Welcome back! I've just started snowboarding at the age of 48 and have been watching your back catalogue of videos with a great deal of interest and have learnt a lot from them, super cool, thanks 🙂
In a similar vein I am 47 and restarted snowboarding after a 33 year break! I had only done 5 days, so I was more than a little rusty when I went to snow dome recently.
I wish I had found this channel and its sage advice (and I wish I knew about impact shorts) before I went! However, after binge watching and lots of posture practice in my boots at home I feel ready for my next trip!
Thanks Malcom. It is really is great how technical your advice is!
@@FazeredTube Tamworth snowdome?
I went to the Milton Keynes one, but it is the same company.
It hurt, but it was so much fun and I was immediately hooked again. Already booked to go to Tignes in January
@@FazeredTube yup i'm learning at MK too. Bit busy at the moment obvs as the new season is coming, but nice to get some snow under ones board again 🙂
I moved hours around and went during the work day and it was acceptably busy… although it being setup for park wasn’t ideal for the first time back!
Thanks for all of the amazing videos! I just started riding this year and I could not master turning. I watched some of your beginner videos and I was turning on greens and mellow blues (US) within the first 2 days of working on it! I even slowly started to work in a few S shaped turns! I absolutely appreciate the technical explanations that are simplified into intuitive analogies! I'll be sure to watch some more of your vids next time out to improve those S turns!
Welcome back Malcolm! Glad to have you back and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this season :)
My first day of the season is tomorrow and your video couldn’t be more timely!
Awesome, enjoy riding!
I like this technical and logical approach in explanations. Really lets you understand the general idea of what you do leaving no questions
Get this man to 100K subscribers ... absolute gold for any snowboarder!
Thanks Derrick, maybe this season, we'll see 🤞
Awesome. Providing this instruction while moving is so effective. Can literally see the changes in your line, and the sound of the board, as you describe it. Hoping to put this warm up and refresh to work in a couple days. Cheers. Thank you.
Hope it helps! Thanks 🙏☺️
Great to see you back, Malcolm. As a low level intermediate I go over your vids all the time and pick out something new to work on. I know you get a lot of requests but would really love a how to begin jumps and sidehits video from your perspective. Have seen some others but know I would pick up more from whatever tips you have.
Thanks Marcus, I've screenshotted this and it's in my ideas folder, no promises, but maybe later in the season!
Yes please for a side hits video
Thanks Malcolm you are a legend
If I may be so bold, the one thing that many snowboarders and instructors alike overlook is shoulder position. You should keep your shoulders in line with the board as much as possible. It is difficult at first but will greatly improve your ride overall.
Not always. If you make a backside turn you need to twist into the direction where you wanna go. On the frontside turn -position, backside turn +position. Frontside turn push your forward knee to the frontside edge of the nose (of the board, not your face nose). Backside turn point with your forward finger(s) where you wanna go.
Bada bim bada boom. That's it.
@@Scr3amapillarHmm, disagree. You should be opening your knee and hip while putting your weight on that front knee to make that turn, not twisting your torso. Twisting your torso on a board will always throw you out of balance. You might not fall, but it isn't a strong position.
@@G2thesecondpower Trust me, if i show a beginner how to make backside turns like this, he can learn it easy as robbing a lolly from a baby. ;-) I´m instructing since 15 years. I know what i´m talking about. Making turns is like a dance. You need smooth motions, then it´s sexy and easy. If you kick, you fall. Btw: have you ever heard of plus- and minusposition on snowboards? That´s where it comes from.
You are absolutely correct.
@@G2thesecondpower That’s not true. Shoulders should be in line with your board. If not something is wrong with your adjustments.
I've snowboard 2 times in my life and i'm about to go back after a 16 years hiatus, thanks for the tips , real golden content 👌
This is a top vid. Havent been riding for three years so im going to be very rusty come january, love this sort of confidence building content. Top job!
Great video, I'm heading out in December and these are the first exercises I will be using to find my feet again 👍
Awesome, hope it helps!
Thank you Malcom!!! I basically learned Snowboarding with your videos last year, and your refresh videos really helped me to get back into it now.
Awesome!
Hey Malcolm, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I would love to see a video where you explain if you ride differently depending on slope conditions. Hard packed snow vs loose powder snow for example. I find at the end of a busy day on the slopes there is so much loose snow that hide many bumps. Keep it up brother!!!
