Company of Heroes was amazing and is one of my favs. Here is a doozy for you. Anyone remember Kohan? Still my fav RTS of all time. I have all three original CDs. Great series
DUNE II defined the genre. I played it again more than 10 years later, and with its old graphics and one by one unit movements, it was still epic to play. This game became cult. Westwood Studios created RTS. EA bought the genre and fucked it up.
Sasuke Uchiha i played all the missions and the only hard part is the earlygame. It is easy to build castles the AI can´t destroy and you can also abuse the economy to get lots of gold realy fast
***** Yes, but can you hold yourself against both lion heart and everyone against you? i don't know, i cannot do that, first off, he's too fast because his army getting done in no time, second, if you made like 7 armies against you, your chances are 0. Oh and the last mission is like a hell.
Supremme Commander, Homeworld, Rise of Nations & Company of Heroes were really innovative. Starcraft2 felt like a regression to Red Alert 2 style games.
Jason Dougenis I dont think that thats an RTS. To me "real time" seems to mean that seconds are shown as seconds, while in CK2 and EU4 seconds represent days.
@@Maximilian-Robespierre but I listed StarCraft II if you didn't notice :) But personally I didn't like the first game as much. The same applies for WarCraft II. Generally those early RTS'es suffered from poorer storytelling, navigation, unit control, etc. That's why I have a preference for those newer games. Maybe an exception goes to C&C4 and SupCom2 as those games had a very serious regres in quality regarding gameplay.
Can't agree more here guys! I love(d) so much this game. I've been looking for an alternative ever since ! Trying the Black & white series, Spore, Godus etc. til The Universim which is supposed to be release this year. So far, Populous hasn't been beaten yet
SPi Hell! if EA never bought Westwood... Red alert 3 Would've been Better than the crap it's now! And maybe... Just maybe... we would've had Red Alert 4...
You know I did not even pay attention that it was no more westwood that developed RA3, but I finally found with this video why I bought RA3, played two missions and stopped there to go back to RA1 & 2. RA 1, too good, the RTS of my kid days, too much nostalgia I cannot handle it. and then RA 2, also so damn good. Yuri's revenge was cool too.
Dune 2... the most hours I spent with. Then Warcraft 2/3, Starcraft. C&C: Red Alert 2, and of course C&C: Generals. The 3D remake of Dune was awesome too. Homeworld 1/2 had incredible story. Sins of a Solar Empire is good but the limit of units killed it for me. Supreme Commander was good but too heavy at the time.
Eduard Karesli You do know that Sins has hundreds of mods for it right? There are dozens that do nothing but alter the unit caps to the point where the game can't handle it. There is a star wars mod for Sins that lets you use all of your absurd number of resource points in the unit cap to make nothing but capital ships. I have had the game crash in late game on huge maps with the max number of players just because the game can't process all the ships/fighter at the same time.
Compagny of Heros is an absolutly mindblowing great game. I have played it since 2006 and still do. So way ahead of its time there still is no other rts that comes close. Amazing gameplay, great balance and maps maps maps! Thank you relic!!
r2darky an expansion.. forfucksake its better then EAs c&c generals 2 that was canceled they almost changed everything about the game. just try it for urself if u like rts games...
+akar siaman quitewhining How can you know that Gens/ZH is bette4r then the gens 2 game? Did you go to closed alpha for it? I doubt you did. l've go the fist decade pak for CnC an d l'm awaiting AoA... -_-
Very glad that Homeworld and especially Red Alert 2 made it one the list. RA2 was probably my first actual video game (not too sure about it, but I think so) and I loved it so freakin' much. In this sense: KIROV REPORTING
AoE II and C&C Red Alert have a special place in my heart. I also had some fun with planetary annihilation titans. I might have to try Starcraft one day..
I prefer the Command & Conquer Tiberium series over the Red Alert series. CNC3 was a masterpiece of an RTS. Fast-paced gameplay, three fun single player campaigns to get used to the units and buildings of the three factions (The Global Defense Initiative, The Brotherhood of Nod, and The Scrin), and tons of fun maps, Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars still has an active competitive scene, with players using absolutely insane tactics when looked on by a casual player like myself. C'mon, Star Wars: Empire at War wasn't even an honorable mention? Not only is it the definitive Star Wars RTS, with the ability to control the full might of both the Empire and the Rebellion, up to and including the Death Star, the gameplay is very polished, and each faction has its different strengths and weaknesses. To this day, I still enjoy booting up the game and doing some Space Skirmishes. Speaking of Star Wars, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds is a ton of fun. Sure, it's essentially a Star Wars-skinned Age of Empires, but it's still a great game.
