    I was practicing Shotokan from the age of 7 and left it at age 16 for other disciplines (boxing, MT ). I wouldn't have left it, if our training had looked like this. I'm hitting the subscribe button with a tetsui uchi!!!

      thanks Christian! Unfortunately your story isn't uncommon, hopefully our videos and future projects will help spur the rediscovery of practical karate drills haha thanks for the support!

      Thanks! That's funny we were feeling like we've been lagging on the production value but I guess we're still keeping it up hahaha thank you!

      I took some of these ideas to my own class yesterday. Can you speak a bit about the Kentsui Uchi? What are some teaching points? What is some of the theory or philosophy associated with it, in your view?

    Interesting how the striking with hammer fists towards the end invites an almost sword like method of attack. You can imagine the strikes being used with a blade of some sort and striking/cutting through to the angles

    • @karateculture
      @karateculture  7 лет назад +1

      oh definitely! good point, it forces you to "slice" and keep the second hand trailing right after, it was a fun drill and we'll be doing it more often

      HBdude13 No idea, but those are white belts they be holding.

    • @Liquidcadmus
      @Liquidcadmus 7 лет назад +2

      HBdude13 im guessing they are meant to keep both hands coordinated and in motion together for the excercise in matter

    • @brettbartoli5419
      @brettbartoli5419 7 лет назад

      Liquidcadmus this pretty much. both hands are forcibly kept active so that one doesn't go limp or floating. helps you keep a guard and strike at the same time while finding an opening

    Begging your pardon, but what was that stuff, with the belts, about?

    • @karateculture
      @karateculture  7 лет назад

      It forces you to keep your fists closed and do top down movements like the hammerfists. It's like sparring with limited mobility to force the technique to come out

  • @a7699aaa
    @a7699aaa 7 лет назад

    blocking the low kick with a hammer first like you do at 1:02? a good way to break your hand.

  • @a7699aaa
    @a7699aaa 7 лет назад

    how can this be more effective than a straight punch?

    • @karateculture
      @karateculture  7 лет назад +1

      Andrea Rovai if you watch other primates, they use the hammer fist very well since you're able to whip your entire arm in a downward motion, very much like a ball and chain weapon. For a straight punch it requires a different power from the feet up to the hips and then straight forward. That would have a lunging body weight behind it whereas a hammerfist had a sinking weight behind it, hope that helps! Thanks for the question!

    this would make a lot more sense if you'd practice soft sparring with gloves.
