  • A SIMPLE explanation of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Learn how an LED works, its working principle, and the difference between it and pn diodes. If you want to learn more about Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), check out our in-depth post at: www.electrical4u.com/working-...
Light Emitting Diode which we also call L.E.D is nothing but like p n junction diode. Nowadays L.E.D’s are most widely used in semiconductor diodes. This diode emits light when it forward biased. Normally this diode is formed by a p n junction. This is the semiconductor p n junction. This diode has two terminals anode and cathode.
This is anode or positive terminal. This is cathode or negative terminal. The p n junction is surrounding by a transparent hard plastic epoxy resin hemispherical-shaped shell to protect the diode from external shock. This is the transparent cover of the diode.
Although we have already said that L.E.D is same as ordinary p n junction diode but it is also true that ordinary p n junction diode does not emit light when it is forward biased. Now we will try to explain what is the speciality of L.E.D? So that it can emit light which other cannot.

Got what i needed.... Thnxx... Why led emit light and why diode do not emit light ? Due to direct and indirect gap semiconductor respectively.

So then the so called "holes" are unfilled "shells" in a fixed atom? That is to say, this is the valence band, or these unfilled shells of all of theses atoms in the bulk of the semiconductor material.

I still don’t understand how led diodes works. This video had way to many internal technical words and explanations that normal people don’t understand. And if you do understand them you’d probably wont need to see this video..
