Being a Nigerian determines everything dear. As a woman married to a Nigerian man they take so much pride in academics. Not long ago I heard a story of a Nigerian child born in the UK, delayed speech, diagnosed with autism. Parents took him to Nigeria and he started talking and more expressive. The absence of the child being in school (in the UK you can get up to 5 years for removing your child during school term) forced to cut short their holiday. Fathers relative adviced him to give the child a placebo pill and the child was still talking. So when the father collected enough evidence, took it to the doctors proof the child was not autistic. They did tests on the child and found out no drugs were in his system. The father is now facing charges that go against pharmaceutical practices.
They tell melanated people, especially single mothers, their child has ‘behavioural problems’ because they know doc gonna diagnosed the child with an illness that gives THEM a huuuge pay check 💰💰💰

I teach middle school reading and writing in Chicago Public Schools. I spend a great deal of time convincing the parents of my black male students, to not push them into special education evaluations. Rather, I try to help parents push their children to read 30-40 minutes daily, and maintain a daily journal. The greatest deficits that I have seen, are not learning disabilities, but the lack adequate learning environments, in the home.

I respect Dr Umar and I work for the same District but I've never seen pamphlets encouraging teachers to test for Spec Ed. This thing called education happens as a result of the partnership that exist between students, parents, teachers and the "school" . We exist in a system that hold certain partners accountable while others are allowed to not show up, not respond, and not be accountable at all. Dr Umar I need you to not only educate about Spec Ed meeting protocol but partnering for the greater good of the entire school. We as a community are failing our schools not JUST "the school". Dr Umar come out to report card pick up, come out for the attempt at PTA, come out for grade level parent nights, come out to meetings where students have misbehaved and see what you get. One thing I find hard about agreeing with all that Dr.Uhmar’s teaches is usually the explanations of his points. More time than not, he actually confronts and tries to tackle issues within the community that face many Americans. When he talks it usually goes like this - “we need to make the black family stronger and more united again because the white man destroyed it”
It’s starts off strong undoubtedly - instability within the family and fatherlessness are very important issues that face families, especially black families. But to simply just say “because white people” or “white man” automatically counts out the possibility to mention all other factors at play. And he does this with so many issues which could be better explained with social-economic background, geography, family, religion, culture, attitudes towards education etc. What he does permanently entraps ethnic minorities to believe that their success is predetermined by the colour of their skin, it places them into a victim hood mentality. His answers are so low resolution and simplified. And the way he manipulates data to explain stories is appalling.
