I raised my son with this song in mind, no matter what I had going on, how tired I was nothing would stand between our relationship. I Always had time for him. Today he is in the Marines and calls me just about everyday just to say hello. What a great kid.

He gave me a hug and even though he had told me he had to work, we went home and he called in to work and we spent the weekend out camping. I love this song and how it changed my life with my dad.
Song is like Floyds Time. The older you get the message hits differently. As a parent this song is hard, but its also a warning and I made sure to enjoy my kids as much as I could. Still now they are older, I will forever miss those days.

I remember the first time I had to be away from my first daughter for more than one night (on a business trip for 8 days) when she was 2yo. My father drove me to the airport and I cried on that journey. It was the longest 8 days of my life to that point. The message in this song for me is "You reap what you sow", same as "You only get out of life what you put in". The same message applies to your kids - invest and stay vested and you'll reap the rewards.

I vowed I would never allow that to happen with my kids and I’d spend as much time as I could with them. My 2 sons are in their 20’s now, I pray that I got the balance right in their eyes.
