My wife's great +++ grandfather was Sir Charles Wheatstone who invented the English Concertina in 1829. There was a German version made by Carl Friedrich Uhlig in 1834.
It was used in Ireland, England and in South America for tango and polka music.
Concertina refers to a family of hand held bellow driven free reed instruments. Later the Accordion was invented from this and then the Chord Organ which the chord organs are considered the "Flat Accordion" ~ my wife has been playing the C-Chord Organ for years (she writes the music for it too, as there are not too many books out there now for it) and she never knew she was indirectly playing an instrument her family invented!! We say her pitch perfect hearing for music must have come from Charles! Though we would share this story :~)

So coo!!! What happened to Sir Charles Wheatsone's personal instruments? Are they still in her family or are they in a museum?

The presentation was beautifully crafted just like the concertina itself. Now I can able to comprehend why there are such astronomic price tags associated in the purchase of a top of the range conceertina. Brilliant.

Newbies watching this should be aware that this is an affordable student instrument using Italian accordion reeds. High-end instrument use more responsive concertina reeds - which are far harder and more expensive to manufacture.
Nothing wrong with that - with the price of an advanced instrument so high these days there's a real need for this type of beginner offering. But compared to an old Wheatstone or Jeffreys or a new Dipper or Suttner, for example, it's a different kind of beast.

It's OK, but it's a concertina shaped diatonic accordeon - concertinas have individual reeds and chambers tuned to the size of the reeeds...

Glad to see that this is made using proper buttons with a small pin at the bottom rather than the atrocious job that AP James did for me with buttons that have no locating pin but go into a large hole in the action board and consequently catch and jam all the time. I had expected a concertina with the quality of an Andrew Norman instrument - very disappointed!
