Young man you have a excellent future. You remind of myself at your age. I loved cars...but you have such an in-depth knowledge of one of the most sophisticated cars ever built. I never knew what those little antenna were on the rear of the car...lol know I know. Stick with it kid you're gonna go a long way. Great video.
Agreed. Owned one of these for years and discovered a few new features. Every auto company ought to have such a detailed and concise video for every car for the buyers.
So awesome that you appreciate an old car like this! Many people of our young generation can't appreciate well built products and good engineering. I have been driving my 380SE since I was 16 (I'm 20 now) and I've loved every bit of it. Just finished a top end rebuild. No, it's not the fastest car, but it's solid, and it has class (it's in the name lol). If you want to take your channel to the next level, document an OM606 swap!
Very detailed tour! You did a lot better then many “professionals” and brought out many detailed points. I drive a 1984 w123 300d and you are making me want to get a w140 300sd lol
What a nice and detailed review of W140s interior and exterior as well as the functions of each component of this fantastic car. Great job kid. Waiting for more thrilling content.
obviously you like me love this creamy dreamy S Class. as a kid this was my dream barge . A very informative and absorbing review from you giving us the full specifications and when new futuristic features that set this car apart from all others Great Review.
Great work. Great seeing that even just a youngster can tell how great these cars really were. Love my 90k mile 93 300SE 23 years old and I don't see why it would have any issues with going 23 more. Only thing I don't understand is why they put the A/C system in location that costs few grand to get to for service or replacement.
Thanks, yes these were absolutely wonderful cars. Too bad this particular model leaks a lot of oil, we are thinking about doing a engine overhaul and turbo overhaul, I am saving up with my part-time job! But these cars don't ever seem to breakdown, and almost everything can be fixed at home w/ the proper tools! Hope you enjoyed
Just thought of some awesome features not working/mentioned. All of the doors and trunk have vacuum close assist in the USA. You can also use the lock on the doors to shut or open all of the windows and the roof from the outside. These cars also came (with a now antinquated) phone system and a 10 disc changer in the trunk. The 1992 and 1993 had the extremely nice Bose beta system with a central ambience tweeter on the rear view mirror. The back panel under the rear window only has the subwoofers so you can play music loud without slamming the rear passengers with music at ear level (the full range drivers are in the rear door.) Video shows midrange and tweeter in front. The components of the bose are frighteningly expensive to replace at the dealer (the seperate rear bose amplifier is around $2000 US.) You could buy a small car back then for what the stereo components cost in this car. These cars defined overkill and the 1992 and 1993 have all of the features (later models stripped down.) And this is just the base model (some of the top one came with a refrigorator in the center rear seat armrest, plus power bucket seats in the back I believe.) Some of the diesel models also have a glass moonroof and a limited slip differential for the rear wheel drive. The rear sunshade on these vehicle is a rare option in the 300SD. The 1992 and 1993 300SD and 300SE, plus 1994 and 1995 versions were short bodies. Believe the short body was done away with in 1996 along with the diesel engine option in the US.
Hi, I am aware of all of these features, 1. this particular vehicle does have the vacuum close doors and trunk, but it is very hit and miss, I've only seen it work once 2. on the wireless key, it you hold down the button for more than 3 sec . the windows and the roof will automatically close 3. The phone system wasn't present in this car but I am aware of it. 4. I do not have the 10 disc changer but I have seen other cars with it 5. The Bose sound system does seem very high quality but unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the sound amp. in the trunk, (If anyone knows how to fix these please let me know!) 6. I do not believe that the W140 diesel came with the fridge or the power seats I believe that only the 600SEL V12 had that option and I've also never heard of a diesel with a GLASS moonroof, (hence why they call it a moonroof ;)) Thanks for the comment!
The "REST" button is actually for when the engine is off, it uses the remainder of the engine heat to keep the interior warm in the winter, or cool if summer.
ive had several Mercedes diesels including a W123 300D (euro, 5 speed). Apart from obvious routine maintenance the car was trouble free and as bulletproof as I profess they are.

No problem, when I say fuel, I mean diesel. As this car is a rod bender the oil flows out of it like crazy, but we are in the process of switching out the engine to the block of an OM606.
I have 93 300 SE n my radio keep saying Wait. Also the person I bought it from used 87 instead of 91 or 93 n it had a stutter when hitting gas. Is that cuz of bad gas
I have heard of this issue, they say that European Gas is better than the one in North America, we were told by the mechanic that the diesel is much lower quality, may be the same for petrol.
Nothing besides the rod bending... that is an ongoing project however the car still runs decently fine and is usable day to day. Unfortunately we live in an area where there aren't a lot of mechanics that deal with Merc. Diesels so we are in a bit of a rut trying to get the engine fixed.
That is a good question. The car was purchased in that state. You are probably referring to the plastic grill which doesn't really affect the performance of the speaker but esthetically it isn't very pleasing I agree.
Nice to see young ones interested in older cars like these. It makes me so happy that these cars can still be appreciated by them. 😊
I live in japan@ I hope purchase Black W140 S600L

Hello, she has great fuel economy, but she burns oil like crazy!
thank you
No problem, when I say fuel, I mean diesel. As this car is a rod bender the oil flows out of it like crazy, but we are in the process of switching out the engine to the block of an OM606.
Good job, keep it up.
Thank you
This car has more features than the International Space Station... I miss mines
Over engineered that's for sure :) What kind di u have?

Thank you!

OOO they are very rare only 1400 sold in USA
Lucky i have the 1997 Mercedes e class it would be cool to have a w140 in the drive way. And how old are you, im 14
Hey, Ali, I'm 15. My family is in the process of purchasing a 1999 W211 E-250 waggon.
Wow...didnt know there was a w140 SD version sold in America
I have 93 300 SE n my radio keep saying Wait. Also the person I bought it from used 87 instead of 91 or 93 n it had a stutter when hitting gas.
Is that cuz of bad gas
I have heard of this issue, they say that European Gas is better than the one in North America, we were told by the mechanic that the diesel is much lower quality, may be the same for petrol.
Any mechanical problems with the car since this video?
Nothing besides the rod bending... that is an ongoing project however the car still runs decently fine and is usable day to day. Unfortunately we live in an area where there aren't a lot of mechanics that deal with Merc. Diesels so we are in a bit of a rut trying to get the engine fixed.
Why is your mid-range speaker on the driverdoor destroyed?
That is a good question. The car was purchased in that state.
You are probably referring to the plastic grill which doesn't really affect the performance of the speaker but esthetically it isn't very pleasing I agree.
