  • Where to place the drip screed to protect plywood and the mudsill.
Howdy subscribers, below are all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon’s website.

Stucco weep or drip screeds, same thing.
If your home was built before 1975, you wouldn’t have weep or drip screed as building codes did not require it until about 1975.
If your stucco goes below the mudsill and into the dirt, the worst that happens is with movement. The home’s stucco can often crack and sometimes buckle a bit.
A stucco weep or drip screed has many purposes.
One is to provide an expansion joint, and the other is to provide a stop and a guild to apply the proper depth or thickness of the stucco.
There are a few more reasons for a weep or drip screed, but these are the best reasons to install them.
I believe it’s a myth or false belief that bugs will enter if the stucco is taken to the ground.
BTW, when attaching the weep screeds onto the substrate or plywood surface, the lower part of the weep screed can touch the foundation below the mudsill.

I don't know if you're still monitoring this video but you're saying not to attach the drip screed on the foundation, below the mud sill, but in other videos you say if you have an old hose, like mine, with no drip screed at all, you can match the application of below-grade stucco. Wouldn't it be better to install a drip screed above grade and keep the stucco out of soil. I intend to install a stone facia is why I ask, and as you commented in this video, I don't want the stone stopping a foot above ground. I believe mud sill is flush with foundation, in my case?
    Thank you.
    Love your very helpful videos.

Howdy Jeff, indeed I still monitor these videos.

What about at mid level were a new water proof deck is installed(ALX system). The stucco was removed about 8" up from the deck. The deck guy install L metal and new jamb sills under the slider doors. The Stucco guy came in and installed new wire and paper and stucco with no weep screed. The deck guy says they should have and the Stucco guy says its not needed or Code. I read the code 4706e and its does'nt seem to address this mid level wall to deck situation. Gen. Con. in San Diego, Calif.

Where can you buy weep screed? And how much should it cost per linear foot? I have found some online. But the price is outrageous!
