Unsubscribing.. and I hope your next water bottle leaks all in your backpack.. 🤣
Hopefully he has applejuice in his water bottle and everything gets all sticky! Take that!
It couldn't have happened to a more deserving person... Thanks for being such a good sport about it. It was funny.
😂
Dan - People only play jokes like that on folks they like hanging around with! Thank goodness you both have a great sense of humor and we can look forward to more fun times on the trail.
😂
The first multi-day backpacking trip I took with my wife involved a 9 mile trudge out on the last day. I was shocked by how heavy my pack still felt since it should've been 5 days worth of food lighter. I start unpacking everything that night and find a several somewhat large rocks in my pack that, and I quote, "looked kind of cool" that she "forgot to mention" to me.
Woman moment.
@@DARKRESCURED Honestly pickling up cool rocks is a dude thing
yes but fucking your boyfriend over like that is a woman thing. @@spuckuk7039
Hi ! my trick : I use dehydrated water... Just add water and drink ! very light way to never get thirsty ! ;) - jok
Great UL hack!!
Thank you for this!! Will do next time I hit the trails!
Freeze dried water is better. Cost a little more but definitely worth the weight savings!
@@ejones2219 This! Freeze drying your water gets a lot more moisture out of it than regular dehydrating. It also helps it taste more natural when you rehydrate it.
You can get so much water by making your own. Just bring 2 parts H2 to one part O2 in separate, cryogenically cooled dewars. Pro tip: Bring some extra O2, so you can use it to help start fires!
I love when y’all creators get together and poke fun at each other.
Y'ALLLL
I watch a lot of backpacking channels, including Dan’s. I just stumbled on your channel a couple of weeks ago and just want to say that I’m really enjoying your content. In a genre that seems like the same topics have been done to death you have come up with some pretty original videos that have entertained and informed me.
Thanks. This is a great comment. Repeating content is inevitable but I do try to do things not everyone is doing. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Ditto
Dan is so into the ultra light life that he even knows the exact weight of his BM's! Lol
Lol
lolz
😂🤣
Uh, not so much. Real ULers don't bring chairs and such.
@@architennis I think you missed the joke
I bet Dan Becker's tears taste like coffee. Both of you are great, I hope you guys do more of these.
OH MY GOD. For all the backpacking gear reviews I've seen Dan do, this is the FIRST TIME I've seen Dan actually backpacking! Seriously. I had just succumbed to the idea that he was a gear guy and not a trekking fellah. I mean his vids are good... I'm just astounded to see him outside. A Dan in the wild if you will.
Your sense of humor and dedication to the job are top notch. Thanks for the laughs Steve!
Love it! First time I dd that hike around August 2012, it was my very first solo backpack. Night one was spent at campsite SW3 on the ridge. I carried two gallons plus of water up with me because the rangers said I should have a gallon for every day. When I got to the top, it began to rain. Deer wandered in and drank from puddles and double rainbows formed near the overlook. I took two big containers of water and held them upside down and cried tears of joy knowing I would not be carrying them the next day. I danced on the ridge while watching that sunset and howled like a coyote, probably half insane from carrying so much dang water up there during the day. Day two, there was a creek running as I hiked through boot canyon and I realized I could filter water. Day 3, I hiked out and wrote down all of the lessons learned from my first solo trip. Now, being from Texas, I know not every season is the same and the rangers have a duty to tell people to be safe, but gosh almighty, I nearly killed myself trying to carry up 20lbs of water along with all my other first time backpacking gear. Now that I try to go UL, its good to see Dan carry a few of my tears from years long past!
This is a great comment. My first backpacking trip was to the Guadalupe Mountains in TX. Very similar If you have ever been there. No water just like big bend. I carried 60lbs in a pack that maxes out around 40. It hurt so bad. But yet here I am still doing it some 15 years later. I can feel your tears of joy dumping out that water.
I’ve backpacked big bend few times. I’ve never seen boot canyon flowing. So I’m jealous of that.
@@MyLifeOutdoors I did a 2 night trip there around Thanksgiving one year. I took a hammock, but only a 40 degree underquilt. 60 mph winds on top, rain and ice! All my water froze by morning but I had a blast! So many lessons learned on that one. lol. Guadalupe Mtns is one of the best backpacking places in TX!
@@LMay64 West Texas doesn’t mess around. Lol!
What a great video. The prank was amusing for sure, but the filming, the editing, and the music were top notch. Thanks!
