My first ever concert was a Lindisfarne concert, when i was 7 or 8, at Portsmouth Guildhall. I didn't really appreciate it, i just went cos my dad loved them and i wanted to join in and see what all the fuss was about.
Listening to this now, and 'Fog on the Tyne' and also ' Lady Eleanor', i have to say, i should have appreciated it more! not that i'll ever admit it to my dad, but hey - it reminds me of my childhood!

Sat in a Hotel in London feeling home sick and nostalgic. This video didn’t help. Flashed back to the City hall Christmas concerts of the late seventies, getting pleasantly numb in the Haymarket then wandering round and trying to smuggle some cans in to the hall. One memorable night Ray Jackson came to the front of the stage and announced that he wanted to see everyone down in the first four rows, oh the look on the bouncers faces. The best Christmas parties ever.

I saw Lindisfarne at the beautiful Auditorium Theater in Chicago on March 12, 1972. They opened for the Kinks. Lindisfarne did well, but after what I recall as the shortest between-band break I've ever seen -- couldn't have been more than 10 minutes -- the Kinks came on and did not disappoint their 3000 or so fans.
"Lady Eleanor" was familiar to FM-radio listeners in the Chicago area at the time. I played their first three albums often on my college radio show in Iowa in the early 70s. In 73(?) I bought the Lindisfarne Live LP, which, because of its poor audio quality, some consider the worst live album ever released. I always liked it, though, even if it didn't include CWL. Fortunately, the "Definitive Edition" CD has the complete 1971 concert that LP only sampled, and there's a stretched-out CWL with bits of Buddy Holly and Bo Diddly thrown in for fun.
Another version of CWL I like is on The Cropredy Concert (1997) even though Alan flubs some lyrics. RIP Alan.

When I went to see Lindisfarne - at Edinburgh Playhouse - I was sure they'd 'open' with CWL but they didn't. I was intrigued by the wee square things along the bottom of the stage - I was in the fifth row from the front, and could see everything.
This quickly changed when their final encore was Clear White Light as the wee boxes housed photofloods that were blinding people in 'the gods'. I was looking straight at them when they came on - about a fortnight later, I had vision!
Saw them at Glasgow Green a few years' later - along with Runrig et al. Ace day, both times.

Si Cowe is a head brewer in canada, ray laidlaw is still gigging at the moment doing the lidisfarne story up and down the uk with billy mitchell a great show if you get the chance to see it plenty of the songs with a bit of banter off how the band got together

Billy Brown sadly this needs updated. Ray Jackson restarted the band in aid of saving the Newcastle City Hall. (Lasted two years.) Si Cowe is sadly no longer with us. Billy and Ray are on to a further version of the ‘Lindisfarne Story’, with a twist and the band is now being led by Rod and they are still singing these wonderful songs, and at the City Hall at Christmas.
