I was practicing Shotokan from the age of 7 and left it at age 16 for other disciplines (boxing, MT ). I wouldn't have left it, if our training had looked like this. I'm hitting the subscribe button with a tetsui uchi!!!
thanks Christian! Unfortunately your story isn't uncommon, hopefully our videos and future projects will help spur the rediscovery of practical karate drills haha thanks for the support!
I took some of these ideas to my own class yesterday. Can you speak a bit about the Kentsui Uchi? What are some teaching points? What is some of the theory or philosophy associated with it, in your view?
Interesting how the striking with hammer fists towards the end invites an almost sword like method of attack. You can imagine the strikes being used with a blade of some sort and striking/cutting through to the angles
0:10 This style of Morotee Gedann (Low )Harai Parring is also existing on Sai Ψ-jitsu . This fact says that Okinawan traditional Martial Art is origin of Karate.
Liquidcadmus this pretty much. both hands are forcibly kept active so that one doesn't go limp or floating. helps you keep a guard and strike at the same time while finding an opening
It forces you to keep your fists closed and do top down movements like the hammerfists. It's like sparring with limited mobility to force the technique to come out
Andrea Rovai if you watch other primates, they use the hammer fist very well since you're able to whip your entire arm in a downward motion, very much like a ball and chain weapon. For a straight punch it requires a different power from the feet up to the hips and then straight forward. That would have a lunging body weight behind it whereas a hammerfist had a sinking weight behind it, hope that helps! Thanks for the question!
Mike Turley before reverse punch was not natural after i train more and more now reverse punch more natural than hammerfist so reverse punch reflexe if you teach reverse punch to Baby reverse punch will be natural for it. dont forget walking was not natural in Baby after Baby learn walking
More great stuff, gentlemen!

You guys always make great vids. They make me want to train with you every time I watch one. Keep them coming!
your production value has always been great but they've been getting exceptionally good lately
Thanks! That's funny we were feeling like we've been lagging on the production value but I guess we're still keeping it up hahaha thank you!
Osu, really wish you guys start making videos again...
There are a tonne of ideas here guys. Great work!
glad you liked it! thanks!

Thanks for sharing. You shown a lot i can take back into my Xingyi training
Glad you can take some drills and use them in your art, wish we could learn xingyi down here! thank you!
Can you try to make a video on the application of the kakuto wrist strike and some basic combinations
hey that's a good one, we'll mess around with the kakuto and see what we can come up with, thanks!
Luke always. Great video 👍
thank you!
Nice movement,
Osu! Greeting from jujitsu
thank you! great to hear support from other arts, we're all the same

oh definitely! good point, it forces you to "slice" and keep the second hand trailing right after, it was a fun drill and we'll be doing it more often
OSU love your videos
Good vid

Greetings from a practitioner of Ngo Cho Kun ( Five Ancestors Fist ) Kung Fu
greetings! so cool of you to check out our video coming from Kung fu, we are all on the same path, so thank you!
is it just the two of who train together.
What's that stuff with the towels at the end?
HBdude13 No idea, but those are white belts they be holding.
HBdude13 im guessing they are meant to keep both hands coordinated and in motion together for the excercise in matter
Liquidcadmus this pretty much. both hands are forcibly kept active so that one doesn't go limp or floating. helps you keep a guard and strike at the same time while finding an opening
interesting thank you!
Begging your pardon, but what was that stuff, with the belts, about?

blocking the low kick with a hammer first like you do at 1:02? a good way to break your hand.
Not if you do it properly.
how can this be more effective than a straight punch?

wow! subscribe!
thank you!
The hammer fist, starring Idris Elba. lol
this would make a lot more sense if you'd practice soft sparring with gloves.
hammer fist is a natural strike ad reverse punch is not.thnx
Mike Turley A reverse punch is more effective if done correctly though
Mike Turley before reverse punch was not natural after i train more and more now reverse punch more natural than hammerfist so reverse punch reflexe