You should drop the pretences and just challenge Dan Becker to a fist fight on top of the Grand Canyon
Both of you have been a huge help in my backpacking adventures. It was nice to see both of you being playful I enjoyed this video.
I lived in Texas for two years and drove 12 hours to Big Bend every chance I got. Solo backpacking the South Rim, off-trail to find the Mesa de Anguilla, and following wild burro trails down to the Rio Grande. I have never seen a National Park as beautiful, and I've been to most on the West Coast. Excellent video, especially the moments you took to show the spectacular South Rim views.
If you're ever looking to do a trip here in Hawaii, let me know. There are some epic trails and the volcano is going.
That was a fun video. Beautiful display of friendship and fun. The hike was also awesome. Thanks for sharing.
All outdoor creators should collab together .I know a lot of us would love to see that. I often wondered how, Dan Becker, The outdoorgearreview, Miranda in the wild would get along on a multi day hike. That would be interesting to watch. Miranda would probably annoy the hell the strength and honor guy. LOL!
I loved this video! It gave me a chance to see each of your personalities. You're both two of my favorite outdoor RUclipsrs. Keep up the great work guys!
I've been watching you guys as I've built my pack these last few months. My first trip was in Big Beng NP this last weekend (3 days), so very funny to see you guys release this video! Carried 7L of water as well, but well worth the views on the South Rim!
That’s awesome! Glad you got to see the south rim. I hope you get to go somewhere soon where you don’t have to carry so much water! You will love it that much more!
You two are the folks that I look to for advice on the outdoors
You know in the Australian army you are required to carry 7l per day of water in dry locations, resupply is based on every 3 days so it’s not uncommon for a grunt to have to Cary your entire pack weight of water alone. I know myself when I did a dry hike in the blue mountains a few years ago I had to carry 12l for three days. Carrying water is part of the deal for a lot of dry hike in aus
Personally I consume 4L without hiking! When he said 2L per day I started to get a headache!
ok.. most fun i've had in a long long time. really enjoyed this vid. thank you.
Man, the thing I kept thinking about watching this is how fun and cool it would be to go backpacking with the two of you. I've been a hiker for a while and car camp occasionally, but I'm just starting to explore getting into backpacking. Watching this, I just kept thinking about how much I'd learn and how fun it would be to spend time with you two that I've learned a lot from recently through your videos actually on trail together. What a fun collaboration this was to watch, and I loved the little practical joke. Good times, and thanks for all you do.
Love you both. Gorgeous sunset!
Dan seems like a really fun dude to go on a trip with. Funny prank 🤣
I love backpacking in Big Bend. Was out there in March 2021 when I was moving out of Texas. Wonderful country but its not for the unprepared. Great video!
I'm surprised to see Dan Becker actually hiking and camping. I thought his channel was about pretending to hike and camp while doing products placement in his backyard.
Lmao
Not if he can fly into an airport close to a national park & stay the night before & after at a hotel. I could hardly believe my ears when I heard him say in one of his videos: "I'm flying to a location to go camping." Does he live somewhere that camping & hiking availability is nonexistent? Why not make an adventure of it & drive there if it's worth it? Far less carbon footprint & more memories driving than flying.
I've hiked & camped all over North America from Canada to Mexico west of the Mississippi & never once flown to my outdoor destination. I guess I'm just old & don't get it. Isn't it supposed to be about the journey & not the destination?
I'll skip this one. All those Smart water bottles. Really? Are they sponsored by Smart water? Get a fecking water bag or proper container. Must all these uber light weight hikers have to insist upon Smart water? Jaysus! They're carrying enough plastic to contaminate the western portion of the Pacific Ocean. Not to mention the stupid cost over tap water. Is common tap water from home not in vogue these days?
@@Imightberiding As I understand it, they use smart water bottles and refill them with tap water or filtered water. Apparently these bottles are lighter than nalgene or similar bottles.
@@Ihwaz13 lighter than a nalgene and a couple of filters fit right on the smart water bottle
@@Imightberiding I hate the hippy-dippy-ness and yuppie feel a pretentious brand like smart water carries; but truth lies where the truth lies. The bottles have great ergonomics. The main body of the bottle holds it integrity despite being fairly thin walled. They also maintain flexibility unlike hard plastics like nalgene. Finally I like the cap. It has good grip size and has dense plastic to prevent flimsiness at the point of action! The bottles can be reused but there still exists the looming issue of plastic leaching into the water as well as the waste factor in the bottle itself. I've heard hard plastic bottles carry the same footprint as 1000 disposables. Im not sure if this is true but I simply cant find a better alternative when you're looking to carry 4+ liters with relative freedom
What a sunset!! Going camping tonight!!! deep woods.... off grid!!! can't wait!!! Good stuff guys!!
