just because the bike starts moving doesn't mean you just let the clutch out, You have to continue to let it out until it all the way out or it will stall if you just drop the clutch.
your SUPPOSED to warm tbe engine up BEFORE you rev the shit out of it unless you love to rebuild engines and short engine life!! take care of that good looking yamaha
Hey Bobby. I think you did a good job with this video. Thanks for taking the time out to share this. The clutch must be fully extended out while giving some throttle going into the role for a good launch. Keep up the good work man and ignore all negative comments!!!
I've had the bike for 2 years and I've always done that. I even raced with it two weeks ago. Thanks for your concerns. Haven't had any problems with "worn out gears".
I was taught to turn the fuel tap off after using the bike for the day so I still naturally incorporate switching it on when starting the bike too. Happy memories!
lol, just today i tried to ride a dirt bike for the first time and i did the same thing u told us not to do which is "don't hold the throttle and just release the clutch" they didn't explain well enough and i started to do a whellie and had to jump of the bike. But after watching this i am so much more confident on what to do. And the bike i rode was a yamaha TTR L 125. Thanks for the vid.
dude what mx school did you go to? Can you put up more instructional videos? I want to learn how to not slip the clutch like you did in the entire video
Lol first off thank you for the view and nice comment secondly i don't understand why people are so stupid as to look at when this video was made i was 15 years old at that time and nothing they say negative is really relevant lol
Bobby Davis Woah I thought you were older than that haha. I got my first bike the other week, watched the video twice, and can now ride it, never ridden before, so thanks:)
"dont rev ur bike so high" - his bike could already be warm, you guys don't really think he did this video in one take, do you? " ur suck at shifting" - it's a beginner video "u only need clutch to shift down, not up" - use the clutch to shift period, unless you're speed shifting or power shifting which is bad on your bike. it really isn't recommended unless you're racing
Super Novas A funny insult to my intelligence. "learn how to spell", I like that. You really have nothing elce to insault me with other than my speling. gud one
when ever u slow down or need to come to a stop pull the clutch while braking also. You can start the bike in any gear just be sure to have the clutch pulled in while starting it. Downshifting. To down shift , pull the clutch in and kick down into whatever gear. You can down shift more than 1 gear at once. For example, if u r goin in 4th and need to slow down to take a corner or sumthin, just pull in clutch and kick down into what ever gear fits the speed that u want to take the corner
@TfAbEr190 on most dirtbikes, when you sit down there's a cap in front you that you unscrew. whatever bike you have, read the manual (or talk to dirtbike people) to find out the best gas you want to put in there (and if you need oil mixed in it or not).
Video could of been better, there was a lot of key things you failed to mention. Difference between two and four stroke, letting the bike warm up before you rip on the throttle, more explaining about the clutch lever exactly what it is and how it works, and since your riding one the 2stroke powerband! By the looks of it you look like a novice yourself!
Depends, if it wont start when the choke is "down" or off. Then yes pull it up and start it. Let it run for 20 seconds then shut the choke off. If your bike won't run unless the choke is "up" or on Even after warm up then most likely your carb is dirty but to answer your question. Yes turn the choke on before start then shut it off and ride.
Ok you say i needed to let people know the difference between 2 and 4 stroke why in gods name would i need to do that in a how to ride video its not a what kind of dirt bike video its HOW TO RIDE you stupid fuck
***** running with the choke on is just gonna run rich. No major damage. Some fouled plugs and excessive Carbon build up but not gonna blow it up or anything just run like crap
You wanna use the choke as little as possible, you dont need it all the time. It's just to get it started easier. The gas is just a switch or lever that turns the gas to feed the engine on or off. Always turn it off when youre not riding it.
yes, if you release it to quick then the engine will just shut off. but once you get going you dont have to worry about the clutch unless you wanna change gears.
