- What would happen if Vesuvius Volcano erupted today? It’s erupted many times in the past. In fact, that's how it got its shape. It's made of multiple layers of hardened lava, pumice, and ash. Vesuvius last erupted in 1944. But a major blast happened there nearly 2,000 years ago. It buried the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum and decimated the surrounding areas.
The tragic eruption have left a deep mark in modern history. Mount Vesuvius is regarded as one of the deadliest volcanos in the human history. But today, 3 million people live less than 20 milesfrom the volcano, and 600,000 live in the danger zone. Large eruptions happen every few thousand years, usually after long periods of calm. And the trouble is, Vesuvius is long overdue for its next one...

Scientifically that's kind of miss-said. Many things affect there. Mainly it's about events that haven't followed their previously known pattern.
Years are like minutes for natural disaster. If a disaster is to happen in 2030 but it happens in 2100, then it's just a few minutes delay for the nature.

2020 just got crazier!!!
The really dangerous volcano in this area is Campii Flagrei - the Fields of Fire. It is a significantly larger (though not as tall by any means) caldera and there are approximately 1,000,000 people who live inside it. It is currently heating up and swelling.
Vesuvius had had major eruptions as recently as 1944, but that eruption is nowhere near as destructive as if the Campi ere to erupt.

What killed most people in Pompeii was the pyroclastic ash flow as it raced down the mountain just before the eruption. I didn’t hear much mention of this, however.

I read in a Divers Magazine 47 years ago when I lived in Northern Italy I have family from Sicily in that magazine it said that storage of nuclear waste in Old salt mines was causing the Earth's core to heat up the glaciers would melt and the oceans would be 14 ft higher there is no climate change this is all being caused because of nuclear waste being stored in Old salt mines.
I learn a lot from this channel.

The pyroclastic flows are what would be wiping everything else..not a lava flow
This type of volcano doesn't have long range lava flows..

4 active volcanoes here in the philippines are under radar too
Its nice and civilised of your theoretical eruption to wait until danger zones to be evacuated before burying them in molten Lava or Ash, but usually major eruptions happen much faster and catch the local populations off guard . Yes we have some better technology to assist but they never have made accurate predictions on when what will happen for a new eruption.

What would happen if a volcano erupted today? Remember when Mount Saint Helen's went up? The temperature went down temporarily. The ash spread East from the summit. This happened when I was a boy. The ash came down. You could see it in the highway. It looked like snow blowing around, but it was not winter time.