Jacob Gale Command and Conquer 3 is published by EA and it's a solid RTS. Based off what I've read of previous entries in the Tiberium series, CNC3 takes a lot of good aspects from previous games, gives them nice new graphics, updates their utility, and then throws the Scrin into the mix.
I actually started playing Supreme Commander and I have to say that such a large map and so many units to take control of is pretty challenging for me. But I'm enjoying it.
i will be fair and say that i have not played too many RTS games asides from the well known ones, but Empire Earth is by far my favorite one. I have played it consistently for at least a decade now. fantastic game
I was so happy that Dawn of War was on this list... It is my all time favorite and I thought nobody gave it any recognition or credit - Thank you Watchmojo :D
Me too plus the great modding community behind Dawn of War:Soulstorm with cool mods like ultimate apocalypse which is the coolest mod for that game ever
It's an epic mod - you can't not like having Titans... and I love the Daemonhunt mod too :D Somebody even went as far as to make their own campaign for the first Dawn of War called The Fall of Cyrene, check that out on FileFront ;)
Joshua Littau I know right - such a great game! I was thinking of making a video of it to add to my channel but some of the levels can take up to an hour to pass. If you've got any suggestions let me know :)
starcraft 2 in the first Place ?... oh well its my own opinion but seriously if u look at how starcraft 2 is played its 99% the same way and if u dont obey that rule there is no coming back u lose. When thinking Command and conquer generals zero hour was the best RTS of times. U could rush and u could defend but the best part not 1 singel match looked the same and u could make a comeback
Generals Zero Hour mods like Shockwave take the cake for me adding in three new generals and alot of new maps. Hell Zero Hour is still getting mods for it to this day
Check Rise of the Reds, they're planning to get 15 Generals as they add 2 new factions with 3 generals each and created 3 new generals generals for the orignal 3 factions.
True the Commandos series was awesome, but I think it really doesn't belong in this list. Its more like a birdview-tactics-simulation and has mechanics more similar to a turn based game than a strategy game. I'm pretty ok with this list (since Broodwar was an expansion). Watch mojo please, do no forget Jagged Alliance 2 on the turn based list!
i loved both titles but i had more fun with WC3's online custom battles but at some point from 2009 to 2011 the game just died all servers are just bot hosts and now only latins play
C&C Generals: Zero Hour is the best C&C game made. This is from someone who played all of the earliest 12 C&C games, aswell as C&C 3:Tiberium Wars (which is second fan favorite after Generals).
Craig Biddulph Tell yourself that, it is still, & will always be, the overall fan favorite C&C game. Not saying the originals are bad, because they're not, but generals sweeps the floor.
TimpsterTheDude As good a RTS game as it is, it bears no resemblance to C&C and has no elements of the storyline of the other games. It's set in an entirely different universe.
+Essex Class LoL my brother did that once in a match we've played, but he didn't see the count down and didn't see that the pc opponents launched the last available nuclear missile!
Ah red alert 2! The game that made me get up at 6 to play before school and play late into the night... You know your in deep when a game actually starts making you ill...
It's the worst game I've ever had the displeasure of putting myself through. Only played it for 2 days before tossing it out. People think Stronghold 3 killed the series? Nope. Stronghold Shit Atrocity killed the series beyond repairs.
Company of Heroes (the original) is my number one RTS. It never degenerates to a click fest. It is thinking person's game, where you must always be looking ahead a few steps. Moreover you don't have to memorize complex build orders (as you must in AoE and Starcraft if you ever want to be competitive). Plus personally I find the World War 2 setting easier to relate to than the more sci-fi or fantasty games on this list. Second on my list would be a toss up between Age of Empires 2 and Rise of Nations. I do understand, however, why starcraft is most popular as an E-Sport. It requires greater speed and dexterity than the other games.