Thank you so much when I first got my dirt bike I had no idea how to ride so I tried to ride thinking that it was easy then I dumped the clutch and I freaked out Then that night I found this video and the way u described how to use it it thought of this video and I had practiced and I got the hang of it right away thank you
I had a cr 125 for my first bike. I will never get another 2 stroke. I was working on it more than I was riding it. But when it was running that thing would giddy up. Nice video man just keep practicing and u will get good
I just bought a CR250R 2 stroke for my first dirt bike. I come from a strong street bike back ground and wanted to change this up. After riding my bike I see that 2 stroke is the way to go my buddy's 4 stroke could not hang lol
nice video mate - i already knew how to ride but i thought what the hell lets see how good people teach on youtube - and you did a great job - probably a bit nervous it seemed but otherwise you explained it short sharp and simple .. :)
I have got a wr250f as my first dirt bike, when I get the hang of it I'm getting a 125 or a 200 two stroke to help improve my riding then maybe move up to a bigger bike but I probably won't bother after that.
It goes 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. When you're in 1st going into Neutral, you'll wanna push up only a little, like half of what you would do usually. If you're in 1st going into 2nd, you'll wanna push up regularly (all the way).
Another thing - if your bike is a two stroke, make sure that when u are riding it - you don't hold the throttle in one spot, - it will blow it up...-while riding it, make sure that every couple of seconds push the throttle forward so that the bike can breathe
If you slowly release the clutch, extremely slow release, u will feel the engine start to shake/want to move/that is where u can let it roll a bit n now u will know when to give it has at that specific clutch release point
1:30 - On my dirtbike, you can go into nuetral inbetween any of the gears. Like between first and second or third and fourth etc. Though my dirtbike is a 1973 dt3 250cc, so the things might have changed since then. P.S. I think the Dt3 250 is the most beautiful bike ever made and yamaha is the best maker.
I'm 14 and I ride a kx 250 and a kx 450f but I would recommend a 125 two stroke or a 250 four stroke if your just starting or maybe even a little smaller
Decently explained... clutch is left lever, throttle is right handle, brake is right lever Kickstarter is next the right leg and the gear shift is next to the left foot... right.......
To Dana Davis, if u want to know how to pop the clutch just simply pull in the clutch and get the RPM up and when u do that just let go of the clutch fast and lean forward and hang on!
@Airbornebull yes u must or it will stall and you should downshift because if your in 5th gear and try to go from a dead stop you will stall research what a clutch does and you will understand why
Quickartv I have a dirt bike a 250crf no when u go to 2nd gear then 3r for example u just flip ur foot up and pull the clutch in and then let it go when ur in that gear
@mi2fast4u when u first start going you slowly let out the clutch but when shift from 2to3 or 3to4 u just pull in clutch shift then let it out u don't have to let it out just right, just let it go
@xXAcrobatixX no if your already moving u just pull the clutch in and let go fast if you want to it wont matter u wont stall even if you forget to pull the clutch in while you shift it will sometimes still shift its just better for the bike and will go faster if you use the clutch
I'd never learn how the 2 stroke works. I can only see, From the bottom, 1st,neutral,2nd,3rd,4th,5th (If it exist) But while you're going from 1st to 2nd you have to pass neutral... How? Only push up 2 times to get on 2nd gear? Am I right or wrong?
@baconator127 dont use the clutch at all when shifting from 1st to 2nd etc, just let off the gas and shift. watch a realy good rider, they only use the clutch from a start and in corners to get acceleration.
What would be a good and cheap starter bike for a 5 foot 3 14yr old? I was thinking like a 125cc honda. But it has to be between 1998-now. I have about $1700.
@Airbornebull If your planning on taking off again after you stop just pull in the clutch and shift to 1st then brake and stop. But if your not you can just hit the kill switch and cost to a stop.Hope this helps
since i ran out of room i will continue in a separate comment. When ur in 1st u slowly let the clutch out while giving it a little gas.once u feel it moving foward, dont suddenly let out the clutch, it will stall or turn off. You should be about 10ft down road before the clutch should be all the way out. you should shift when u hear the engine reving high but not all the way. To shift just let off the gas COMPLETLY, pull in the clutch, and kick the shifter UP into 2nd and same for all gears
questions? my grandad always did the starting and storage of my bike when i was younger, now im wanting to get back into it so i'm wondering: how to stop and store my bike (hopefully getting a yz 125) and i heard in another how to video you have to turn on the gas and choke? when should i turn on and off the choke? and what is this gas i hear of? just the throttle or...? help thanks
I just bought my first bike. if im in 2nd gear and shift to 1st, if i wanna come to a stop but keep the motor running, do i just push the brake and hold the clutch in.
