One of the best ways I've found to describe Ranma 1/2 is that Ranma wants to be a Shonen protagonist, but he's ended up in a different genre, and he _keeps_ running into people who also think they're the protagonist.
I used to laugh like big belly laughs when reading the Ranma 1/2 manga 20 years ago, so glad to see new people getting to enjoy all the laughs this story has :D

Still he and Akane are kinda set up to get married but they are both actually trying to see it through, but the wedding is literally crashed by a hundred people.

Enjoyed your reaction. This is a very good show with an excellent first season, perfect action/comedy/romance. Ranma 1/2 was one of the very first anime TV series to get an English subtitled translation and accurate dub (as opposed to one where all the characters got renamed and the plots redone for American audiences), a testament to the quality of the material.
The show strenght is the characters. Its a show with MANY good characters, so it's really "on" when the all cast joined. You are now for a good time in the "new character arrives arcs" which are good but not as good as the arcs when the whole band is around Cant wait for Shampoo, Ryoga and Happosai !
In the og there were other patients (on the old side) at the doctor's, when they heard kasumi was coming they fled... They knew their lives were in danger 😂
And that was filler... I honestly don't know how to feel about the super fast pace of the remake. I love it, but I also miss how some of the romantic moments don't have the extra few seconds to linger. So far the first 3 episodes of the remake has covered 6 or 7 of the original anime

Don't try to call him Tatewaki. No idea why the subs did that as his last name is Kuno and that is how Japanese usually call each other is by their last name. Also no idea why the subs use Kung Fu instead of Kenpo. Rumiko Takashi is a great Mangaka and one thing to note about her works is the amount of characters she has and how all the side characters are so well developed. You haven't seen anything yet and yes this can and does get better and better.
The first season of the original anime is one of my favorite first seasons of any show. The remake here seems like both versions will be standing side-by-side in my mind.

Around c. 1990 (after Robotech, and before Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, Dragonball, Inu Yasha and Gundam Wing) the two hot properties in American anime were Ranma 1/2 and the Bubblegum Crisis cyberpunk OAV series. (Gundam also had its fans, but it took a long time for an official subbed and dubbed release to come out). (You should check out Bubblegum Crisis OAV series (NOT the inferior TV remake) some time - the demise of the original TV series means a remake is really unlikely, but the show is definitely worth watching (it was a main inspiration of the Cyberpunk 2020 rpg which inspired the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, which inspired the cyberpunk 2077 anime)

Honestly, I don't think it's trash that Kuno likes both of them at once. If anything it's actually respectable that he's upfront about it, rather than trying to go after both without the other knowing. The trash part is him not taking no for an answer.

@@sora2541 That style of anime adaptation has long since gone by the wayside, with pretty much the sole exceptions of One Piece and _maybe_ Detective Conan. It also no longer has a practical purpose, with the source material having ended almost 30 years ago. I think it was the success of FMA: Brotherhood that made it clear viewers’ appetite for that sort of adaptation had run out, especially coming a couple years after Naruto had ended Filler Hell. I’m sure anime staff doesn’t have an appetite for it either - do the math sometime on how much lead time the DBZ anime had on the manga during the Frieza battle. The economics aren’t there for a 100-episode-plus round-the-calendar series either, certainly not with how much the industry has struggled with scheduling in recent years. It’s just not how anime gets made anymore, and certainly not how it gets remade.
I've seen the whole series. Seen the first 2 seasons twice... And I like this remake. Even though it's practically a shot-for-shot remake... the upgraded animation, 16:9 ratio, very nice English dubs make this a worthwhile watch for me. Kudos to Netflix for not making this woke... *yet.* Another long series from the same writer, Urusei Yatsura, had a remake come out last year. I didn't watch it after I heard they changed the jokes and made them *worse.* Ranma is a romcom with fights. Urusei Yatsura is a romcom with slapstick comedy. Yet another long series from the same writer, Maison Ikkoku, would be a lot of fun as a remake. It's a straight RomCom with no fantasy elements and it's an absolute delight.
You guys mentioned this was written by a woman... but its crazy how Rumiko Takahashi cannot write any story without perverted guys harassing woman. After Happosai enters the story I just can't.

there is really no overarching plot. it's just mostly slice of life with some action/fighting arcs. probably the best slice of life though.

@@IZEASGT I see. Never read the first few dozen chapters of Ranma so I didn't know. Still tho, I like the added content in the original, makes thing feel more natural, I wish they take their time with it with the remake like they did with the original
@@sora2541 That style of anime adaptation has long since gone by the wayside, with pretty much the sole exceptions of One Piece and _maybe_ Detective Conan. It also no longer has a practical purpose, with the source material having ended almost 30 years ago.
I think it was the success of FMA: Brotherhood that made it clear viewers’ appetite for that sort of adaptation had run out, especially coming a couple years after Naruto had ended Filler Hell. I’m sure anime staff doesn’t have an appetite for it either - do the math sometime on how much lead time the DBZ anime had on the manga during the Frieza battle. The economics aren’t there for a 100-episode-plus round-the-calendar series either, certainly not with how much the industry has struggled with scheduling in recent years.
It’s just not how anime gets made anymore, and certainly not how it gets remade.

I've seen the whole series. Seen the first 2 seasons twice... And I like this remake. Even though it's practically a shot-for-shot remake... the upgraded animation, 16:9 ratio, very nice English dubs make this a worthwhile watch for me.
Kudos to Netflix for not making this woke... *yet.*
Another long series from the same writer, Urusei Yatsura, had a remake come out last year. I didn't watch it after I heard they changed the jokes and made them *worse.*
Ranma is a romcom with fights. Urusei Yatsura is a romcom with slapstick comedy.
Yet another long series from the same writer, Maison Ikkoku, would be a lot of fun as a remake. It's a straight RomCom with no fantasy elements and it's an absolute delight.
If you think is funny now wait to see the rest of the cast, Ryoga, Shampoo, Mousse, Happosai, etc.
You guys mentioned this was written by a woman... but its crazy how Rumiko Takahashi cannot write any story without perverted guys harassing woman. After Happosai enters the story I just can't.
You guys should watch OG first but it's too late for now 😅