Yeaah..there is no resources in COH. You dont take sectors in order to get ammo/fuel/manpower. NO NO thats not the case.IDIOT. You dont build buildings in order to build units. NO NO.. IDIOT. Looks like you are fuckin noob who never played any of those games. I played both and overall concept is the same. Wargame is more into realistic portrayal of battlefield. Def. not for everybody, and def. not for COH fanboys where tanks shoot each other 20 m apart LOL
sharky0922 The overall concept is the same? Yes they are both RTS games. Is that your point? That's a given considering the video you have chosen to add your comments to. In Company of Heroes you don't actively manage the resources (well hardly at all), whereas in old school RTS games active resource management is as important as military management. Within the genre of RTS you could hardly get two more different games than Company of Heroes and Starcraft. But you are right that Company of Heroes is not a realistic portrayal of the battlefield, just as Age of Empires 2 is not an accurate portrayal of the middle ages. But they're not supposed to be. Ultimately they are games, they are an abstraction. Do you actually like any of the games on this list or are you just trolling? Why does it bother you so much that a complete stranger likes a game that you don't like? I am guessing you are high school kid.
Harry Flashman You are right on this point with "actively managing resources". But the rest of the gameplay is exactly the same thing, point and click game. COH is Starcraft for ww2 genre with some differences like you pointed out about resources and others. You cant deny that. I like total war series, age of empires 2, and they mention my first RTS/game I wanted to play = Total Annihilation. No Im not trolling , just dont understand this top 10. While Wargame series had 3 games and sold more than 1 million games is not mentioned here at all. You guessed wrong. Im playing games since Total Anihilation, I had pc with those big floppy disks. I'm pretty old.
sharky0922 I will concede this, having just checked out Wargame, by comparison to that game, CoH and Starcraft are similar. But they are both old games, When CoH first came out the difference seemed more profound (at least they did to me, especially as CoH was the first Relic game that I experienced). Wargame is new.I can see it is a very different sort of RTS game. It looks intriguing, if a bit overwhelming. According to a review I just watched it has 1400 different types of units! That is intense. I can see that that game is trying to be more realistic. Which is fine, but realism isn't everything. Chess for example is a great game, but nobody would complain that it is not realistic enough.
Realism its not everything, of course but some sort of realism is needed and preferred by most players. Best examples is this : Ruse - 1 game, Wargame - 3 games, Both using same engine, same concept, but one is more realistic than the other. Thanks for conversation. Now fuck you COH fanboy :PPP
I got into Command and Conquer towards the tail end of the series, through my dad’s copies of Generals, Red Alert 3, and Tiberius Wars. I need to try Red Alert 2 one of these days.
I was sad to see you all didn't even give a mention to "Total Annihilation Kingdoms"... I bought this game for just a few bucks by accident years ago. And it turned into a massive addiction for months! I loved that game from Cavedog back in the day!
My list: #1 company of heroes #2 rise of nations #3 battle realms #4 star craft #5 stronghold crusader #6 empire earth 2 #7 age of empires 2 #8 warcraft 3 #9 cnc generals #10 act of war honorable mentions: settlers 4, emperor battle for dune, europa universalis 4, cossacks, gangland, spellforce, darwinia
+StrayFire Is Settlers 4 really a RTS game? Because in Germany we have a different genre name for it ("Aufbauspiel"), because the focus is more on buildung than fighting.
+Christian K well, i know what you mean, but i played settlers 4 online and battles were the core mechanic. die siedler hatten schon immer eroberung und kampf als spielelement. aber ich verstehe, was du meinst.
Actor Udo Kier can make any Command & Conqueror game more enjoyable. I found the Yuri units to be a wild card to use as they can take over almost anything.
I remember playing as USA using the teleporting soldiers, while my soldiers were recovering after teleport, the Yuri units picked them up like cherries and made all my stuff vanished in matter of seconds using my soldiers 😂👌🏻
It was fun especially for it being one of the few strategy games on the 360, and what got me into PC gaming. But the E3 trailers for it were far better than what we we're presented with, there would have been alot more freedom to the player.
I never believe the E3 trailers knowing that all they do is try to hype you up into buying the game. I look at game play trailers a few months before the game comes out to see if I still want to buy it.
I would've put Red Alert 2 at number 1 easily, I put countless hours into that game back in the day, it was the first game I REALLY got into online, great memories. The custom maps kept the game fresh for a very long time too.
Kujakuseki01 I have played it again. Still play it today when I gather mates for a lan. The C+C / Red Alert series were the best rts games. But ea had to rape them.
I really think the first StarCraft should be #1, It spawned eSports and revolutionized gaming as a whole. The scene wouldn't be what it is today without it.
I think Warcraft 3 is the greatest real time strategy game of all time it had such a large impact on competitive gaming like WCG, and custom maps like DotA that have become more famous for games like League of Legends, HoN, Dota 2 would not be around if it wasn't for Warcraft 3.