I can tell you one thing that most guys don't do that you said to do. You don't use the clutch every time your switching gears on a race bike or pitbike. The only time you really have to use the clutch is when taking off.
4 years ago this kid taught me how to use a clutch, 2 days later i bought my first 125. 4 years later i'm racing 250B. Thanks buddy, you helped me
just because the bike starts moving doesn't mean you just let the clutch out, You have to continue to let it out until it all the way out or it will stall if you just drop the clutch.
+Hanh Lol.
Jere Parkin bvjvh I love you. Haircut I love you very much don't forget me a haircut thank you
I’ve whiskey throttled it so many times on a 2 stroke 450!
Hanh haha sameeee
Nick Blevins chatting shit lol there ain’t no 450 2 smoker
always wear a helmet... *gets on bike without helmet lol
Suka Schultz he didn't fire it up
He didnt ride without a helmet
your SUPPOSED to warm tbe engine up BEFORE you rev the shit out of it unless you love to rebuild engines and short engine life!!
take care of that good looking yamaha
michael phillips ever think maybe i was riding beforehand?
possibly - it would be a good thing if you were
I was
Bobby Davis so your like 22 now
its a two stroke fool.
I love the sound of a 2 stroke.
Damn it A-a-ron same
Hey Bobby. I think you did a good job with this video. Thanks for taking the time out to share this. The clutch must be fully extended out while giving some throttle going into the role for a good launch. Keep up the good work man and ignore all negative comments!!!
thanks bri!
Wasn't that a little too much throttle in the start?
I've had the bike for 2 years and I've always done that. I even raced with it two weeks ago. Thanks for your concerns. Haven't had any problems with "worn out gears".
This was the first video I ever watched on dirt bikes and now I'm actually going to get one this is amazing👌!
I was taught to turn the fuel tap off after using the bike for the day so I still naturally incorporate switching it on when starting the bike too. Happy memories!
I can't believe you're still active on this account over all the years...
Juan Laco I don't think he is
Oh but I am haha
Probably look a lot different now 9 years later lol
Bobby upload some videos man. U have potential!!
This dude helped me learn last year.. I started on a 1985 CR125 i now ride a KTM 250 MXC.. goood video sir
Just gas it till rev limiter and drop the clutch. That way you can wheelie at the same time. Learn 2 things at once ;)
Three
Just think about it
I ride a yz450f and if I dump the clutch it still wants to pop a wheelie bot just 2 strokes 😅
lol, just today i tried to ride a dirt bike for the first time and i did the same thing u told us not to do which is "don't hold the throttle and just release the clutch" they didn't explain well enough and i started to do a whellie and had to jump of the bike. dude what mx school did you go to? Can you put up more instructional videos? I want to learn how to not slip the clutch like you did in the entire video
Slipping hard. Not sure he knows what he is doing. Won't idle because he doesn't know how to tune it.
Good vid, I rode a dirt bike for the first time today, Yamaha 250 and it was great fun, after 5 minutes I had shifting down.
This looks like it was made in 80s looks good tho m8
lmao
Its a 2000 yz250
Slagging it off is pointless when this video is actually really useful.
More useful than reading comments that just belittle what this guy has done.
BazyLazy neutral is like a half click not a full click you'll understand it better if u have one
how do you know when the revs are high? (how do you know the right time to change gear)
Ronk Hyde youll here the pitcch getting higher
Ronk Hyde when u feel the engine stop pulling
Caleb Wilhelm no thats when u blow it up ... at that point ur hitting rev limiter lol
oh yea ... go rev limit ur bike for a couple minutes and tell me how ur connectimg rod and bearings feel
Thank you for teaching me how to ride a motorbike with a clutch.
Now I have a yz85 2 strock
"dont rev ur bike so high" - his bike could already be warm, you guys don't really think he did this video in one take, do you?
