The reason behind it is if they are proven true later, for a period of time, it was myth. It does not changed the hype and community at that time was probably their approach to it all.
I still remember the interview with Ed Boon where he talked about running into some kid in the arcade that swore up and down that his brother knew Kano's secret Eye-Laser Fatality in MK1. Even after telling the kid who he was and that he had actually made the game, the kid still insisted the Eye-Laser Fatality was real.
Boy, I really thought the Triforce hidden in Ocarina of Time would've topped this list. I remember spending weeks trying every trick I came across because somebody online was "totally serious, dude. My brother tried it and it totally worked. For realsies."
I meant ET, a bit of a mistake, but yeah, really. Here is your daily dose of proof: www.cnet.com/pictures/buried-no-more-atari-et-games-dug-up-pictures/
Live bodies float because of the air in their lungs as well as how much body fat they have. Dead bodies only float if they've started to decompose, and released certain gases into the body
the reason dead body float isn't a fast thing infact it normally happens after the bodys ensides have began decaying filling the human skin with gases much like a really wierld human balloon
The biggest myth I've ever heard. Somebody told me a looong time ago that Goku was an unlockable character in the original Super Smash Bros for N64. What a waste of time it was trying to unlock him.
I like how the Mew myth is partially referenced in Red and Blue's remakes FireRed and LeafGreen in which instead of finding Mew if you surf to the truck, you can find a Rare Candy.
Funny thing is, you can actually get Mew from a different exploit in Red & Blue. Requires a bit of planning ahead, but gen 1 mew is better than it is in later games. It can learn everything, naturally learns transform, and has stats that make it on par with Mewtwo- not as hard hitting, but faster and better def.
Everyone who was born in 1990-1995 will tell you so many stories about the Mew truck myth. I was told you can only move the truck once you have caught all 150 Pokemon, You needed a pokemon who was level 100 that new strength, You needed to catch missingno. There were so many myths about this idea, it was insane.
but with catching missingno you could actually copy pokemons. i had 6 mewtwos back then.. but i dunno how it worked anymore.. sth. like the 6th pokemon in your bag was the one that got copied.. but i dont remember anymore
The one I always heard was it had to be a level 100 Nidoking with strength and had to be leveled without rare candies. I actually believed it when I was a kid.
this sure sounds unbelievable as i am telling this now - facing those many false statemants haha- but i really had this 'bug' of multiple mewtwos.. but that nidoking thing was goin around, too, i remember that, haha :D but i believed that mew thing, too.. could u get the mew on blue/red anyway?
No unfortunately mew couldn't be caught, not legitimately anyway. I used a weird glitch once that involved having a ditto transform into a pokemon with specific stats, then travel to some trainer but save quit and reload before the fight, then find some grass and depending on what the stats were you could get any pokemon. It's how i got all 151 without a cheat cartridge. It's on RUclips somewhere I think.
It's possible to get a lvl7 (if my memory is right) Mew in the first generations. You need not to have beaten the gambler facing the underground path route 8, and the boy facing North with two tees behind him, north of Cerulean City. You also need fly. Go to route 8, at the door of the underground path, go down, while pressing start. Fly to Cerulean City, and go north. Fight the guy facing north, with two trees behind him (need not to have battled him before). You need to have at least one block between him and you, or the game will just freeze. Then, fly to lavender town, go west,. As you leave the twon, the start menu will open : close it and you'll fight a lvl7 Mew. You can get other pokemons (such as a lvl7 Gengar) while fighting other trainers after flying away from the gambler, by fighting different trainers. You must ALWAYS have at least a one block gap between you and the trainer, or the game will freeze, once you flew away from the gambler.
I saw the Urban Myth after this video, sorry. Rattman is totally a Myth, though. he is a confirmed character, and many people have serched the game for evidence about him being in the game itself, and not just in the comic.
I found rattman.... All you have to do is grab 13 c4s and place them near the door in the middle of the underground but on the actual tracks. Then just before a train hits you blow them up. do this twice and you should hear squeaking for about 20 second nonstop. Then you should here a man yell. Go to the intersection where there is a little cabin where rattman will come out and kill you. If this doesn't work blame my friend he showed me on his CPU so it might have been a mod but he showed me his mods file and there was no mods in there
Joaquin Rios They never found them in chile is what im saying you can google it it was in a landfill in new mexico like the theory said i just listed you what county
How bout the myth of the buildings across the water in the Dam level of Goldeneye. You can see them with the sniper rifle when at the towers. I remember people circulating fake footage of being able to cross the water to reach the buildings.
My friend told me that you could unlock Raichu in Super Smash Brothers Melee by collecting all the trophies. Then a Rachu trophy would be available to get in the slot machine at a very low chance. When you got it Raichu would challenge you. I spent months trying to collect all the trophies before my friend told me he was lying...
Noe Alvarez They said "far to impractical to build either of these systems (super computer or for guided missiles) with console components" So unless it was phrased badly I think they're we're saying that it would be ineffective regardless of what console, even though that clearly isn't true.
the Herobrine myth from Minecraft should have at least gotten an honourable mention and a few other ones from my childhood (doubt that they should have gotten on this list, well except for the OoT one): getting the Triforce in Ocarina of Time by glitching under the ice in Zora's Domain, Goldeen using Horn Drill in SSB Melee and fighting Ganondorf in Majora's Mask (dunno how widespread this is one was, it was a HUGE rumour at my school)
If only they had waited a few weeks with this. This should be on a top 10 list of cases of bad timing. This stuff was buried for decades and they feature it in a list a month before it is resolved

