You should try Kite making material. It is lighter than Tyvek but just as durable. Just don't get it near anything hot as it will melt. I discovered this while using a small piece for my cooking station and set my hot kettle down on it and it almost melted the material. Using it under my hammock is great.

I do love my REI Flexlite Air chair with one caveat - the feet sink too easily. Solution? four free caps from small plastic containers. At 3" or so diameter, they keep the feet from sinking, weigh nothing and fit in the chair bag. I suppose in a pinch the inside of my hiking shoes would work also for the back feet.

I carry all these items except the tenacious tape- I'm old school and have always carried duck tape. Might have to grab some tenacious tape next. The rest of the items go with me on day hikes, car camping, and backpacking. Love my Buff so much, we ordered them for our Scout troop for rewards for selling popcorn! We also give away water filters and medical kits to the youth for prizes throughout the year. As a previous paramedic, I carry the same kit as you but I added two maxi pads (awesome bleeding control, and good for women to be prepared) and a tourniquet (but only take a tourniquet if you have medical training yo use it). And my Helinox is always the envy of everyone at camp! Great video and I love the energy!

@@innocentiuslacrim2290 - paired with some kind of tape, a bandage roll is the most important thing. With those two items, you can handle a variety of injuries.
I've got gloves in mine, in case I'm treating someone else, and my Sawyer Squeeze's backflush syringe can double as a wound irrigator. A lot of the commercially prepared first aid kits have superfluous stuff. A person who's thought through what they'd do in an emergency -- as a former medic, I'm confident you've done that a lot -- already knows how they can use other gear they're already carrying.

Once the diarrhea and vomiting stopped, I got the dry heaves for 30 minutes if I ingested anything more than a teasppon of water. When it finally subsided, I was so weak I could barely move and I had a 20 mile hike out to civilization. It was a memorable experience, and according to the er doc, was likely caused by animal feces in the water. You can drink out of the cleanest stream you've ever laid eyes on, but you have no idea what happened upstream.

FIRST AID KIT: I imagine most of us are building our own, rather than using the full contents of a ready-made kit. In that scenario, I recommend buying a smaller, empty first aid bag via Amazon for a few dollars, then filling it accordingly. That brand with the yellow bags tends to be pretty pricey (the one in the vid is $19) considering you're mostly just paying for a bag into which you will put items you already have.

Filters don't purify water. I trust distilling more and it's easy. Fire + Kettle + Stainless steel faucet hose = Long term DIY rainwater.

That essential water filter. I grew up dipping water out of any old stream and never got sick, but watching the number of visitors and dogs on the trail these days means I filter that water. I also carry a 1 oz S2S bucket to haul water to camp and filter there, and the bucket works great for washing up away from the stream so sunscreen, bug juice, and such doesn't pollute.

It s hard to choose a good inflatable pad or mattress...weight in gramms, not in pounds and a minimum of 3and a half inches. I m thinking about a small folding chair. I don t know if some can be used as toilet seat also......

I don't use a water filter because I hike in the Scottish highlands, the water is really fast flowing so there's no debris and I just use silver tablets to clear any bacteria from it. water filters aren't a necessity if you have similar water sources

‘Need’ is less offensive than ‘should’. And some just use iodine tablets or boil instead of filtering.

I’m guilty in not buying a water filter yet...😅 However, here in Norway, the water’s pretty clean, and I make sure to grab mountain water from small flowing streams. Probably safer to use a filter, but boiling it does a lot, though...

Boiling is best at killing the nasties but it uses a lot of fuel, is rarely convenient and you require a stove and pot to do it. Filtering is your best first defense because it removes most of the nasties and all the particles that the nasties can hide on. I don't know in Europe but filters are cheap now compared to what they were so there is really no excuse. Generally in the US that is all that is required unless there is human, livestock or rodent contamination that might elevate the risk of viruses which most filters can't eliminate. Then you might want to add a chemical treatment or boil in addition to filtering.

In a couple of months im going hiking with my girlfriend (Barnevandrestien) - i'm danish and my girlfriend is norwegian. She made fun of me when i said that it might be a good idea to bring a filter, even though i know the water is super nice. What do you think? Should i buy a filter and hide it in my pack? :P

      WiggersART
I’d say it doesn’t hurt, but I’d would personally only use it if necessary. I’m certain there’s a lot of clean sources there, and its nice to spend time in front of a small bonfire (and we’re taught how to find sources you could drink straight out of in our younger days at school - as long as you “lift” the water with your hands instead of sucking water straight from the stream). There should be completely clean sources, but it’s probably nice to have a filter if you two want to have a quick hydration inbetween, if your bottles are empty. Have fun!😃