" ur suck at shifting" - it's a beginner video
"u only need clutch to shift down, not up" - use the clutch to shift period, unless you're speed shifting or power shifting which is bad on your bike. it really isn't recommended unless you're racing
"You really need to learn how to spell..."
Super Novas A funny insult to my intelligence. "learn how to spell", I like that. You really have nothing elce to insault me with other than my speling. gud one
U still spelt stuff wrong....
Normal Guy thank you for having common sense and defending me i appreciate it :)
marksunder mabed That's the point, smart guy.
thank you your video has been a great refresher course got my first bke in 10 years to day
nice job man i appreciate this i just got my first bike its a honda cr125
Looking to get a bike for the summer, just needed a refresher on shifting, Thanks man!
that sounds like a 2 stroke is it?
duh dude it has a fatty pipe
If you dont know this you should not be riding
I don't ride dirt bikes im just really fond of them. i think they're cool
cj altman If he doesn't know this, he probably started riding yesterday
You can tell if a 2 stroke by sound and the exhaust it's always fat at the front like his
when ever u slow down or need to come to a stop pull the clutch while braking also. You can start the bike in any gear just be sure to have the clutch pulled in while starting it. Downshifting. your chain loots way too tight
What's a loot?
Luke12582 looks
Looks tighter than a virgin on prom night
Nick Kolb I salute...
lol
Hey, just want to thank you for the video.Just bought me an 125 and currently teaching(yeah i said teaching a friend) thanks dude !! JUST AWESOME....
NETFLIX AND CHILLLLLLLLLL ;)
thanks dude you taught me to drive with clutch!
and I love to drive dirtbike!
This is hilarious. U can't even shift properly urself
i also thinnking the same
Probably needs to shift more anyway
Sure dont
@TfAbEr190
on most dirtbikes, when you sit down there's a cap in front you that you unscrew. whatever bike you have, read the manual (or talk to dirtbike people) to find out the best gas you want to put in there (and if you need oil mixed in it or not).

***** running with the choke on is just gonna run rich. No major damage. Some fouled plugs and excessive Carbon build up but not gonna blow it up or anything just run like crap
Bobby Davis and you failed to show how to properly do that
+Bobby Davis lol
@HWTWP It doesn't matter, the clutch system is the same, the only thing that's different is a 2 stroke needs mixed gas and has more tork
I hate 2 strokes they sound like shit
I hate you
I’m getting 4stroke
You wanna use the choke as little as possible, you dont need it all the time. It's just to get it started easier. The gas is just a switch or lever that turns the gas to feed the engine on or off. Always turn it off when youre not riding it.

two stroke power
Two strokes do it twice as often
@MyFlug it doesn't matter if you let off or not as long as you pull the clutch in when you shift.
nice video mate - i already knew how to ride but i thought what the hell lets see how good people teach on youtube - and you did a great job - probably a bit nervous it seemed but otherwise you explained it short sharp and simple .. :)
@BassDrumBrain no when you shift from first to 2nd even if you shift it all the way up it will just go in 2nd theres no way that it can skip 2nd
@DizUk1 no neutral is in between 1st and 2nd click down for first then up for secong neutral is in the middle and u have to half click it to find it
I have got a wr250f as my first dirt bike, when I get the hang of it I'm getting a 125 or a 200 two stroke to help improve my riding then maybe move up to a bigger bike but I probably won't bother after that.
To change gears let off the throttle an pulp the clutch and push up or down on your gear changer depending what bike you have
@26ghey 125 easy way to tell is that 250 pipes wrap around a little farther like an s and 125s go straight in
@25nevan
all 2 strokes need mixed fuel
or the engine will seize up and explode.
its just whether you need pre mix or not
Thanx dude! I'm presently on a sportsbike nd was wondering about the gearing 'cause my next bike would be a dirtbike.
It goes 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
When you're in 1st going into Neutral, you'll wanna push up only a little, like half of what you would do usually.
If you're in 1st going into 2nd, you'll wanna push up regularly (all the way).
Cool of you to post a vid to be helpful. I learned to ride on a similar video when I got a bike before I learned to ride!