Wasn’t there a rumor that in the original Pokémon games if you pressed a bunch of random buttons You can fly somewhere where you could buy every single Pokémon
Actually, about Luigi in Super Mario 64, he was originally going to appear in a 2-player mode. Said mode was dropped when they ran into issues within the game, but they planned to revive it with the Nintendo 64DD....that add-on bombed HARD.
I'm actually glad there was no official way to resurrect Aerith. If there was, it would completely undermine the horrible, unexpected tragedy of a character everyone loved that was the primary love interest for the first disc suddenly dying. It ended up becoming a key factor in Cloud's character in the movie sequel, in which he has frequent hallucinations of conversing with her (which turn out to be legitimate visions provided by the Lifestream).
One myth that really got me: play as akuma from street fighter in resident evil 2. Some magazine back in the day said If you completed the game 100 percent, that would unlock akuma as a playable character.
Aeris was not killed by Sepharoth. She was impaled through the spine and stomach, which means she was just paralyzed. There's no bloodshed, which supports this thought. Instead, Cloud kills her. while Aeris is Paralyzed, Cloud thinks she is actually dead, and accidentally drowns her. CLOUD WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??
Alec Hughes Look it up. People have a lot of theories on if he's still alive. People like me know he's not alive but we'd love him to still be. Some people just won't let go
Kristian Vulku I don't like any of them but the Treyarch games. Most of the COD series is just, "Hey lets shoot some guys cause we can." Black Ops and WaW have really cool stories and they're just amazing to play. But besides that, I don't give a f@ck about it either. Plus Reznov is one of my all time favorite characters so that helps.
i spent everyday after school spending like 3 hours trying to find bigfoot in that fucking creepy forest in san andreas until i found out it was fake ahahaha by far the best myths in gaming history.