Originally I was going to flip if WC3 wasn't at least #2 (saw SC2 coming from miles away), because I've said for years that it's still the best and most significant RTS ever made, but IMO...strictly as an RTS, it has its flaws. The RPG elements are really the thing that save it and make it such an amazing game, but then you have to ask, where do you draw the line? How much credit can you give the non-RTS elements and still rank it as an RTS? That being said, don't get me wrong, it still deserves to be on this list and high up at that, but I can sort of understand why other things succeeded it.
Turnt SNACO I don't. The hero element in Warcraft 3 including the leveling, creeping, choosing hero abilities, using items.. that's what makes Warcraft 3 stand out above the rest. It's so much more complex and fun than SC2, it just leaves room for so much creativity that SC2 just doesn't. Warcraft 3 to me is one of the best games ever made. period
FUCK THAT SHIT! I couldn't build a fucking town! I needed food but couldn't get my people safe so i had to build hung platforms but then they were sad so I had to build some happy thing but then I had no men to work so I couldn't do anything
I am very surprised that no one talks about Command & Conquer: zero hour or Cossacks European Wars. Those two games are by far the best without contest in my opinion. ( and I’ve played a lot of strategy games )
darth Vattas my lord, I said 1 of the best, dune 2 and warcraft 2 were the pioneers of the gender and for me the top 2, starcraft 1, 2, EoA 2 and CoH are the best 7
This list needed: Stronghold (+crusaders expansion), Star Wars Empire at War and World in Conflict I would have replaced Shogun 2 with the original Rome Total War, because that game was the one that got the franchise really popular

you must place that in a power field.
want a piece of me, boy?
identify target.
Where's Empire Earth? You shittin me? Oh well guess you cant have everything.
***** man i had to scroll down waaay to long before EE even got mentioned :(
Bananana I feel you bro :(
+Poorgunz Empire Earth was great, I loved it. I still fire it up sometimes. Way better than Age of Empires.
Why would I? I just got upset because Empire Earth is a great game. I don't criticize Them for not putting it on the list even if it sounded like it.
All hail EE!! Although Ill admit the offline experience is pretty bad. Online is the greatest game ever tho!
Company of Heroes was amazing and is one of my favs. Here is a doozy for you. Anyone remember Kohan? Still my fav RTS of all time. I have all three original CDs. Great series
greyfox37 Never heard of, dude.
+greyfox37 i like CH too, but Men of War is more realistic in my opinion.
+greyfox37 COH1 is the best 2. is RED Alert 2 .
+greyfox37 Kohan 2 Kings of War was pretty good a bunch of RTS games ripped off its mechanics after its release.
I have yet to try CoH but Men of War is a good game.
3:44 goose bumps when I hear that siren and Hell march 2
reminds me of behing a kid, i thought it was so cool when i finally learned how to download the original from limewire!
*kirov reporting*
@@neva7237 i though soldiers where dropped by kirovs xD
How did Dune II only get an honourable mention? It pretty much defined the genre!
you and i, my fellow youtuber, are on the same wavelength
Exactly!!!
Good old times! xD
Shogun 2 should have been #1 with Warlords Battlecry 3 as 2nd.
anything Dune is just crap
DUNE II defined the genre. I played it again more than 10 years later, and with its old graphics and one by one unit movements, it was still epic to play. This game became cult. Westwood Studios created RTS. EA bought the genre and fucked it up.
No "Stronghold crusade"?
Wow...Epic failure.
if you ask me Stronghold Crusader is too easy and no strategy is needed. But still it is realy fun
*****
Too easy when you put the chart on hard and making everyone against you? nah, But it really is fun.
Sasuke Uchiha i played all the missions and the only hard part is the earlygame. It is easy to build castles the AI can´t destroy and you can also abuse the economy to get lots of gold realy fast
*****
Yes, but can you hold yourself against both lion heart and everyone against you? i don't know, i cannot do that, first off, he's too fast because his army getting done in no time, second, if you made like 7 armies against you, your chances are 0. Oh and the last mission is like a hell.
Sasuke Uchiha i did them all. Think only 2 or 3 where realy challenging. But if you use moat and traps early on, you will be safe.
Command and Conquer!!