If u hold on the clutch and and have it in 1st u can kick start or if u have it in netural and u can go
Another thing - if your bike is a two stroke, make sure that when u are riding it - you don't hold the throttle in one spot, - it will blow it up...-while riding it, make sure that every couple of seconds push the throttle forward so that the bike can breathe
U probably taught alot of people how to ride nice job. :)
@Airbornebull no u need to use your brake and downshift if u slow down that much
Nice vid! This is a great demonstration- especially for people learning a clutch.
P.S. I can already ride a dirt bike
@quickarTV you dont need to use the clutch up shifting only down shifting... and down shifting your just gonna have to get the feel for it yourself
good video, Just bought a 250 yamaha from my buddy. Gonna ride for my first time
thanks! this is the best vid of its kind on the net....
pull It When You Want To Switch Gears or if it is your first time riding just get use to clutch control and when you want to stop pull in the clutch
If you slowly release the clutch, extremely slow release, u will feel the engine start to shake/want to move/that is where u can let it roll a bit n now u will know when to give it has at that specific clutch release point
1st gear will always be down then after that you push up into second then up again into third etc. neutral is in between 1st and second gear.
I getting one tomorrow and you showed me how to start it and every thank you
1:30 - On my dirtbike, you can go into nuetral inbetween any of the gears. Like between first and second or third and fourth etc. Though my dirtbike is a 1973 dt3 250cc, so the things might have changed since then. P.S. I think the Dt3 250 is the most beautiful bike ever made and yamaha is the best maker.
@atvchick09 It is quite different but you should be used to the throttle, e.g. how much throttle to give it at any one time.
I'm 14 and I ride a kx 250 and a kx 450f but I would recommend a 125 two stroke or a 250 four stroke if your just starting or maybe even a little smaller
nice bike 8) my old friend in cali had a 125 a lot like that and it wassa damn good bike too...nice video for beginners 8)
Decently explained... clutch is left lever, throttle is right handle, brake is right lever
Kickstarter is next the right leg and the gear shift is next to the left foot... right.......
@mchimc you should always hold the clutch in jst in case it jumps out of gear
@EasyTricker hold the clutch and then click the gear down into first, slowly release the clutch while revving the bike.
Just a btw, since this bike is a two stroke ,you should use choke to start it, but then turn off choke.
Thank u for this great video and the recap
What would be a good and cheap starter bike for a 5 foot 3 14yr old? I was thinking like a 125cc honda. But it has to be between 1998-now. I have about $1700.
@Airbornebull If your planning on taking off again after you stop just pull in the clutch and shift to 1st then brake and stop. But if your not you can just hit the kill switch and cost to a stop.Hope this helps
thanks it really helped , can you get automatic dirt bikes?
thank you for teaching me how to ride a dirtbike
:)
i think this is an awesome vid! good job dude
no bike warm up? that shit is gunna cold seize
since i ran out of room i will continue in a separate comment.
That suspension sound's really good (;
Nice vid dude!, it's perfect for the beginners, take care :)
This video is great for beginners like me, thanks :)!
Nice video it tought my little bro how to ride i didnt want to explain it so thanks.... :)
i thought 1st gear was shift up..not down.. does it depend on the bike? im really confused..
questions?
my grandad always did the starting and storage of my bike when i was younger, now im wanting to get back into it so i'm wondering:
how to stop and store my bike (hopefully getting a yz 125)
and i heard in another how to video you have to turn on the gas and choke?
when should i turn on and off the choke?
and what is this gas i hear of? just the throttle or...?
help thanks
neutral or first, to start up on first gear u hav to hold the clutch
its a nice video u explained everything a learner should know (good job)~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi very useful two things, brakes???!?!?
and know if controls always that layout or isit like cars when english and american ones are different?
I just bought my first bike. if im in 2nd gear and shift to 1st, if i wanna come to a stop but keep the motor running, do i just push the brake and hold the clutch in.
I can tell you one thing that most guys don't do that you said to do. You don't use the clutch every time your switching gears on a race bike or pitbike. The only time you really have to use the clutch is when taking off.
This video has taught me alot
btw you can just pop the clutch you can do it without leting it go slowly u just need to be hard on the gas at the same time
