CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Batman (Michael Keaton) tries to dissuade Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) from getting revenge against Max Shreck (Christopher Walken).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this first sequel to 1989's Batman, the Caped Crusader (Michael Keaton) is up against the Penguin (Danny DeVito), the hideously deformed scion of a wealthy Gotham City family. The Penguin plots with evil businessman Max Schreck (Christopher Walken) to become mayor and then turn Gotham into a cathedral of crime. Upon overhearing these plans, Schreck's mousy secretary Selena Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer) is tossed from a high-rise window by her boss. Rescued by a covey of kittens, Selena transforms into the leather-clad Catwoman. In this guise, she teams with the Penguin and Schreck to divvy up their ill-gotten gains and help discredit Batman-but she also has her own scores to settle. Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens, Vincent Schiavelli and Jan Hooks play significant bits, while Pat Hingle and Michael Gough make returns as, respectively, Commissioner Gordon and Alfred the Butler.

Fun fact : Michelle's mask was sooo tight , so she barely heard any thing. This scene, when she rips off her mask was a blessing for actress.
Wouldn't it have worked if they poked two tiny holes around the ears of the mask so she could hear better?

I still love watching this movie today. I am especially captivated by Michelle's performance in this film though. When I was very little and first saw this movie, I was terrified of her scenes. Now I just see a certain elegance to her performance. She has amazing talent to be able to bring out insanity like that. She was the highlight of this film for me.
Oh yeah, both her and penguin intimidated me because you never know when they are going to go off. This is great movie

Me too. This is an amazing performance. She made me see Selina as a victim instead of a villain. When Shreck was shooting her I remember crying when I was little. It just pulls my heart strings.

Michelle Pfeiffer is so talented. She rocks every role she got through years: an antihero (Catwoman), a fairy queen (Titania), a wicked witch (Lamia) and a mean queen (Ingrith).

Michelle Pfeiffer's performance was, and still is, known as one of the best in cinema. Even today, more than 25 years later, it still holds up completely. The character of Selina Kyle/Catwoman was always so complex. She was good, and bad, and always torn as to what the right thing to do was. She complimented Batman so perfectly because like him, she too was an ever changing shade of gray. She would sometimes do the wrong thing, but you would always understand why. She was both a victim and a hero simultaneously, and Michelle Pfeiffer pulled off that difficult portrayal flawlessly.
If the Oscar's had been the way they are more inclined these days with slightly more open genre acceptance, she would have been nominated without a doubt.
Way more insane than Harley Quinn.

+Lori Byrd His identity was almost seen on the first film by the Joker's henchmen after the museum scene. As Bruce was knocked out, they were going to take the mask off but then got distracted once Vicki Vale took a flash picture with her camera.

I like how at 1:19 when Shreck shoots Bruce, Selina starts to rush to Bruce to make sure he's alright before turning back to deal with Shreck. Shows that despite turning down his offer and clawing at his face, she still cares for him
I admit it, I love Nolan's Batman. It's powerful, emotive and great.
But let's be honest, Burton really captured the mystery and darkness of Gotham City in his movies. It had such a dark and sad atmosphere that I've never seen in any Batman since Burton (I'm just talking of live action movies)

Commendable acting by Michelle Pfiefer here, my goodness!!! Her facial expressions, the way she delivered her lines, the emotions, this was hands down among the best scenes of the movie imo. She did a fantastic job showing the psychology of Selina here and why she became insane
Such an awesome ending. I still cry over Bruce being unable to save Selina from her descent into madness and when Penguin dies.
It makes me Sad that Catwoman never got to live with Batman just like a Princess in a Fairy Tale, she always wanted that. They could have been Married and could of had Children. Batman is the only one that understands Catwoman, no one else does.
In a comic that picks up after this movie they do live, because Celina still has 2 lives left before sacrificing herself, so she still had one life and lived with bruce.

At 1:40, i like to think that her face looks like a cat hissing at a person it absolutely can't stand, which is sort of the case in this scene. Combined with that, her claws, and her whip, which other than serving as her main weapon also serves as her "cat tail" in a way, it all just completes this version of Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

I love the way Michelle delivers this line, and also this shot of her removing her mask from behind. We already know what she looks like underneath, but it's still jarring to see her in full psycho make up, kinda like seeing people still dressed up the morning after a wild party.
That little exasperated sigh when she pulls her mask off is sort of her saying, "This guy is a dead man walking, so what's even the point of wearing this stupid thing?"
That or she wants her attempted murderer to see the monster he created

I never realized as a kid just how gothic this movie was, but even then I could appreciate the emotional emphasis of this scene. The music, the acting, the cinematography, all of it done superbly done. I wanna see a movie like this in the MCU.

