I have one of these and absolutely love it! What I did with the cavity in the stock was sneak a ferro firststrter and some vaseline coated cotton balls rolled up in a ziplock. Very versatile shotgun.
This is exactly what I was wanting to see done to this shotgun. I'm really interested to see where you take this from here. Personally I'm not a fan of the plug idea, I think a pin-disconnect you could pull out (since the butt-stock plate will still hinge on one of the screws) would be a better idea.
Bit late to add a small tip but if I just saw this vid, others will, too. The tip....the same gun comes with nice black plastic/synthetic stock and forearm under the Nomad name from Sportsmans Warehouse. Twist the forearm sling swivel/screw and take the forearm off. Now fold the gun and see how close it folds. If that's good enough for you, just drill and Dremel the forearm slot, don't bother cutting the trigger guard. On the Nomad, that trigger guard cut doesn't add much. The forearm drill and cut is totally invisible in that slot...the trigger guard is very visible!
You’d need to do the same thing with the nomad, it has the same hooked trigger guard. You don’t do a major cut, you just cut the hook off. I had to cut both the trigger guard hook AND the handguard slot to get it to fold fully.
I see exactly what you're saying...that's what I meant. If the drill and dremel on the forearm is enough for you then just go that far. On mine, the Nomad .410, I wanted a guncase/gun rug type of kit, not a pocket stuffable. Be right back and let me grab mine...
I purchased the lazer arms single shot which is very similar but already has a 20" barrel open sights and screw in chokes all for $150 Canadian pecos. This looks like a fun project but I would buy the lazer for a little extra money just so you still have a choke in the gun.
Thanks for the info mate! Been looking for a cheap shotgun in canada with chokes so i dont have to worry about having a cut open choke. How well does yours fold in two??
@@J.sh_CDN it folds just like the "before" version of the Hatfield shotgun. Plenty small enough to fit into a hiking backpack to bring it into the woods.
I've got 10 single shot shotguns including two short ones that take down a stow very small so I'm trying really hard to resist the urge to get one of these. But they're only $100 so I probably will. One in each chambering.
Got question for ya, is cutting barrel down legal? Especially in WV. Throw in a set of chamber adapters for 12Ga and you would have a sweet SHTF meat get-er. 12Ga, 410, 45 or 9mm (depending on adapter set) plus 22lr. Just don't want to give the gun grabbers a reason to go after shotguns.
Federally, it’s fully legal as long as the barrel stays over 18” long. State laws vary, so double check that first. But I keep mine full of sub-caliber adapters for that exact reason as you suggested!
If you have an surplus ak stock, the hinged cleaning kit cover could be an option for the channel in the buttstock. The rubber plug would keep out water though.
If you're finding these for $250-300, they're robbing people blind. Even outside of Walmart (which mine in Utah still carry them for $100), it's available for $125ish online: www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/22818
The safety is easily moved, especially if the gun is laid on its side. Mine has a problem with the hammer catching on the safety notch when the trigger is not pulled vigorously. And yes, it does KICK! And I haven't shortened mine.
I have the semi-auto 12g Hatfield, I had the barrel sawed off at 18" and took it to a guy who makes custom chokes and custom threads barrels, he done my shotgun and I had him make me a bunch of chokes, cost me quite a bit but I now have a badass semi-auto with custom made chokes, so the pattern I'm not worried about anymore and with my improved choke I can throw some clean rifled slugs! ;) You should saw off the semi-auto next!
Idea instead of rubber plug ditch the butt plate and use a slip on recoil pad. Will hold your survival stuff, be more secure and your shoulder will be happier.
Would you consider selling that as a service. Ship the barrel, stock and trigger piece to get them modified? Feel many would get something like that done.
I actually have it set up now with a rifled .22lr adapter, and a 20g/.410/.45lc stacked adapter all stored onboard. Loads of options for lightweight or scavenged ammo.
@@booliganshootingsports On the shaved flatened part( below the checking) of the butt stock.I drilled a nickle sized hold and dropped in a 2 dollar compass. Works well and gives the gun more utilitarian feature and look.Mine is a 410 stained green to match the color of the Ronco pocket fisherman.

A little addition you could make is to add a steel tube underneath the barrel, kind of like a faux mag tube, and make it another storage compartment as well. Might take some work to get it to still fold up nice, but it gives you, again, more storage.

The whole point of this build is to make a compact folding shotgun to take while camping/hiking. In stock form and with the full length barrel, this shotgun is very long and unwieldy, and you wouldn't be able to easily carry it in a pack.
Booligan Airsoft and Shooting Sports I have the same gun and I hold it up and put it in a backpage a little bit sticks out but I would rather have the stock and end of the barrel showing then to loose range
Short shotgun barrels reducing range is a myth, on rifles yes, shotguns its all about the chokes. I have a 13inch bioto hiker ( in Canada it's legal) and its just as accurate as my 20 inch 870 and my 28 inch bioto reuna. Of course on rifles there is a point were a very long barrel would slow the bullet down due to drag, why we don't see a 50 inch barrel, the longer barrel on shotguns makes it easyer to swing in line when shooting at birds or clays, but that's it. We'll a longer sighting plain for slugs also but if you practice with your short barrel it doesn't matter honestly.
What a waste of a good cheap shotgun. It is now just a scattergun, without a choke. Stop being silly and have it threaded for choke tubes. I bought the American Tactical Nomad. Same shotgun with most of the things you have done to yours, done at the factory. 18 inch barrel with choke tubes. I put the HiViz TS sight on it. It clamps on the vent rib. My Nomad came with a backpack it fits in. It also came with the picatinny rail adapter to put a red dot or a scope on it. I am into it to the tune of about $200 with the sling, sight, silicone butt pad and Chiappa 9mm barrel adapter. I think I am going to splurge for the 18 inch Chaszel .357 magnum barrel insert. It goes just about everywhere I go now. Well, it hasn't gone to church with me.

Darn,,, I need a project and it sounds like fun to do. Off to Walmart. Barrel Cut short like that it must really spread out.
No longer sold there and going for over $120 2018 at buds
Leigh Rich my Walmart here in Ohio still has em 100 bucks out the door
Leigh Rich barrel length doesn’t dictate spread, the spread is determined by the choke, and it’s now technically a cylinder bore.
@@MoswenMedia barrel length can dictate spread because you have a shorter tube to control the expansion of your shot chokes to help with that as well
garret lightfoot a 18.5 inch barrel with a full choke will pattern the exact same as a 31 inch with a full choke. All you get from a barrel is range.

Tom Y Rossi already does that idea for $189. The thing that makes this gun so cool is the price ($99). Not so cool at nearly $200