TheGore1021
Tiberian Sun should have been mentioned at least.
tiberium wars
yeah man
"I'll build anywhere"
*tries to place strategy center*
"Can't build there, sir"
Supremme Commander, Homeworld, Rise of Nations & Company of Heroes were really innovative. Starcraft2 felt like a regression to Red Alert 2 style games.
Crusader Kings 2 is technically a real time strategy and is way better than most of this list.
Jason Dougenis I dont think that thats an RTS. To me "real time" seems to mean that seconds are shown as seconds, while in CK2 and EU4 seconds represent days.
I guess we can not call it an RTS since there is a pause option.
Jason Dougenis But LOTR BFME series will always win
Tj Smith Moria multiplayer mod is op
Edain Mod for Battle for Middleearth || RotW is the best Game (although they deleted free building mode and switch to that one from bfM |)
My list:
- Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
- Age of Mythology (+The Titans)
- Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (+Kane's Wrath)
- Command & Conquer Generals (+Zero Hour)
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 (+Yuri's Revenge)
- Dungeon Keeper
- Dungeon Keeper 2
- Ground Control (+Dark Conspiracy)
- Ground Control II: Operation Exodus
- StarCraft II (trilogy)
- Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
- Total Annihilation
- War for the Overworld
- WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos (+The Frozen Throne)
To leave DK out is at least strange.
You played stacraft and you didn't like it?
@@Maximilian-Robespierre but I listed StarCraft II if you didn't notice :) But personally I didn't like the first game as much. The same applies for WarCraft II. Generally those early RTS'es suffered from poorer storytelling, navigation, unit control, etc. That's why I have a preference for those newer games. Maybe an exception goes to C&C4 and SupCom2 as those games had a very serious regres in quality regarding gameplay.
Populous: The Beginning is an often overlooked game that should have gotten at least an honorable mention, I think more people should know about it.
I agree with u man...
POPOLOUS THE BEGINING was the best..
Can't agree more here guys! I love(d) so much this game. I've been looking for an alternative ever since ! Trying the Black & white series, Spore, Godus etc. til The Universim which is supposed to be release this year. So far, Populous hasn't been beaten yet
Don't forget Dune 2000 from Westwood Studios. That was the game that made me fall in love with RTS games.
Man I still play that game on my PS1. Love it!
Star Wars Empire at War and the whole Stronghold franchise must be included if you ask me, they are great!
RA2 is the best RTS game ever made IMO.
Yes it was.. xwis is still alive ☺
Finally some RA2 fans :D
SPi Hell! if EA never bought Westwood... Red alert 3 Would've been Better than the crap it's now! And maybe... Just maybe... we would've had Red Alert 4...
At least some people like me still likes red alert 2. :)
TwistedIdiot02 No I didn't know that.
Will download them and try.
Thanks for the info.
Compagny of Heros is an absolutly mindblowing great game.
I have played it since 2006 and still do. So way ahead of its time there still is no other rts that comes close.
Amazing gameplay, great balance and maps maps maps!
Thank you relic!!
Did I see Red Alert in the thumbnail? Video worth watching.
what about generals zero hour?!
עמית ביטון gen zero hour with rise of the reds mod is the best rts game
+akar siaman actually its an expansion..
r2darky an expansion.. forfucksake its better then EAs c&c generals 2 that was canceled they almost changed everything about the game.
just try it for urself if u like rts games...
+akar siaman quitewhining How can you know that Gens/ZH is bette4r then the gens 2 game? Did you go to closed alpha for it? I doubt you did. l've go the fist decade pak for CnC an d l'm awaiting AoA... -_-
+akar siaman also gens/zh multiplayer is dead..
Very glad that Homeworld and especially Red Alert 2 made it one the list. RA2 was probably my first actual video game (not too sure about it, but I think so) and I loved it so freakin' much. In this sense: KIROV REPORTING
best lines are from soviets...specially kirovs, desolators and apocalypse tanks
Should have mention, Generals: Zero Hour and Battle Realms
Yeah zero hour
AoE II and C&C Red Alert have a special place in my heart. I also had some fun with planetary annihilation titans.
I might have to try Starcraft one day..
QCpowarr
Starcraft is waaay more micro
I prefers the generals command and conquer game
I hate that I can't get Red Alert 2 to work on win 10 or the first Red Alert
U can try running some VM with winXP to run them, probably will work
Windows 98 compatibility mode for Red Alert 2 works fine for me.