Love the prankster moves and fun twinkly music! 😅🎶
Loved it you got Dan❣️
That alone earned my subscription ❣️
That was just pure comedy. XD You have my subscription for this video.
Some friendly shenanigans amongst friends! LOVE it!
Dan took it well..thanx guys. enjoyed this video..
An awesome trip and post. I wish I could have come along. A smashing success gentlemen
Best wishes 💧
I chuckled my arse off at this gold!
That was so nice of Dan to "help" you out!
I backpacked Big Bend National Park last October and you’re absolutely correct. No water in the Chisos Mountains with the exception of Cattail Falls.
I love BBNP. I’ve been there many times. During a Field Biology field trip to the park, our class hiked to Santa Elena Canyon. During our break at the end of the canyon, I snuck a couple flat rocks into the bottom of my professor’s backpack! The whole class was in on it and thought it was hilarious. Throughout the day, we actually forgot about the rocks. That night, we heard him yelling from his tent after he found the rocks. We had another good laugh about it. Fortunately, he was a really good sport and admitted that we got him.
Funny video and beautiful at the same time. Big Bend is really such an incredible place. 🙂👍🏽
It really is. Would be even better if there was some water to filter. But I’ll take what I can get. Thanks for watching
Big Dan follower, so this is great.
This video was pretty hilarious too.
Haha. Dan didn't look too happy when you told him... Has he spoken to you since or are you now his arch nemesis?!? 😜🤣🤣
Decided to subscribe because you definitely worthy, you made Dan Becker carry your water I’m sorry the bottle of tears of ultra light backpackers. Very clever Sir, freaking hilarious.
Love the video!! You guys are great together ;)
The music for the prank was spot on! LOL!
What a great community !
I have been on the fence between getting the x-mid 1 and the alto 1 person. Wondering for a more north woods climate and based on durability which one would you choose ?? Did the head staked corners come loose on the alto causing the failure?
Ah bringing all your water with you... reminds me of backpacking in Arizona haha.
That snapped because of this fantastic karma filled video!
Keep em coming 🤣
It's hilarious how Dan discovering the extra bottle of water is the most replayed part of the entire video
I love every part of this! Nice to play pranks like that. Hopefully you snuck a few rocks into his pack too😂
Great video thanks for the laughs 😃 😀 😄
Well done 👍!!!
you had me giggling the whole time!
Great collaboration
Doesn't matter if its Dan, Justin or whoever, I really enjoy watching the interaction between you guys.
The sneaky music is an excellent choice. That’s a good, but also innocent prank!
This was amazing.
Love it.
I just subscribed. Found Dan channel couple weeks ago and lead me to this channel.
Bro you are killing it with the big RUclipsrs! Hiking with Justin Outdoors and Dan Becker...you've hit the big time. Lol. And I really want to hate Dan for some reason but I don't. Everytime he posts I'm like, "oh here's this joker again" as I watch the whole damn video. Lol. I really like him and his content.
I feel the same. He’s full of dad jokes. That’s probably why.
hey Steve (and the other guys) - I have a question for you (BTW, I love the camaraderie between you but now we know why he said he didn't trust you LOL)... Since it was obviously really hot where you were, would placing a mylar sheet face-up into the sun on top of your tents help keep it cooler inside your tents while the sun is out?
Flippin' hilarious 😂
That was funny...😀 Reminded me of a time I took some of my HS students out on a hike and they sneaked rocks in my pack - they made sure that they were all there when I unpacked my pack that night...
You guys got some great footage in Big Bend
Fun video man thanks for sharing! What did I put in here that's so heavy 😂
Man that's crazy with that kind of water carry. Up here in the Canadian Rockies I've actually stopped carrying water all together. It's so abundant I usually can just drink as I go and camel along. That would kill me carrying that much water knowing that it could have been beer.... ;)
Great colab, Steven!! Loved this fun and silly video..I like the shape of your hat brim, who makes this hat?
this is great
Adding KG at the bottom really make a difference when I watch these videos and I super appricate it even though its a small thing.
