I’ve had a G70 for just about 4 years, and couldn’t be happier. It had a couple of minor issues at the beginning, but all covered under warranty. Better yet, with their concierge service, it was no inconvenience to me at all; they picked up my car from my house, left me a loaner G70, and returned it back to my house when finished. At every regular maintenance, same thing, and i dont have to deal with any of the BS high pressure sales tactics for unnecessary work; they take it away, bring it back, no hassle. I love the car too; my lease is up next year and I’m hoping to get the GV70 coupe. Highly recommend Genesis and ive had nothing but positive experiences

You captured Genesis in a word at 21 minutes 28 seconds- “Wow!”
When I first saw the GV60 at Fully Charged UK live 2022 Farnborough - that is the word I used and the word I heard used by countless others when they first got into the car.
The great tech is taken as read, the building quality is a pleasant surprise, the ergonomics are fantastic ( switches, dials, knobs, stalks, etc ) but the interior materials, colour scheme and design are “wow”!
Thanks for a great review. This is the second one of your mechanic review’s I’ve watched - you’ve got a new subscriber.
Proud owner of a GV60 for the last 2 years and nothing on the market in that time has taken my eye in the same way.

i like when the temperature is displayed either inside the knob like here, or in a dedicated HVAC display. When the temp is in the main entertainment screen, it can take a while to pop up after just starting the vehicle. In my stinger, as soon as you start the car, its several seconds before the temp setting shows up, as the display boots all the way. once its fully booted its fine.
that feature of touching the seat buttons and seeing what they do is a very nice idea. this vehicle in ICE form looks like a very nice way to spend time on the road.

Decent vehicle. Was going to purchase 2024 until dealership (Western Canada - Winnipeg) changed the price and finance terms. Dealership not concerned with questionable approach to customer service. First time I had to walk away from an “agreed” deal and know Im not the only one with this particular dealership. GV 70 is a nice vehicle but dealership experience continues to need improvement in Canada in my experience. Great technical video.

You are winning me over this car. I am Jeep GC Overland fan for many years. I lease one now for 24 months, to try the Plug-in HB. I love the car, but I hate the gas/ev concept. Will never do this again. I will not touch full EV till they reach, one day soon, 4-500 miles charge. I will stay with gas for now. I am going to give Genesis the chance on the V6 block. Everytime I watch a review on threm, its a pleasure to hear the positive on them.

  • @vinhngo1894
    @vinhngo1894 6 месяцев назад +4

The need for larger brakes on EVs are necessary despite that regen braking exists, because it’s an added safety measure. You need a lot more friction to stop 5000+ lbs, which a single-piston or even dual-piston caliper won’t have the physical force or thermal capacity to minimize braking distance to prevent an accident.

Get the gas 2.5t version for almost half the price of the EV (~$46k). It does 300hp with a ton of low end torque. In sports mode, this SUV drives like an agile sports sedan (it's based on the excellent G70). Super responsive and fun without the range anxiety and charging issues of EVs. I got one (advanced trim) about a month ago and absolutely love it. Would love to see a mechanic breakdown of the gas model.

I’m liking what you’re saying, I have a 2023 Kia Sportage with a 2.5L engine, it’s not turbo charged, but it’s the SmartStream Engine, meaning it has dual fuel injection, MPI & GDI, thus eliminating the carbon buildup, that ruins the performance, reliability & costly repairs, which happens to EVERY GDI Engine especially German Engines. Point the 2.5L engines from Genesis & Kia don’t have the carbon buildup 😊, and have very reliable engines, I stumbled upon this fact after I got my Kia Sportage and I’m very pleased of this result. I’m planning on getting every bit of my 100K warranty. I’ve already put 10K miles on my car since purchased in July 2023, highway miles to & from work. Loving my car, again Good 👍🏾 Work Genesis and Kia.

The thing I found about front adjustable seats control for the passenger is that its actually really useful. My wife likes to put the passenger seat all the way back and leaning. When I transport kids or have stuff in the back seat I can move the passenger seat forward easily without having to get out and walk all the way around to the other side to do it. It is more useful than it seems. I don't know why people worry kids will play with the seat buttons. Just be a good parent and train your kids have respect for others. Most kids don't even care about it anyways and prefer to look at their phone, not a single kid has messed with it since I had my car.

Umm, home heat pump systems work pretty well - _down_ to a certain (outdoor) temperature! Below that temp an auxiliary heating device is used. Normally that is a simple resistive heating element. Of course it uses about 5 time the power per minute as the heat pump uses. But in mild climates HVAC systems with heat pumps can keep costs down.

This reminds me of the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV I just leased for 2 years. I got it because it was cheap to lease, got an EV credit for $7200 + some money down so I'm paying $317 a month. It's a stop gap car until the car market figures out what it wants to do, hence I didn't buy it. But it comes with a big touch screen, I don't even use it, half of the tech it comes with is turned off. All I need is a steering wheel, AC, a good radio, a speedometer and tachometer (preferably analog) power windows and door locks. That's it. Even if I had the money to buy something like this Genesis I would be throwing money away because that touch screen I would never use. I use my cell phone for navigation, best maps hands down. People waste too much money on bells and whistles, just not necessary.

