW! I remember back in the summer of 84 standing in line for this movie with my Dad & his girlfriend just to see Breakin. Tell this very day I still love this movie
One of the greatest dance movies every made; but what I would like to mention, is the stories behind the dance - wealthy family lifestyle - merged and linked through dance to lower income families - big business needs not being concerned with how they can negatively affect the lives of average people and an entire community - the changing of hearts of wealthy people to eventually invest their time, money and resources to seek the interest and needs of others and not being concerned about getting anything out of it - ALL SOCIAL PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT US TODAY AND NEED TO CHANGE - These lessons from that movie should be a learning ground for all those things - and I believe that is the message that Shabadoo wanted to convey.
I have both of these movies on DVD. These were iconic movies growing up and learning how to breakdance. Ozone turbo and Kelly. Long live TKO. RIP OZONE ☝🏽🙏🏾
Thank you Hollie for doing this interview. I was a Bboy from the 80’s & danced for 36 years. I went to see ”Breakin 1 & 2” at the cinema when they first came out. It took over a year before they reached video. I remember when Breakin came out they put out on video “Breakdance You Can Do It - with Ottis Melody” he was teaching & in it there was different scenes from Breakin. After that, we were searching for that version of Breakin but it never came out. Shortly after “Breakin 2” hit big also. I still have all the original videotapes, tape cassettes & vinyls from the movies. It was an amazing era as Lucinda said.
As a dancer for over 30 years, my dream was to write a dance movie, along these lines. No one in Hollywood would entertain my idea for a modern day version or a "Breakin' 3". Taco, Shabbadoo, were role models to myself, as a dancer and what I was hoping to accomplish. Although my script is registered, it is a shame no one can make this happen.
Thanks for these great interviews! It's so cool to see people who didn't grow up in the '80s have such reverence for that time. As a DJ I still rock "Tour De France" (laying it over an EDM beat) and it always gets people hyped to this day.
Makes a lot of sense now why Turbo was so much better than everybody else in the movie. He got to practice with the Rock Steady guys. He was dope and added some of the NY style. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
facts! I think he was one of the best to do it for this reason. He was like Bruce Lee lol I'm from the Westcoast and went to the movies to see breakin and beat street. When I saw Turbo go to the ground, I said Whoa! dudes out Cali didnt do floorwork like that. That was all NY. And NY didnt really pop and wave like west coast dudes. Even in the beat street battle the only one who waved was MR Wave lol. Everyone else went to the ground. So for Turbo to be able to do both, was crazy!
I was 16 when Breakin' came out. Hung out at Venice beach. Road my bicycle and the RTD everywhere. I loved growing up in L.A. in the 80's. Could not dance to save my life though. Loved this movie. Shrimp popping to Tour de France with the broom is the best.

Its odd but I hated Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo, when it first came out but over the years after watching it multiple times ( I own both DVDS) I find things I never noticed the time before and it has become My favorite of the 2.
Turbo and ozone and the soundtracks to the breakdance movies and the Madonna who's that girl movie and the singles video to it I was about 5 when they were doing there thing but it's what got me into the hip hop culture honestly it really did and stayed with me too n now it's the biggest genre in the world hip hop culture is alive n kicking for sure n tbey said it was jus a "fad" honestly! And being a white kid supporting the scene wasn't as easy as it is now I had sort of racism from kids in ny school because I was so into black culture n clothes was crazy I'm not comparing or complaining jjua explaining what it was like I had to get some dude to buy me nwa straight outta Compton n i was in kids homes as a kid and rap really resignated with me the trainers n clothes to o because life wasn't great when I was young ny mum n dad were irish ran away at 16 n had me in London a year later n I've been in England all my life I love how multicultural it is I liv3 in south london n it's very diverse so the hip hop scene has really had an impact more than the kids now realise

I would’ve loved to have seen Toni Basil play her role.
Lucinda is a true gem!!!!
I love this movie. Shrimp was my idol.
7:17 The Beatles movie Hard Days Night in 1964, Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon in 1973, and plenty more movies were filmed and released in the same year.