Sometimes I forget. But I’m happy to include when I think to. Thanks for watching
I've had this problem, I'm wondering if there's a way to distribute the way it across your body a little better and on your back maybe on your belt or on your head, okay that's too much. But I know that putting a couple bottles on my straps it's helpful what do you think?
Fun video! I did something similar when I hit a 6-pound cantaloupe in my brother-in-law's pack. Best tasting melon I ever ate on the trail (fortunately, he agreed).
That was an epic video :) Thanks for the entertainment :)
love this one, its fun!
The tent pole came snapping like "karma bit**!"
You know what. I’m don’t think it was the wind. I think it was Dan!
It's probably already buried in the comments, but I didn't find it; what trail were you on? It looks awesome.
That was hilarious and wholesome
I’m curious what state you live in? You mentioned Big Bend is in your backyard. I’m in Austin.
I've found almost nothing on the Prospector 50. I am looking at this pack for outdoors photography - as I need a good backpack for hiking with backpanel access. Can you speak to the performance at all?
?
Good times!
Water even smart water weight can be reduced by putting all but one bottle in one water soft water container. Evaporation stuff can be taken with you ,less than one pound. But you have to stay in one area long enough.
I like how the deer looked up like "What's up, bro?" then went back to eating.
The Sienna hues are amazing, even haunting/scary.
Thank you. some of my tears were in that bottle.
🤣 2 of my favorite YT backpackers
You guys crack me up!
The gods must be punishing your tent (for the prank you pulled😂)❤
Well done.
Possibly my favorite backpacking RUclips video ever.
@Gone Awry hahaha. Maybe it's because he wasn't trying to tell me about gear or things I'm doing wrong, but just enjoying the back country and brought us along. That's what it's all about, right?
Well played 😆
I had a tent break in a windstorm at the Badlands National Park. It was a rare and significant storm. Luckily we were at a public campground and could take shelter in my vehicle. As we left the park we rescued some backpackers who had made their way to the road. Now I have a Hillenburg tent, which I have a good deal of faith in. However, it's massive. Question: How strong are these backpacking tents you guys carry? They dont look like much, and that a decent thunderstorm might do significant damage. Yet, I see thru hikers using them all the time. So I'm unsure what direction I'm comfortable with. Thoughts?
So this tent I was using has near vertical walls (to give more headroom) but it catches wind like a sail. I should have guyed it out(I.e. run rope to stages) better but wasn’t expecting the wind we had. It came unexpected in the middle of the night. Other backpacking tents I use have slopping walls that allow wind to blow up and over. They can take much more than it seems. And that’s part of the reason why they cost so much. Lightweight strong material with good design. Dan and Emmett (his camera man) both had tents that shed wind better than this one. They did fine just a few steps from me.
I appreciate your response! Love your channel!
I carried four to five gallons to the top of chisos. I had two of the large msr bladders. Around boot canyon I had to give one to my hiking partner.
In splitboarding we call it the beer caddy. Get to the top of the peak and you ask your buddy for the beers you stashed in their bag
He’ll just think he’s being a nice guy! 😂😂😂
Nice guy fabrication! Love it!
I like this episode of the office.
lol awesome video about trolling your boy on a hike
That tent spot looks like a blast crater! 😅
I’d heart this but the trauma is too fresh. 🤣
Now THAT was good! Funny! It was good to see the interaction between you two, and interesting to see some of the workings that go on behind the finished vid. Thanks! :)
I have the Xmid 1p and 2p, I know they can withstand 80km/hour winds without me even properly guying it out and using the useless shepherd hook stakes they came with, it was a very hairy night though! My cheap Naturehike Mongar that I lent to my friend on the same trip stood firm as well. I was thinking of getting the STS one as well, but this video decided it for me.
I emailed them and they claim it needs to be fully guyed out to withstand winds that strong. I don’t ever guy out my tents but did after this one broke. With two guylines on the upwind side it lasted the rest of the storm with no problems. Dan’s x-mid had no problems and Emmett’s Nimbus had no problems. But neither of those have the headroom of the S2S so take it for what it’s worth.
Dang, I've been looking at that tent. Between reports of leaking vent and this, it looks I'll go in a different direction.
I saw one dude carrying a 5 gallon jug when I camped in the East Rim. Big Bend is brutal.
Did you guys do the OML? It's one of my favorite hikes. Hope you cached at Homer Wilson! Makes things a lot easier.
No the OML is for REAL backpackers! 😉