+Godzilla 2014 if herobrine is real.He could make the game not only scary but make the game abit challenging and can annoy players HE CAN GRIEF STRUCTURES!
dinoboy 11 I mean that it's so annoying when it keeps saying "Removed herobrine" "Removed herobrine" "Removed herobrine" but I also wish herobrine was added to 1.7.10
to be fair, with ressurecting aeris the myth had a firm grounding in fact, there is code for a location and side quest etc that would lead to her ressurection and she has dialogue lines coded for every applicable scene after her death but it was cut from the game for some reason only the devs know. you can access the cave thru a gameshark or debug codes and likewise using a shark or code to cheat in aeris actually unlocks all the dialogue
Atari itself didn't bury the E.T. games, they were buried because a game store went bankrupt. Also e.t didn't kill Atari, Atari was just failing. I'M TIRED OF THIS MYTH! It was DEBUNKED in a documentary on atari (forgot the title) its on netflix
eric homewood you're wrong. The buried copy were discovered last year : see here, sorry it's in french www.dailymotion.com/video/x1rqdir_des-cartouches-du-jeu-e-t-sur-atari-2600-retrouvees-dans-le-desert-du-nouveau-mexique_videogames
it's still unconfirmed to me. There's no way intact cartridges would be found after 30+ years being buried there. Stuff found supposedly in that landfill are in too good condition if you ask me!

#1 IS CONFIRMED!!!
They found it last week!
Or last 4 years ago
yep
I love it when we get a new WatchMojo video, I love it even more when it's about games and gaming and we have just got two new game related videos!
the et one is true. there is a documentary where they find and dig them up.
And now L is real is technically true.
No 1 turned out to be true
AT Buried in new Mexico is indeed real. They dug up some of those copies some days ago.
Тимофей Желудков really?
I meant ET, a bit of a mistake, but yeah, really. Here is your daily dose of proof: www.cnet.com/pictures/buried-no-more-atari-et-games-dug-up-pictures/
Тимофей Желудков wow
I don't think it was a myth at all. it was a fact
The moment you realized that this video is released on April fool day
The E.T. myth was proven true fairly recently after many copies of the game being discovered when the New Mexico landfill was being dug up.
I love how very shortly after you made this video they uncovered the E.T Landfill.
How shortly was it?
3:20 ... Dead bodies float. Live bodies sink. Everybody has thought of this if they know about how bodies work

one of THE BIGGEST myths is thinking that in a team based game your team actually functions as a team, fights as one unit, and doesn't argue.
The biggest myth I've ever heard. Somebody told me a looong time ago that Goku was an unlockable character in the original Super Smash Bros for N64. What a waste of time it was trying to unlock him.

I spent so long fruitlessly pushing against that truck in Pokemon Blue...
The E.T. Myth is REAL! IGN jsut relesed a video of them finding an intact cartrige of that game in the dessert of new mexico
this video as well as the urban legends one hold some nostalgic value to me for whatever reason

Yep. A documentary crew found the site later in the same month this video was uploaded.

The Luigi one is real BUT he was supposed to be playable in the original Super Mario 64. We have no idea why they removed him but he was in the files.
Just look at that, one single game that was instrumental in the fall of gaming in the early 80's... and today we have monthly releases of games INTENTIONALLY that bad, or worse... and they are immensely popular!
If E.T. was released today, it would probably top the selling lists...
E.T. myth is 100% true
How about the Assassin's Creed 1. The crossbow seen in the commercial was supposedly an unlock-able weapon after collecting a the flags.
FUN FACT!
The E.T myth was recent;y found out to be true.
They found the E.T games!
Lol we knew this years ago tgey put them there in the 80's lol
yes they did lol

The ET cartidriges were found yesterday
Wasn’t there a rumor that in the original Pokémon games if you pressed a bunch of random buttons You can fly somewhere where you could buy every single Pokémon
Actually, about Luigi in Super Mario 64, he was originally going to appear in a 2-player mode. Said mode was dropped when they ran into issues within the game, but they planned to revive it with the Nintendo 64DD....that add-on bombed HARD.
Oh so that's the reason why he was removed.
Update on #1 since it was actually found over the weekend
giant list of memories right here, thanks guys
Lol they found those E.T. Games today!
The Super Mario 64 myth is finally put to rest!!!!!

