- Devizes Film Festival - Winning Entry
Short video to document the hand crafting of a Concertina by Anthony P James. Recorded over two days at his workshop.
For the techie filmmaker - I recorded primarily using a Lumix GH4, with addition shots on a Lumix GH3 and GoPro Hero4.
We hope you enjoy the video, which gives a lovely insight into the hand crafted processes in making a Concertina.
The intimate sounds of the making process are as captivating as the visual moments in the process.
This short film I made was the Winning entry in the Devizes Film Festival 2015, for which I am greatly thankful to those who voted for it. I am pleased with this short film and I hope you enjoy it too.
Congratulations!
These instruments are so very pretty. I have a cheaper concertina (under $300) and it's painted in a dazzling shiny green, but as flashy as it is, nothing could be more pleasant-looking than a traditional concertina with metal plating. Absolutely beautiful.
Actually really enjoy how there's no talking, really peaceful
Glad that you appreciated that.
sorry to be so off topic but does someone know a method to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Roland Dustin Instablaster ;)
@Wayne Bruno I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Wayne Bruno It worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
A comment from a sculptor friend of mine: "Your film is brilliant.. fascinating to see the process and you’ve been very clever to edit it in a way that reduces such a time consuming art into a few minutes without it feeling in any away rushed. ". Thanks
wonderful to see this being made from strat to finish. As an English Concertina player ....I'd love to see one of that buggers being made.
400th like :-) and well worth it! An amazing video and beautiful craftsmanship. I only wish working on concertinas was as easy as this video makes out!
Hi sir can you please make a video on how to tune Concertina
Whats the music at the end?
Just plain old good work Brother. The film and it's topic. Really well done. Thank you. -Bob from Philadelphia
I am amazed! Those are some high quality clips
Exquisite work. Thanks for sharing your mastery.
Great shot film! Mad asmr vibes
Man, I love this. I just bought a cheap concertina. I really it this is awesome.
Damn, kinda sad I'm done with the video. Wanted to see more. Either way, really good stuff. just ordered my concertina and it is on it's way. Extremely excited to play it.
Thanks for the comments. Always nice to hear. And I hope you enjoy playing your own Concertina. Have you got any videos posted?
Mr. Tedrow "strings" up all the buttons on a long strip of felt and then snips them of one by one.
Hey Dude, on some clips you have tremendous phase issues with your audio ;-)
Where can someone buy components such as the reeds from? I assume you dont also need to make them by hand?
Bravo! This was really beautiful to watch. Well done, film maker!
Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated.
Muito boa.
I just inherited a 30+ year old Concertina from my grandma. A lot of the parts inside have worn out and fallen off. It still plays, but the keys get stuck. I know this video isn't technically a tutorial, but I'm definitely gonna use it as one to fix up mine :]
Beautiful!!!
Name song
2022,, this video deserves much more views!!!!
Amazing.
1:23 great sound track
+duc ho Thanks - yes I tried to make that almost as if it were a sound sculpture. Tells the story a much as the visuals.
what did you make the bellows out of
好精致的小琴啊~可惜中国很难买到,某宝上面只有不到三家店有卖😞我特别想玩这款琴
Tylko 3 sklepy ?! W Polsce można je kupić tylko w jednym sklepie
Amazing, I loved it.
This is so cool
Great Video.
wonderful!
kololikate Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Gordon Burns I loved it. I play an English Lachenal, not terribly well, and it was great to see one being made. A friend many years ago, when we talked about sailors playing them, commented that she supposed sailors could easily put one together with all the bits and pieces found on board ship! I don't think so!
kololikate Yeah -I can't imagine how they could make one like that. But hey - if anyone knows different let us know.
Gordon Burns she was a bit of a know-all but didn't realise that they are precision made instruments. Not just a bit of canvas sail cloth stuck together with odd bits of wood! Tuning each reed was fascinating.
how long did he take to build the bellows?
+Matheus Janczkowski Fogaça Good question. Better answered by the man himself, Anthony. enquiries@apjmusic.co.uk
+Gordon Burns Thank you for answering!
Glad to see that this is made using proper buttons with a small pin at the bottom rather than the atrocious job that AP James did for me with buttons that have no locating pin but go into a large hole in the action board and consequently catch and jam all the time. I had expected a concertina with the quality of an Andrew Norman instrument - very disappointed!
