I’ve had 3 first gen exploders. 10 years on the Sport, 13 years on the XLT, now 4 on the Limited. I shoved snow in the first 2. Very versatile & capable trucksters
You have to soak the hydrolifters in oil for a few days and pre-prime the oil system before rotating these motors, make sure to fill your oil filter before you put it in, average 4.0 ohv
Just saw it at the Off-Road Expo, I loved it! I was thinking about using SXS tyres years ago on a Geo Tracker build 33's but the client got a sweet deal on some 31's Maybe I'll put some on my 91 Sidekick.
Tons of 1st gen explorer prerunners and dune builds. Serious explorations does an annual moab meet that includes rangers and broncos. Typically 2 weeks after easter jeep safari
I have nearly the identical Explorer but built more for exploring slow speed narrow trails than pre-running. I've only found one skinny DOT rated 35" tire and that is what I run. It's the Kanati Mud Hog in 35x10.50R15. Great overall tire for off road, very round and smooth riding but it definitely has a high pitch zing noise at speed on the street.
@@amorton94 Apparently the SxS guys have all the good tall skinny tires. System 3 Off Road has a 37x10x15 tire model called the RC500 with a load rating of nearly 2000 lbs per tire. I'm really tempted to try this out for my Explorer.
@@georgecarousos6735 With all these people putting big ole tires on their daily drivers, you think someone would bring a DOT tall skinny tire to market.
I have a 94 that I'm looking to upgrade with a 10 inch coilover and drop in a 98 Ex 5.0 V8. It's got the 2000's 6" Skyjacker that I wanna go away from... but it does well for fire roads. But good build. HELL YEAH
This thing is sick. There's a build here locally for like $8k that has been tempting me. I want a Sport Trac though. A TTB swap on an 03-05 Sport Trac would be sick.
i have a 04 with the 4.6 4wd. i want to do 4wd delete and put some kings on it but it has to be all custom. no aftermarket support for 2002-2006 unfortunately.
The 4.0l ohv motor is a tank ! I've gotten 350k miles out of one , the sohc motor made better power but was odorous for timing chain rattle! But this Exploder needs a coyote swap ?
I bought a 93 explorer It’s been my daily the last 2 months i want to lift it because sometimes I see some sag. My roof is rusty Af so I want to throw a shell on top and cut the roof out for a explorer camper
My dad had one one those for a work truck back in high school me my buddys decided to jump it and when we landed it it split in half only the cab because it was so rusted good O times
The rising leverage ratio with leaf springs is relative to the shock angle. I’m pulling 18” in the rear on my 95 F150 with Gen 1 raptor shocks and a custom shock mount
@@killersodas7695 you’d want to have more angle in the shock relative to the path of the axle. The more parallel the shock is to the axle path the lower the leverage ratio will be and will basically match the shock stroke to the wheel travel. The more angle the shock has the more wheel travel you can get but only up to a certain point until the leverage ratio overcomes the dampening and won’t resist the bump force
Those coilovers would be about 2500 and the rears are as cheap as you can find stock take offs for. But his shop orders a lot of kings and he said he ordered them directly from Brett King the owner so there was most likely a hefty discount.
My initial thought was 🤔 Goal is to keep it under 10k but has over 2k invested into the lights alone? The laughed out loud when he said they were Beijing Designs 🤪!
Dawg terra crew dudes i bought my explorer with the mid travel kit built suspension, fox 2.0 smooth body shocks built engine ford 4.0 ported heads bigger cam four 900 bucks 10 grand never seen it in my life. I built this truck, put love, blood sweat and tears drove it with no sway bars without rebuilding shocks all the way to Colorado, from California, from Colorado to Washington, state 10 Gran. Don't even have that in it and never had that in my bank account i toot my own horn toot toot
So misleading, he didnt actually pay for anything. This is why people think this hobby is only for rich people. Wanna do a cheap build? Step one get everything for free.
There no way he did this for last than 10K either he’s full of it or he got those parts for free from friends or something people from the west side always act like they can build things for cheap they most be on drugs or something
Nah this is definelty do able for 10k if you have the fabrication skills and knowledge, take solo MotorSports stage 4 explorer kit for example, cost $8,150 and half the major work the guys at Izzy Fab had to do is already done (Radius arms, and shock tower/engine cage) plus comes with traditional 2.5 bypasses in the rear... Only major thing at least I can tell that this build has over that solo kit is the IBP front coilovers... if your smart and can make deals and buy second hand, builds like this are absolutely doable in the 10k range.
$10k build budget, but I spot $30k in parts in first 30 seconds. LOL, that's how buddies take care of each other!
10k is laughable, sick ass build though. Would be sick to get real pricing for us normal people 👍
I just picked up a rust free crispy clean 93 with only 95k, cant wait to get started on it