Thanks for all the great videos! I really enjoyed watching them I’ll be getting back to snowboarding next Monday after 3 years and I only managed to link my turns 3 years ago lol. So looking forward to try these out when I’m back at the snow!
Glad to see you back Malcolm! The notion of body incline is interesting. I have a vague muscle awareness of me doing it but never really paid attention to it. Your video made it really clear. Thank you for that. Looking forward to another great season of content!!!
Thanks 🙌
Day 1 NYE @StevensPass WA/US. Three warm up runs - coffee break + your gif - now off to do these two drills. It’s a great start to the season. Thanks MM.
Hi Malcolm i just wanted to say thank you for giving me all that i needed to learn how to ride for the past two years that I'm watching you. I think i improved from last winter. Your videos are really helpfull keep it up.
Awesome thanks 😊
Just the video i was waiting for, to start well this winter! Thank you very much!!
Amen brother it is great to be back got out 3 days ago to shake off the rust after a little bit was back in grove another great Video keep them coming I always enjoy them
This was very helpful and helped me wrap my head around snowboarding. Can’t wait to hit the slopes.
Good too see your back out 😊. The question that I have is how to go straight balance and technique and to control your spend . Many thanks Jay 🙂
Welcome back Malcolm. Looking forward to the new videos.
Can we also appreciate that technology (Insta360 camera) replaced an actual person behind the camera from Malcolm's videos not so long ago. You will not be forgotten, thank you for giving us all the videos until recently.
I'll be using whoever I can rope in as a cameraman too, don't worry, but yes, when I don't have one the insta360 is very useful!
Thanks for explaining lateral movement. I am a beginner snowboarder and I was having that issue with sliding down the mountain, rather than leaving that line behind me. That definition is definitely what I’ve been looking for. Thanks a ton!!
What does he mean by the lateral movement? I was trying to understand but couldn’t quite get it.
Ignore me. He explains it well at 2:06 👍
EXCITED TO BE BACK!Will do these drills tomorrow.thank you for the knowledge Malcolm!
Awesome, hope they help!
Glad to see you back Malcolm. I counted at least 10 almost collision avoidance in the last second. You didn't look. You had the right of way of course. But a couple if skiers were bombing down the slope. Be careful please..... Im so scared seeing all this guys riding like this. Keep it coming
Very good explanation.Valuable content as always. Thank you so much.
Thanks!
A handful of your videos helped me for my first season last year. Glad to see you back.
Awesome 👌
this is awesome. the production quality , the content, the shots, everything gets better and better. love it!
Thanks!
Welcome back Malcolm! Can't wait for your videos!
Thanks, appreciate it 🙏
We missed you!! please don't leave it so long next time . Looking super slick .The new Jones kit looks amazing ,great choice🙌🙌
Huge thanks Malcolm. I’m out in Mayrhofen having not been on a board for 8 years. First day was rusty so I’ve spent a couple of hours looking at your videos. They’ve really helped. Can’t wait to get out there tomorrow and practice your teachings 👍🏻
Happy to help!! Enjoy your holiday 😊😊
Welcome back Mr Moore! Loving the video as always - and the new threads!
Thanks, this will probably be by go to work jacket for instructing, and I'll have another set for videos, spoilt for choice!
Great to have you back Malcolm
Thanks Niall!
I highly appreciate these videos!
Going on my 3rd snowboarding trip next week.
Awesome, enjoy!
Nice to see you back on the slopes, making new vids. I love them. Even though I'm experienced. It is easygoing and brings tranquillity in my preparation for my upcomming trip to the French Alps in January. Thx!
Awesome, hope you get all the powder on your holiday!
Hi Malcom. What type of bindings are you using?
@@erincasey2844 Nidecker Supermatics 👌
SUCH a good teacher!
Thanks 🙌
Great refreshment! Short and simple. Thanx.
Thank you!!
That second exercise very much resembles what I naturally find myself doing when I'm waiting on others to catch up. Your videos are great because it is easy to see how they can appeal to all experience levels. Everything is presented with regard to principles having broad application.
Right on schedule! I binged so much of your back catalog before the start of this season. Thanks Malcolm!
Awesome, thanks Jeffrey!
Definitely needed this, going back on the snowboard soon! Great vid
Awesome 👌
Great to see you back in your board. Only 78 days till our first ADH trip ❤. That’s a serious motorway of a run you started on. Keep the vids coming.
78, in Feb then?
@@malcolmmoore yes. First trip feb half term, Then 2nd week in march, then Easter 😎👍🏻 can’t wait.