They actually buried them XD
Yeah they found them like a week or so ago.
what about the Ocarina of Time myth where the player supposedly could find the triforce for themselves
The mew truck myth stems originally from the Red and Blue games, but back in my wee years I had to use "Cut" on the truck to attain mew.
actually just recently they found a whole stash of games buried in new mexico and one of them was e.t.
In gta san andreas there is a bigfoot but its a 1/10 chance of finding it its comfirmed by rockstar

well they didnt say a bigfoot but they did say it was something
I have the game their are some crazy myths
Jagger Henry 1 Out of 10 people is quite a large chance.
Good top))) was still a very common myth in Mortal Kombat 2 - stage in the forest, it was hidden fatality - food for trees))))

yeah
ET was actually confirmed recently
Lara exploding was GOLD on behalf of Core Design hyping and then dashing teenagers dreams.
i spent everyday after school spending like 3 hours trying to find bigfoot in that fucking creepy forest in san andreas until i found out it was fake ahahaha by far the best myths in gaming history.
What about Valve's games being in the same universe?
Dota and Portal are in the same universe?

I knew the Mew myth would be on here!
You know you can actually capture Mew on Blue or Red? It's a cheat.
number one is no longer a myth
They say it at the beginning of the game, they don't discriminate towards rumors that turnes out to be true
Exactly my thoughts.
That is exactky what I was going to say! There is also a thing on Netflix about the whole thing
So happy i didn't have to post a hate comment asking about Mew's Truck =D
You can get Mew in Pokemon yellow.
It's in the code, weird but true.
Well you could also catch it in Pokemon Blue without even use a Cheatdevice.
there was a popular myth in halo 2 that you could get a golden or gunless warthog in this one map.. Forgot the name of the map however.
there was also the assassin skull in halo 3(was referenced in code but never implemented) that the community went crazy trying to find.
wow I didn't know this. o-o
2:53 of course it doesnt help that weapons are character locked and you can still buy stuff for her after disc 1...

What about Herobrine? Mojang keeps that myth alive by puting in every update to Minecraft:
-Removed Herobrine
It's more of a creepy pasta then a myth
Ikr? It's so freaking annoying!
+Godzilla 2014 if herobrine is real.He could make the game not only scary but make the game abit challenging and can annoy players
HE CAN GRIEF STRUCTURES!
dinoboy 11 I mean that it's so annoying when it keeps saying "Removed herobrine" "Removed herobrine" "Removed herobrine" but I also wish herobrine was added to 1.7.10
weird i played most of these games extensively 1 of them even competitively and ive only ever heard of one of those myths
to be fair, with ressurecting aeris the myth had a firm grounding in fact, there is code for a location and side quest etc that would lead to her ressurection and she has dialogue lines coded for every applicable scene after her death but it was cut from the game for some reason only the devs know. you can access the cave thru a gameshark or debug codes and likewise using a shark or code to cheat in aeris actually unlocks all the dialogue
I saw it too
I saw it too!
eric homewood you're wrong. The buried copy were discovered last year : see here, sorry it's in french www.dailymotion.com/video/x1rqdir_des-cartouches-du-jeu-e-t-sur-atari-2600-retrouvees-dans-le-desert-du-nouveau-mexique_videogames
flodusite what? U make no sense right meow
eric homewood try with your brain
You know that Myth 1 is confirmed, right?
You know this video is from april 1 2014, right?
it's still unconfirmed to me. There's no way intact cartridges would be found after 30+ years being buried there. Stuff found supposedly in that landfill are in too good condition if you ask me!
RaptorZX3 As far as I know, plastic doesn't decompose for a loooong time. I may be wrong, but it seems like that rumour got debunked.
You know they have video evidence of them with an earthmover and them picking out the copies of ET
RaptorZX3 I live in NM. It's confirmed. And Plastic has a slow decomposition rate. and a lot of the games were still sealed and in the original boxes.