+jedimasterpickle3 FunFact: Command and Conquer 1995 AKA: Tiberian Dawn Has just turned 20 years old
Jacob Gale CNC 4 just looks dumb. I've got no idea why they took out actual base building.
CNC3 Tib wars and Kanes Wrath are the best CNC games ever made
+SiiKLiiD II True!
I actually started playing Supreme Commander and I have to say that such a large map and so many units to take control of is pretty challenging for me. But I'm enjoying it.
Rise of Nations and Age of Empires 2 are the best for me. Simplicity and Historical gameplay truly gold
Age of Empires II! So much nostalgia, one of the greatest video games of all time.
No one like Empire Earth 1?
i will be fair and say that i have not played too many RTS games asides from the well known ones, but Empire Earth is by far my favorite one. I have played it consistently for at least a decade now. fantastic game
Empire Earth 2 over 1. The AI in EE1 was broken.
i am 14 years old, but i play every weekend EE 2 vd my brother and it still makes fun. after long 6 years im playing this.
Art of Supremacy?
I know I was so pissed when it wasn't even an honourable mention, that game as amazing.
I'm just sad it wasn't higher
Warzone 2100 deserves a honorable mention for its insane number of unit type combinations. It's since become completely free and open source.
Agreed i was playing that not to long ago tho the pc i had it on kinda died on me so it was unfortunate.
Missed a few nuggets there:
> Star Wars: Empire at War
> Dungeon Keeper 2
> Majesty (Gold HD)
And the original Age of Empires
I still play Majesty :D
Joshua Littau I know right - such a great game! I was thinking of making a video of it to add to my channel but some of the levels can take up to an hour to pass. If you've got any suggestions let me know :)
All the levels with cheats :D
starcraft 2 in the first Place ?... oh well its my own opinion but seriously if u look at how starcraft 2 is played its 99% the same way and if u dont obey that rule there is no coming back u lose. When thinking Command and conquer generals zero hour was the best RTS of times. U could rush and u could defend but the best part not 1 singel match looked the same and u could make a comeback
Amen. Zero Hours will always be my most favorite RTS game from my childhood to adulthood.
i'm guessing you're gold league or lower? you don't seem to understand the game very well
I liked Generals. Had a good storyline and nice gameplay.
World in Conflict was a damn good game. It at least deserved an honorable mention.
Tzar: The Burden of the Crown
C&C Generals Zero Hour
Mihai Pangratie it should be number one just for its fucking soundtrack alone.
too bad its like impossible to run
Oh man, I forgot about Zero Hour! GG
Slavik no
Mihai Pangratie "can I have some shoes"
age of empire, red alert, war craft, LOTR,love those games, childhood memories
Command and Conquer generals zero hour is my favorite.
Age of Empires franchise made me fall in love with RTS Games. ❤️😍❤️
My favs are Commandos 2 and Age of Mythology. Good old times.
True the Commandos series was awesome, but I think it really doesn't belong in this list. Its more like a birdview-tactics-simulation and has mechanics more similar to a turn based game than a strategy game. I'm pretty ok with this list (since Broodwar was an expansion). Watch mojo please, do no forget Jagged Alliance 2 on the turn based list!
sup com should be further up this list. forged alliance still has a huge player base with regular tournaments
Still my favorite game.
Forged Alliance Forever is an example of the community saving a good game and bettering it
The best game I've ever played in this genre is C&C Generals: Zero hour
I agree 👍
i agree with you
100% agree
Try stronghold : Crusader,, It is worth it too
Generals really awesome . i just love it
Gonna give a shoutout to “Stronghold: Crusader”
Person A: "Age of Empires"
Person B: "WarCraft"
Person A: "Wololo!"
Person B: "Age of Empires"
Wololoooooooooooooooooooooooo!
i loved both titles but i had more fun with WC3's online custom battles but at some point from 2009 to 2011 the game just died all servers are just bot hosts and now only latins play
Roggan?
Person C: "Command & Conquer"
Person D: "Yes"
Person A and B: "Age of Empires"
Person C and D: **Mind control**
Everyone: "Command & Conquer"
Tiberian Sun, for me, is the greatest C&C type game ever made.
The best comment on here. Tiberian Sun/Firestorm should have been top 3.
C&C Generals: Zero Hour is the best C&C game made. This is from someone who played all of the earliest 12 C&C games, aswell as C&C 3:Tiberium Wars (which is second fan favorite after Generals).
TimpsterTheDude Generals may have borne the C&C title, but it was not a C&C game.