Thank you AMD. Been waiting on that one for a while now. Been a Lexus owner since 2009 (LSs and LC) and wanted to go electric (here in the province of Quebec, our infrastructure is really top notch), but Lexus and Toyota were not there yet. So I gave that one a chance, since it looks like a regular car instead of a spaceship. Hoping that Genesis will be a bit of a Lexus, quality wise. Some things look good (interior) but as for mechanical components, I was really looking forward to this review. Thanks again!

We purchased this exact vehicle- 2024 GV70 Electrified in Malachite Grey - in September ‘23 for $80k and have just hit 5,000 miles on it. We’ve had no issues at all so far and love it! We have an 80A level 3 charger installed in our garage which is nice and fast. we’ve only had to pay to charge it once and that was in Austin, Texas where there were not any Electrified America chargers within 20 miles of where we were in downtown so we coughed up $14 to fill up at one of the many others that were. We get very fast charge times up to 80% if using the 350v Electrified America chargers (which are free to use as much as we want for the first 3 years).

I have the GV 70 with 2.5 four cylinders. I have always been a Lincoln SUV customer until I test drove this SUV. It is by far the nicest luxury SUV I have ever owned. Going from a Lincoln Corsair Reserve to this GV70 was like shopping at Macys and then discovering Neiman Marcus. Once I drove this SUV, my Lincoln felt almost cheap by comparison. My Lincoln Corsair Reserve was close to the price of my Genesis GV70 Advanced. It is so much better in every way. It is solid luxury in every way. The wipers on my Lincoln always screeched and when using the cooled seats, the fan noise was loud and annoying. On the Genesis GV70 you can hardly hear the wipers and the cooled seats make no noise at all. The sound system is magnificent, and the car is so quiet. Once I learned electronics, it was much better than Lincoln's. The glass sunroof is so dark I can leave the shade open even in the summer. I could go on and on.... but test drive one and carefully look over the fit and finish from under the hood all the way to rear deck. Very impressive!

I have the 2023 GV70 2.5L Sport Prestige and the car is amazing. The interior and exterior is very similar to the electrified version in this review. More than enough power at 300 HP for a vehicle this size. Lots of neat technology like 3D instrument cluster, ergonomic seat adjustment with massage, adapted cruise control with highway assist, ambient lighting, etc., the list goes on. Plus the warranty is longer and they offer 3 year free maintenance and 3 year free valet service (for service, dealership will come to your house and pick up your vehicle, leave you another Genesis to drive, and bring your vehicle back when finished.

The problem with octovalve in Tesla is when it fails. It will cost an arm and leg to replace it.

Interesting point - an expensive large single complex unit (Octovalve) with limited serviceability versus a myriad of easily and inexpensive serviceable parts? Only time will tell which was the better option in terms of reliability and overall servicing cost. Though to date I’ve not heard of any Octovalve issues though I understand it was only introduced in the new Model Y in 2020. Genesis GV60 ( I presume that has the same thermal management hardware) wasn’t released until 2022 in the UK.

the hot coolant heats the chiller that cools the heater of the 3 way valve coupled with the refrigerant that heats the cabin when heater cold....or something like that. I think I would take my 4 banger old school diesel and get 600 miles out of it for 45 bucks and not worry about anything except change the oil every blue moon

I think it's better to have more coolant control valves rather than it all be in one piece... think about replacement and how much cheaper it will be replacing only what you need instead of the whole thing like on a Tesla.

In ECO mode this vehicle has been tested to get around 260 miles. If you look at channels that specialize in EV vehicles you can see the results. Considering the majority of drivers drive under 50 miles per day...how often do you really go cross country or more than 100 miles each way? You plugin at home then leave full other than the occasional longer trip.
You need a 800 volt charging system to get 800V speeds. The speed is just as much the charging station as it is the vehicles ability.
Comment about charging covers... Have you seen what Tesla, BMW etc use? A rubber cover, same thing. It's about protection not style.
GV70 electrified is the same as the gas options. HMG literally cut off section of the bottom to adapt vehicle for battery then used the engine bay for electronics. Only difference is the floor is a few inches higher to accommodate batteries. You get a little more legroom in the ICE GV70.
It's not a bespoke platform. The GV70 was designed before EGMP was finalized

Remember how they failed to address their Hyundai/KIA car theft issue and some insurance companies refused to insure them. Their solution to "address the issue" is to give customers a steering wheel lock that can be picked in seconds! They didn't even bother with a GOOD lock, just the cheapest lock possible!

The eGV70 is a...weird product. Hyundai-Kia has the great e-GMP platform which underpins excellent cars like the Ioniq 5 and EV6. The GV70 however is built on the ICE derived RWD M3 platform shared with the G70, G80 and GV80, which means it is not as optimized say compared to the e-GMP based GV60. However they grafted the same 77.4 kWh battery from the e-GMP cars onto this, meaning the range isn't all that great compared to a car designed with EV powertrains in mind, e.g. the BMW iX3 on their CLAR platform.
