I was looking for this sensors off mode after I factory reset my phone.
And I got as far as the developer options.
Then I just couldnt remember how to do it.
Then I found your youtube. Very easy to follow. Thankyou so much.

Thank you for speaking slowly and loudly and with a clear explanation. Other videos I have seen on this subject have not been good.
When the sensors are OFF, it also disables the Auto Rotate feature, which is something that I like to have ON.

Android has been updated to version 12. After the update the widget disappeared, no longer giving me access to camera and microphone shutoff option. Also noticed the build option is no longer available. Before the update It felt good knowing big brother wasn't over my shoulder! None the less I have enjoyed your tutorial and have had peace of mind knowing my mic and camera were off for the time I had privacy. Hope you can help🙏 Thank you in advance!

I'm on version 12. You go to the developer settings and then scroll until you find the "Quick settings developer tiles" option. It is somewhat close to the top so you don't have to go far. Click it and the sensors off should be in there.

This is a great video, very clear. When I found I could not use my camera I tried to reverse the Sensors Off Icon I had created but it doesn't do anything. I went back into settings and tried to backtrack but found my phone name had changed somehow to my previous phone and I can't figure out how to undo this now. Any ideas? I'd appreciate them. I didn't want my mic on all the time or able to be put on but I need my camera. Thanks for such a great vid!

This is generally a nice feature, but government-level hackers can still bypass these software settings and activate your cameras/mics etc. without your awareness, since it's all software-driven items and settings we're talking about. The only true way to 100% disable your sensors is to physically install a micro switch that severs the electrical lines to the cams/mics. This was (and still is) the true story of the Edward Snowden case - watch the movie to understand. Unfortunately, the only, safest workaround (which of course voids your device's warranty) is to crack the thing open and install micro switches to physically disable any built-in devices that allow people to spy on you. That, or tape over your cameras. Such a shame this type of violation of privacy we live in. BTW don't try this unless you're an electrical engineer, not only will you void your warranty but most likely ruin your phone.

Thanks for the info. My AT&T Vista phone has the sensors tile option, but only on/off for all sensors (whereas my Pixel 7 has independent on/off for each sensor as a submenu of the tile!). Strangely, the only way I could get it to work on the AT&T Vista phone was to turn sensors off, then plug in the external USB microphone, and then turn sensors back on. This resulted in the internal microphones still being off, and the external microphone being on. Which is what I needed, but a bizarre sequence. Unplugging the external microphone restore service to the internal microphones, requiring the above sequence to be repeated to get back to the state I need.

This is really great! I'm hoping that Google and Samsung, others, can't override this? So far all tests show the sensors not working, but how can I tell if this is just for apps, or is it dead to Samsung and Google as well?
I'm so tired of having my conversations monitored and monetized. Last week, several very unique things I just talked about showed up as Google ads. It used to be rare, now their gloves are off and they don't even care if you know they're doing it.
I can't do much about typing, but at least I can choose what I type and search for.

I'm not sure exactly how strict is when it comes to Google and the features offered in Developer Options. I was shocked to see this so easily accessible and something that so many apps/oems would dislike.
I don't think we'll see google or Samsung 'override' the toggle, though. if anything, I could see the toggle being removed entirely (by samsung in your case). but they won't trick you into thinking sensors are disabled and access them anyway

When device sensor tile is on you're unable to use your Camera or Microphone on Google so all you need to do is tap the icon on your quick settings menu off and switch it back on when required.

I have the X3 in the other room actually, it was just delivered this week. Going to let it sit and quarantine for a bit before opening it up.

    • @ExplainingAndroid
      @ExplainingAndroid  3 года назад +1

I can confirm it is not on the POCO M3 either. After looking through the developer pages, Google says. . . "If you don't want to support Sensors off on your devices, remove the service tag from packages/apps/Settings/AndroidManifest.xml. If you remove the service tag, the Sensors off tile won't be available to enable from the developer quick settings tiles page."
So I'm guessing Xiaomi has disabled this toggle from being displayed. However, there has to be another way to enable it. Maybe via adb? maybe via editing that xml file with root?
I'll see if I can trigger this using other methods