Shame you forgot SW: Empire At War, but still, good list.
Sins of a solar empire should have had way more than an honorable mention. FANTASTIC GAME.
*Populous the Beginning?*
Great game....
Oh dear, that game was awesome
Populous 3 the beginning was outstanding game
SETTLERS
best one
Where is generals
Generals was made by the same people who made Red alert 2 (became eventually) and they could only have one game per company.
No. Just one game per franchise. Generals was C&C.
Red Alert is actually a part of the Command and Conquer series. :)
they put 3 relic games...
c/c generals is on the list, its on 20th place
I was surprised when Rise of Nations was on the list (one of my favourite games)
(sarcasm) ME TOO I HATE THAT GAME (/sarcasm)
+gabriel ferraz Hate that game when someone ends it with armageddon instead of honorably losing
Essex Class wow ikr? So frustrating
+Essex Class You can prevent that in options before the game starts I guess?
+Essex Class LoL my brother did that once in a match we've played, but he didn't see the count down and didn't see that the pc opponents launched the last available nuclear missile!
Lord of the rings battle for Middle earth 2 was perfection
Yes
Ah red alert 2! The game that made me get up at 6 to play before school and play late into the night... You know your in deep when a game actually starts making you ill...
No Stronghold Crusader?
Keep it scrubs.
+Nicholas Longinsky Crusader was GARBAGE in comparison to Legends.
Evan Czarkowski Honestly, your life is garbage if your prefer Legends to Crusader, m8
Legends brought SO many additions to the Stronghold series. Why more people dont love that is beyond me.
And dont even GET ME STARTED on the atrocity that was Crusader Extreme.
It's the worst game I've ever had the displeasure of putting myself through. Only played it for 2 days before tossing it out.
People think Stronghold 3 killed the series? Nope.
Stronghold Shit Atrocity killed the series beyond repairs.
No game from the "Stronghold" franchise. Eh.
Well can't argue with your statement SH2 one of my favorite games of all time
nah man stronghold crusader is the best
My best to worst list goes like this:
1. Stronghold Crusader
2. Stronghold 2
3. Stronghold
4. Stronghold Crusader II
5. Stronghold Legends
6. Stronghold Crusader Extreme
7. Stronghold 3
8. Stronghold Kingdoms
those are city builder, no RTS
Philipp Ludwig stronghold are RTS. city builder are such as SimCity, Anno, etc
5 RTS games I love the most
5. C&C Red Alert 2
4. C&C Generals
3. Starcraft
2. C&C Red Alert
1. Starcraft 2
Same!
Stronghold???????
So glad I'm not the ony one.
"Can't place that there mi'lord."
That's what I thought!
Austin Snider
Stronghold FTW
Austin Snider I fucking hated that so much!
tommy karl wood needed.
Came just to see if Starcraft was #1. Not disappointed.
same
Starcraft 1 more better that starcraft 2...
Best examples is this :
Ruse - 1 game,
Wargame - 3 games,
Both using same engine, same concept, but one is more realistic than the other.
Thanks for conversation.
Now fuck you COH fanboy :PPP
I got into Command and Conquer towards the tail end of the series, through my dad’s copies of Generals, Red Alert 3, and Tiberius Wars. I need to try Red Alert 2 one of these days.
Command & Conquer series FTW!
I was sad to see you all didn't even give a mention to "Total Annihilation Kingdoms"... I bought this game for just a few bucks by accident years ago. And it turned into a massive addiction for months! I loved that game from Cavedog back in the day!
I herd of that one but i have the original total anilation.
Im sure that one is just as good.
My list:
#1 company of heroes
#2 rise of nations
#3 battle realms
#4 star craft
#5 stronghold crusader
#6 empire earth 2
#7 age of empires 2
#8 warcraft 3
#9 cnc generals
#10 act of war
honorable mentions: settlers 4, emperor battle for dune, europa universalis 4, cossacks, gangland, spellforce, darwinia
+StrayFire Crusader is NOT the best stronghold game.
Play Legends, then we'll talk. :3
+StrayFire Is Settlers 4 really a RTS game? Because in Germany we have a different genre name for it ("Aufbauspiel"), because the focus is more on buildung than fighting.
+Evan Czarkowski i hated legends. sorry buddy
+Christian K well, i know what you mean, but i played settlers 4 online and battles were the core mechanic. die siedler hatten schon immer eroberung und kampf als spielelement. aber ich verstehe, was du meinst.
you ment empire earth 1 because people prefer 1 more than 2 -_- have you ever played empire earth?