I have a 93 that I bought from my dad, currently doing the ol' power steering pump replacement. I'll
Love this thing
Bought a 93 explorer years ago when i seen what michael cox did with his on a hoonigan build .This one is cool as hell also.
One minute in and can already tell you there is no way to build that under 10k🤬🙃🧐🤯🤨🤨
It is when all your friends "hook you up"
My biggest fear is that if I die, my wife will sell my things to what I told her they cost me
yeah about 10k in fab as is.
$10k if you have all the parts laying around and you’re a master fabricator.
Shocks alone 5k.
I bought a 94 exlporer in 95 and drove it for a decade. best memories ever in that thing.
A link for the cooks reservoir would be nice.
Ya where do ya find those things
That explorer would look awesome in my driveway next to my white 1994 Bronco. Both have tinted windows, stock rims and mild lift.too cool.
Best episode yet!
James thanks for another great video.
we definitely need to see this unit rip
So rad. A realistic build 🎉
I need that shock package bad for my familyrunner. Good job Izzy she's clean
Now let’s get a video of that sleeper Chevy 🤘🏻
Those SxS tires are slept on.
Nice work Izzy 👊
Not too many adults have heroes, but I do. Very Nice keep up the great work James your definitely one of my heroes.🙏✌️
Great vid. Nice to see what can be accomplished with limited funds.
I love a nasty tt truck or 6100 truck walk around but these buget builds get the juices FLOWIN
Motivation for my 94 xlt 🔥

Sickest daily!!!!
I had a teal 92 4door with a 4.0 and 5spd when I was a kid. Miss it and occasionally look online for another but I rarely see 5spd exploders.
I had the exactly the same but 2 door. green in color
Had the 99 explorer manual 4x4 when I lived in australia. right hand drive. was tits.
I’d buy one of there Silverado kits if they offered it unwelded but they don’t :/
Man, he is really working on a tight budget.
I got a 92 2 door on eBay spacers and shackles and it rips Montana trails and I still daily drive it

Can the shocks be 12 inch stoke smoothies or bypass necessary> ? curious

Hiding the 😂been there done that, great minds think alike
How much travel does it have with that front end setup???

I’d name it the Ford Rollover.
Confused how he is getting 17in of travel at the rear stock first gen raptors with those shocks get 12in can someone explain my brain small

Yeah the cook craft website says that rear kit only pulls 13.5" with raptor shocks
👍

What I want to know is here is my question are you ready! How much are the shocks alone? Then how are you building this thing for under 10k?!?

20-25k would probably be closer
The great white knight…. 🤷🏻♂️. Love the fam vibes too…
The shocks are 10 k
10k in fab and 5k in parts
Now THIS is something that Donut should have done instead of dropping 50k+ on a $500 Ranger to do the same thing. Major props, guys! 👍
donuts building a race truck this expo is a family fun car izzys prerunner probably cost 100k+
More like how to “buy an overpriced exploder”… Get real lol
How's the i'm not gay, but twenty dollars is twenty dollars crew. ?
10k 😂 😂😂😂🎉
