Thank you so much Lester for sharing your method - I am now confident to replace a good few of the worn tapes on my hohner regina 1941 accordion - cheers
Thank you Lester for the fantastic videos/instruction. Now I just need to find myself a garden, shed, radio, heater, kettle, workbench, tools...then think about getting around to some DIY repair.
excellent video Lester , what would you recomend in this case . I am trying to restore and older accordion , i had it tuned by a profesional and i retaped the bellows following your video but the bellow pins were replaced at some point by some nasty screws . Do you know if there is anything i can do to restore that and be able to use the bellow pins again ?
It should be possible to remove the screws and plug the holes in the casework and the bellows frames with some dowels (I use cocktail sticks and wood glue) then re-drill the holes. If you do this be sure to compress the bellows gasket before drilling the holes otherwise you may get air leakage.
If working with bellows that have some stains or discoloration spots, is there anything you would recommend perhaps after the tape is stripped? I saw on melodion net some fellows attempting to use a thin paint to change color as well. And once again, THANK YOU enormously for posting and sharing your wealth of knowledge!!
Hi Lester - i am french from brittany - some days ago I have inherited an old hohner 2915 from my grand father - it is playing more or less correctly but there is a lot of work to restore it - i discovered your videos - that s fantastic so right now i believe i will be able to renovate it can you tell me where i can buy the pieces you used : felt - etc ... thanks by advance for your help Philippe
Hi Philippe. I buy all my felt etc from Charlie Marshall. He provides a fabulous service including to overseas customers. www.cgmmusical.co.uk/CGM_Musical_Services/Welcome.html
I loathe having to do this on my project boxes... but in the end it will be worth it, I'm sure. On a completely unrelated note: How much would you charge someone asking you to retape their bellows?
Very professional when I learned that 30 years ago it was no vidios. Thanks for sharing and very well explained.

I've tried painting but it was mostly unsuccessful, I find that adding nice new bright tape distracts the eye from seeing the staining.
Nice video! But what if the bellows aren’t completely air tight? I just bought a melodeon and it’s in perfect shape otherwise. What can I do?

My charges depend on the state of the box, but now `I mostly don't do retaping as it's such a horrible job.
Excelente trabajo gracias por compartir saludos desde Mexico