Actor Udo Kier can make any Command & Conqueror game more enjoyable. I found the Yuri units to be a wild card to use as they can take over almost anything.
I remember playing as USA using the teleporting soldiers, while my soldiers were recovering after teleport, the Yuri units picked them up like cherries and made all my stuff vanished in matter of seconds using my soldiers 😂👌🏻
wow. Age of mythology go just an honorable mention? That game deserves way more that that
Red alert 3: You know your dead when you see 23 enemy Kirovs coming towards you.
Ra3 Kirovs are shit
Still, 4 or 5 can take quite a few buildings out.
ra2 kirovs are where its at
you know your dead when 23 ra2 kirovs come at you. or when the enemy somehow got cow ifvs.
Cow IFVS? wut
Well better than 23 giga fortress xd
Age of Empires II
Starcraft II
Age of mythology, in of curse age of empires saga
Age was my fav untill Company of Heroes, only games i even play on pc
i agree, AoE 2... the best !
Shogun 2 should have been #1 with Warlords Battlecry 3 as 2nd.
Dawn of war and it’s expansions were amazing
C&C: Red alert 2 is the best!
Yip, so many memories of hours spend having fun playing against the AI or some friends. Good times. And lets not forget the awesome soundtrack.
Aviation Gaming you can make maps for red alert 2 and yuri’s revenge with final alert 2
& Yuri's Revenge
Try mental Omega yuri's revenge expansion pack, its absolute free and excellent units.....
And the tiberian sun
I loved Halo Wars, it's a shame that it never was released for PC.
Only Halo 1 and 2 were released on pc, I think
most underrated game ever
It was fun especially for it being one of the few strategy games on the 360, and what got me into PC gaming. But the E3 trailers for it were far better than what we we're presented with, there would have been alot more freedom to the player.
I never believe the E3 trailers knowing that all they do is try to hype you up into buying the game. I look at game play trailers a few months before the game comes out to see if I still want to buy it.
Even the demo looked better than the actual game itself
I would've put Red Alert 2 at number 1 easily, I put countless hours into that game back in the day, it was the first game I REALLY got into online, great memories. The custom maps kept the game fresh for a very long time too.
Try it again. Doesn't hold up. You're thinking with your Nostalgia.
Kujakuseki01 I have played it again. Still play it today when I gather mates for a lan. The C+C / Red Alert series were the best rts games. But ea had to rape them.
Kujakuseki01 RA2 still holds up fine. Been playing it on and off for the 14ish years.
Red alert was good but dark reign 2 was so much better
I really think the first StarCraft should be #1, It spawned eSports and revolutionized gaming as a whole. The scene wouldn't be what it is today without it.
Heeeey that's basically what i said, you said it 3 years earlier on purpose >:(
1 - Age of empires 2
2 - Age Of Mythology: The Titans
3 - Rise Of Nations Gold
Warcraft 3 to me is one of the best games ever made. period
Stronghold anyone?
Stronghold Crusader is the best game ever
Stronghold Crusader is in my opinion the best game of all time
Wood needed :)
FUCK THAT SHIT!
I couldn't build a fucking town!
I needed food but couldn't get my people safe so i had to build hung platforms but then they were sad so I had to build some happy thing but then I had no men to work so I couldn't do anything
+magnusm4 Lmao dude
I am very surprised that no one talks about Command & Conquer: zero hour or Cossacks European Wars. Those two games are by far the best without contest in my opinion. ( and I’ve played a lot of strategy games )
Exactly they should have mentioned Generals the modern strategy game ever
Those were pretty cool.
They could of also mentioned kknd to
Homeworld is one of the best strategies in human history
it should have been higher.
nope,starcraft 2 #1 now
darth Vattas my lord, I said 1 of the best,
dune 2 and warcraft 2 were the pioneers of the gender and for me the top 2, starcraft 1, 2, EoA 2 and CoH are the best 7
ja
wunderbar
Age of Mythology and Red Alert 2
I prefered tiberian sun
This list needed: Stronghold (+crusaders expansion), Star Wars Empire at War and World in Conflict
I would have replaced Shogun 2 with the original Rome Total War, because that game was the one that got the franchise really popular
I have a copy of the rome
2:31 "featuring expansive maps where your wepons aren't just your soldier on the field, but also diplomacy, off the field."
