Carl, something I learned the hardway too, next time you want to get a hand up under the rear fender, jack the bike on a bikejack and drop the shocks loose. Much easier that way.
Yep I was going to jack it up but just figured it would only get me a little bit. I Didn’t think about doing it and disconnecting the shock that would have helped alot. But they still need longer bolts in those kits they are not even long enough to be flush with the nuts. I would not trust them. Thanks for the great tip much appreciated.
Hell yeah. I like this for so many reasons. I really like that style Harley, idk why I've heard people say the Sportster is a "girls bike"?? Personally I think the baggers look like a Grandpa's bike. I love the color scheme with black and blue. Also you really break the install down to each bolt and washer. Lots of times people take it all off, cut the camera, then show you everything back on. Also I like how you admit what parts are a pain to deal with, again lots of times we tend to not admit when something gave us problems cause we don't want to look like we had problems with a simple rack. Because YES, sometimes the simple things do give us the most problems.😆
Another great video. I found a used rack on eBay but it was missing the hardware and instructions. Would you mind taking a picture of HD’s instructions and posting it? I’d like to get the part numbers for the curved washers.
I am currently at work but I will get it to you later if you can message me on instagram and later I will send pictures of the directions and part numbers
Thanks Dave I love the way the new seat looks just got to get some nice weather to test it out video is up. Thanks for watching I really appreciate it.
Hello Carl. Great install. As you know the Sissy Bar Upright are no longer available with HD. What would you replace it with if you have another option ? Great channel
I didn't know the sissy bar was no longer available . I do believe the luggage rack is discontinued. If you look around on ebay and stuff you may still find them around. I know I have seen a lot of similar stuff on amazon believe it or not. give it a look. Thanks for watching
Thx. This helps with showing me how one option will look. I have a 2021 XL Iron 1200 and I plan on riding it from Dallas to Sturgis in 2022. I am keeping the single seat look just a bigger seat and a bigger lug rack and sissy bar combo.
I am looking forward to it also. I just wish I could get the snow and cold weather to go away. I can’t wait to go south. Thanks for the full watch I really appreciate it hope all is well.
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl all is well. You can watch her two wheels. She just came to visit florida. You can come anytime you want. Let me know. I have a spare room.
Carl, another excellent video! I bought the Vikings bag for my 16, XL1200C. It's a medium sissy bar bag. It will hold my fullface helmet if I want to leave it with the bike.
Great info. Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with viking bags I did a video on it it was the second video I ever did. And unfortunately I may never give them another dime it was so bad. I think they have great products but if you have a problem or need customer service beware.
@@andyhorn2509 and it sucks because I have seen stuff I really want. I have never experienced anything like that it my almost 50years of buying stuff. It was that bad
I think it should work. The only problem is I think they have been discontinued. If you look around you may still be able to find one somewhere. Thanks for checking it out.
Hi Carl, thanks a lot for the info you send me about the 48 front fender install, we can solve the problem right away. Your bike looks pretty cool, I think that squeme paint is the best for this iron 1200s. Hope one day I can put my hands in one of those. Thanks again, nice video!
Thanks for the videos really enjoy them. Question though are there 2 washers on the rear fender one under and another on top where the two up seat would mount? Early in the video you put one underneath but then also put another on top looks like the same washer. Thank you
I believe it was one on each side unfortunately I am away from my bike at the moment. I will watch the video when I get a chance and see if it jogs my memory lol. Thanks for watching
There is a special washer that goes underneath between the bracket and the fender and a plastic protector and a washer on top. All of that hardware came with the luggage rack. Don’t know if you did just a seat im not sure if you would need them 🤔
Nice job Carl, I’m waiting for the same sissy bar to come in any day now & I just put a Saddleman Step Up on my Sportster which a an amazing seat, changed the whole look of the bike & is so comfortable. That luggage rack is really nice too I just took mine off to make room for the new seat, I’m gonna miss that rack, really comes in handy
I will probably have my seat reveal coming next week! This luggage rack works with the 2up seats. I love the whole setup. Can’t wait for warm weather to do a review of the bike with all the mods. I still have a couple more things to get put on!!!
I tried installing the luggage rack a few months ago but couldn't get the bolts to get into the fender bracket on both sides. Pissed me off and haven't tried again.
Its been a while since I did the install but I remember I had to buy longer bolts. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you get yours installed let me know
@@MotorcyclingwithCarl oh, thanks! To be fair I noticed the other video right after I wrote this comment, sorry about that! May I ask if I need to use the screw they provided with the luggage rack or I can actually use the one I already have along with my two up seat? Thank you very much, I appreciate your content. Keep it up!
I don’t remember off hand it’s been a while since I did that install. Thanks for watching I hope the videos helped. Can’t wait for spring and to get out riding ans making more content.
It’s been a while but I believe I bought original Harley hardware but also bought a cheap set on Amazon that came with longer bolts. I don’t remember if I left links in the description I will look into it when im home later and let you know what I find
good job! When I installed the hardware on my Fat Boy, I had to jack up the rear fender in order to get my fat arsed fingers to those nuts on the back side of the fender. Stay Safe out there!
I had more of a problem because the bolts were short. When fully tightened they were not even flush with the nuts. When I used the longer bolts I was good. Someone else also suggested jacking it and disconnecting the shocks that would have made it really easy. Thanks for watching and commenting much appreciated

Yeah, that rack is hard to find. HD no longer offers it, and when I tried eBay, it was not compatible. I finally found one on Amazon here. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019OEY9JA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This one is a flat black finish tho'. I'm going to have to spray paint it to get it match the gloss black of the sissy bar and fender.
It is a awesome rack I am betting they discontinued it because of how it mounts (not removable and difficult to install) but I love it so glad my dealer was able to get it for me.
I know the cussin' is just part of working on bikes (or anything else). The only time there is plenty of room for anything that bolts to the fender frame/support and under the fender is when the rear has been raised up before by someone else.😜🤣😲🙄
I hope everyone enjoys this video if you have any questions feel free to ask!
I've looked everywhere and can't find the black luggage rack anywhere. Any other suggestions?
