I knew nothing about hockey and still don't to this day. but I distinctly remember playing the bejesus out of this game in the mid nineties. thanks for the upload
Hunter sharp Me too, or at least NHL '94 which is apparently the best in the series. I got hours of fun playing it with my friend and still know nothing about the rules
The stuff EA had in their games was excellent back in the Genesis days. I always loved the cutaways to other games in progress for an important play. They did that in Madden too. Yet here we are nearing the end of 2021 and we don't have any of that stuff in their games.
I randomly clicked on this to go down memory lane from childhood and as the intro was playing and everything I actually remembered what to do on the controller. Played this game and all the nhlgames so so much just awesome nostalgia. Furthermore I think it's pretty crazy how the teams you've chosen just happen to be the cup finalists that just played when I viewed this clip for first time. Blues beat Boston just week ago
I remember getting this game for my birthday in 95, and getting annoyed because my buddy would come over and spend HOURS configuring lines, creating players and making trades since it was the first game in the series to allow player creation and trades.
Great times! Im gonna have to pick me up a Genesis, so many good games, simple but fun, for the times very colorful graphics but it is the gameplay and fun factor that I feel is still unmatched in the newer systems. Thanks for the video!
Hot take: 95 was better than 94. Create a player, the actual award ceremony at the end of the year...the perfected one timer with a buddy (man we used to SNIPE on breakaways). I never understand why NHL 95 doesn't get the same love when it improves on what NHL 94 did.
I was 10 during this time period and for almost 30 years now I’ve been telling people that NHL was and is better than NHL 94, yet people got 94 on a pedestal.
I really don't see the hype over 94 the game moves to slow. This game on Genesis is the best. The first time you can play a season, harder to score and right speed of game play
I personally think this is far better than 94. It's 94 on steroids with way more options and a better engine. If this game had fighting I'd venture to say that this could be the greatest NHL game of all time. I don't base that opinion off of graphics obviously but the fun factor is just unmatched. Even with the wrap around score every time cheat. You can take your favorite NHL star and have him leading the league in goals scored by 100. Even more goals depending on the time people play per period. This game is just amazing. From the sounds all the way down to its packaging. If you're a person who has a true CIB copy you'll also have the trading card that came with the game, manual, registration card, poster of all of the teams, their rosters, and player ratings, and an EA advertisment card wanting you to buy the four way play adaptor so you can plug in four Genesis controllers at once. My trading card from my copy is Eric Lindros. I've had my copy since I bought it new in 95 and have changed the internal battery 1,000 times since then because I played it so much lol.
NHL 94 gameplay is way better than 95. And the graphics in 95 were garbage. 94 isn't too slow, 95 is way too fast and has jerky gameplay. Go play 94 for 2 weeks and you won't be able to go back to 95.
The ONLY thing that stinks about these games in current day and age is 9 times out of 10 if you find a used copy the internal battery is more than likely going to be dead. Remember, these batteries are 30 years old in most of these cartridges. You can still play the game Exhibition wise but good luck starting a new season or new playoffs. You won't be able to save your progress. If you're a younger person looking to purchase these older NHL or any sports titles cartridge based for that matter make sure you ask the seller if he/she can test the game for you to make sure the internal battery isn't dead before you purchase it. If there is a season already started from someone in the past it will be there once the seller turns the game on and you'll see a continue season option. That means your copy had a battery replacement somewhere in its lifetime. You can change the batteries yourself but you have to have the cartridge opening tools, a steady hand, and know how to solder. Most people already know this but I figured I'd toss my two pennies out there for those that do not.
96 was my favorite for Sega before 98 came out for PlayStation 1 and altered the universe forever. But 96 was definitely the best one with the very realistic sounds from the game. Penalty box swinging open, the redwings goal song played when they scored etc

Same here man but I still remember so many players from this game.
This game actually had an NHL award ceremony/show at the end of the season/playoffs.

Yes loved the updates on other games!! I hope the College Football game coming up has that! (Game breaks, updates..)
41 year old and just rebought a megadrive and have this game coming tomorrow. Can’t wait haha. Modern games are boring me
Tell me about it. I got my Megadrive last year and just yesterday added splatterhouse 2 into my collection. Great fun
@@FreeThinkAlwayshow to you purchase mega drive please love NHL 95

I noticed that as well.
Trades !!! Create a player !! This was all i wanted for Christmas as a 13 year old kid living in Buffalo New York
Woke up with the 1:10 song stuck in my head and remembered exactly where it was from. Such a classic game.
I remember getting this game for my birthday in 95, and getting annoyed because my buddy would come over and spend HOURS configuring lines, creating players and making trades since it was the first game in the series to allow player creation and trades.
Just randomly selects the 2019 Stanley Cup Final in 2013. Coincidence? Nope. This guy definitely has a time machine.
They have a Gameboy Color version of NHL 95 called NHL 2000 because it's a wonderful video game too play.

Just played this last night for hours. Still love my sega.
Cam Neely scores the game winner, nice. Who's the dead man who hit me with the salt shaker?

95 had more features, but 94 just played better
I remember playing this it's a good game
@VideoGaming4U Good Upload Man I Loved NHL 95 As a Kid Which Made Me Become a Avid Hockey Fan Besides NHL 94!
1 of my FAVORITE games
3:02 that sound still makes me laugh. Kale-oww as i hear it always.
1:51 The greatest sound from any sports game or possibly any game ever created. Your mouth will open up and do it too. 95 > 94 Genesis

WTF!? YOU PREDICTED THE STANLEY CUP FINAL ON ACCIDENT 6 YEARS AGO! :o
Everyone in the first couple rows of seats near the end boards are naked. Haha
I dont know many that bought nhl 95. By then we were moving on from 16bit.
With this game you could get it down to the byline then pass it back and the foward would often score

I loved Jeremy Roenick. He was unstoppable.

Hey all, is this game worth playing if you never have?
It’s the best game ever.

As long as the stupid organ dosen’t play randomly midway through the game i am good
Fuckkkkkinggg classic
Ugh the music. Unbelievable!
Greatest game ever. This guy wasn't that good though. No big slapshots from Borque and very few one timers. Have to set them up.
this is way faster than org
Why is it a 16-bit system can render the players portraits perfectly but a PS5 has shit graphics for NHL 23?
If this game had fighting it would be the best hockey game ever for any 16 bit system