You guys do know know that Batman Forever was NOT the first movie, or else Robin would have been in there. The second movie for Batman Forever was Batman And Robin. The first movie for this was just plain Batman.
I am just continulously blown away by how much she submerged herself into this role. There's a small mannerism that I never picked up on before here. Right after she says "You killed me, the Penguin killed me, Batman killed me..." she briefly pauses and you can see her eyes dart up to the right as if she's quickly doing the math to calculate how many lives she's lost and how many she has left before finishing the line with "that's three lives down. You got enough in there to finish me off?" Such a subtle and humanizing detail in an otherwise heightened performance.
A less thoughtful actor might have tried to be a strong female character who unflinchingly stares down Walken and spews the line out like a 90s action hero trying to be badass.
Absolutely. It's magnificently calibrated. That is a range of emotion to navigate through without it seeming false.

If you look carefully at 2:30 you can see, catwoman finishing off max shreck before running away, and it actually makes sense how max was found, in essence, she let him fall and left him for dead, and was able to somehow make it out alive. Also, never noticed but if you look carefully you can see the bullet holes when shes getting shot, crazy. Not sure why I never noticed these things. Great movie.
I love the look she has and the dry delivery of this line at "1:12" Michelle Pfeiffer should've been nominated for this role. Absolutely kills it!

When Max shot Batman and you see her quickly look at Batman and raise her hand to Max, I took that as her way of diverting his attention to her so that he wouldn’t shoot Batman again. And I like how she raised her hand, like silently telling him to stop. Am I the only one who noticed this?

Michelle Pfeiffeir deserved an Oscar for this performance. This is at least as impressive as Ledger's Joker, if not more. I'm so sad we're not recognizing her amazing work a lot more.

The greatness of this scene is that by the end there is no Batman nor Catwoman left. It's Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle with their masks off. Modern superhero films don't want to destroy their characters like that.

After seeing Antman and The Wasp last night, I went here to check how brilliant Miss Pfeiffer was in this role. I grew up adoring this character and memorizing her lines. Her one liners and quotes are just so legendary. Then I realized that both her and Michael Keaton are now part of MCU, the latter playing the vulture in the last Spiderman movie. But Michelle’s Catwoman will remain one of the most iconic comic character ever played in a movie. I even had a catwoman action figure of hers when I was a litlle boy!
The failed "relationship" of Bruce and Selina is one of the most tragic love stories I've ever seen.
It's still a better love ❤️ story than Twilight.

That's usually the villain's dialogue i.e. the "you and I are not so different after all" schtick - it's nice to see a hero character use it for once - shame it didn't work out for Batman this time.

I've noticed that too. They should've just left out the black paint through the first and second movies because I think the black paint around the eyes seemed really unnecessary.
Someone pointed out that Michael Keaton played Beetlejuice, a character with heavy black eye makeup. Maybe they tried it with makeup and he looked so much like Beetlejuice that they thought it ruined the scene's impact?
In my opinion, Michelle is the best Catwoman ever, so no one compares to what she did in the movie. Furthermore, what we saw Batman Returns, we watched also probably one of the most beautiful deaths in the history of cinema, which involved Selina Kyle & Max Schreck.

when I was a kid I used to watch at this movie ALL THE TIME. Now I'm re-watching it ( in original language, no doubling) and I realise how Michelle was TOTALLY AMAZING. Incredible acting really.

I think they might have tuned the fireworks to be in the right key as well.
Also, I think the strings are supposed to play up the sound of the fans on the capacitor spinning around and then braking, and/or the 'sound' (it's not really audible in real life) of electricity going down the wires... well I guess it is audible... a very loud static-y hum and buzz can be heard from high-tension lines and power transmission plants in real life, but what exactly causes that noise, I'm not sure. We need a real engineer to step in here and explain, although likely they'll just laugh.

It's weird how Michelle and Halle Berry have an almost-identical Catwoman story arc, including getting powers, it obviously Michelle has the most iconic, while Halle drew the short straw
