As an Englishman ex member of the American Civil War Society (uk) 69th New York Irish Brigade I am deeply moved to see this wonderful film. We did a Gettysburg reenactment in 2002 in England with 2000 soldiers. Not the same scale but it was an honour to take part. Bless you all from your comrades in arms in the UK. I have distant cousins who were on the North and South in the war.
I’m glad to see folks are still going out there to do this. It’s a far cry from 1998 when we had more than 12,000 guys lined up for Pickett’s Charge. There were 25,000 reenactors there over that weekend.
Yeah, I was a walk-on for that one (I was going through Ordnance OBC at Aberdeen at the time, so I had had a Union Ordnance LT uniform made before the event). The photo folks lost my three rolls of film; something I've never gotten over...
In all of my reenactment years the 1998 Pickett's Charge is probably the one that I remember most vividly. That was actually the last mega event that I did. I was in the actual Army and things got out of hand a couple of years later. I'm retired now and still do some living history presentations at small local events but I will never forget the 135th of Gettysburg.
@@jasonwilliamson8416 I wish I could have gone to that! I was only a year old at that time though. Me and my Dad went to the 160th Gettysburg. That was his first reenactment, and my second. It was a trip I'll never forget.

They'd never be able to cover all that in a 3 hour movie.

If you look at 1:25 you can see the company whose captain was shot as he got the order to fall back as the rebels were charging towards them. 99% of that company were killed because rather than falling back they stayed put on the bloody angle until someone from a neighboring company saw and either ordered them to fallback or they simply retreated because they had lost so many.
Nice to see! Greenfield Village in Dearborn MI used to host a CW Remembrance over Memorial Day Weekend. Not anymore. They gave a lame excuse about revamping the program! I thought WHat!! The reenactors bring everything, you supply the field!
2 of the 3 division commanders were wounded, but Pickett wasn’t. Why did he stay in the rear with the gear as the other 2 lead their divisions forward?
I saw some Black men among the Confederate soldiers in the video. Glad to see nobody is bared from participating because of historical accuracy. Anyone who wants to reenact on any side should and I’m glad to see that here.