So immensely helpful, thankyou!! :)
I never saw a better filmed video than this! Thank you 👍
Wow, thanks!
Really nice hints!
Awesome video! I might need to upgrade my X2, that looks beautiful. Excellent instructions as usual, we are getting lots of good habits from your videos, the language you are using is excellent. Thanks so much, happy riding
Thanks, I'll drop my X3 review next Wednesday I think, just finishing editing up right now!
Hi Malcom, very cool video, and so helpful to watch before heading back out on the mountain!
I would *love* a video that's a cross between this one and your "Top to Bottom in Alpe d'Huez" video. So basically a POV video wearing a helmet cam where you're describing what you're doing, eg:
- toe side
- flexing
- extending
- knee rotates out
- heel side
- flexing
- extending
- knee rotates in
...
A video like that would really help me visualize riding before hitting the slopes again after a break.
Keep up the great work! I'm not likely to get out to Alpe d'Huez in the near future, but if you come out to the Lake Tahoe area any time let me know -- I'd love to sign up for some lessons with you (and I'm sure there would be plenty of other people as well!)
TRAVEL IS BACK! Hypeeeeeee! Going to Niseko this winter cant wait.
Ah man jealous!!!!
Thank you for making such informative videos!
Thanks 🙌
Honestly your videos were so helpful Ty man. I watched a bunch before I went and picked it up so quickly thanks to you!
Incredible happy to help!!
Great warmup drills~~!Definitely try them in the future. Great to see you again in Winter~!
Thanks, more coming soon!
Thanks Coach! as usual great video 👍🏼
Thanks!
Another great video thanks 🙏
So good to have you back 🙂.
Thanks!
Thank your for the amazing tips! Greats from Austria
Thanks, appreciate it 🙏
Really good info and exercise. Great videos you have.
Salut Malcolm, je suis ravi de voir cette video. Learned a lot from your instruction from last couple of years. Wish you an eventful season ahead.
Merci Alex! ✌
Welcome back Malcom, Good to see you back in the season.
Thanks Anesh 🙌
Welcome back legend! January 21st I will visit the Alpe d'huez for my second year of snowboarding. Started learning last year with your videos. Almost broke my shoulder the first day, but I kept on going (full of painkillers). Hope this year will be a smooth week. Maybe I'll see you in D'Huez! 😎👊🏻
I'm sure you'll see me teaching, make sure you say hello!
Ooh yeah, he’s back! Been waiting ages for the next instalment 👍
Thanks Paul!
Amazing!!!
I went to the indoor snow slope to start learning the basics and that awful skid to skid rotation is peak me right now haha. I need to work on that lateral movement example from the start of your video and then work towards blending in the rotation as you did. Thanks for all the awesome tutorials Malcolm!
Cool, I started on those indoor slopes too, great places to learn!
Hi Malcolm, I'm a BASI L1 but have the opportunity to teach in the mountains as I'm in the military. Your videos are an essential resource for my development lessons and coaching. Thank you
Awesome, yeah the military supports snowsports really well, lots of opportunities there for sure!
Good to have you back😄 best channel ever🥳
cant wait for the season to begin...
Thanks Eric!
beautiful
Don’t like to blow my own trumpet but I’m probably expert level, however I love watching these tutorials. Bad habits certainly creep in & it’s good to get your mind right for the next ski holiday
Great video thanks, been 2 years back this winter
Enjoy!!
Bout to start my season tomorrow so perfect timing on the video ☺️
Awesome, enjoy the snow!
It finally snowed where i'm from! it wasn't much but i'm so excited! rewatching this video for the nth time so i don't start from the beginning all over again xd
Awesome, enjoy the snow!
Thankyou for the refresher Malcolm! I love your videos, you always pick out the most fundamental things i do wrong as a beginner. Could you also do a refresher like this video for long flat runs? I tend to freeze when gathering speed on those and eventually fall or catch an edge. Will try to follow the flat runs and edge catch instructions you have already given in the past but a refresher like this one would be nice! Thankyou!
Thanks, and good idea!
Yeah, coach MM is back! Good to see you back on snow, mate! 🤙
Yes Thomas, hope you're well 👍
Your videos are super helpful!
Glad you think so!
Really great tips! Thank you
You're welcome 🙏😊
You have a great voice to listen to
Perfect timing. Riding the hintertux for 10 days to start of the season 🥳
Nice, love Tux!
WELCOME BACK!!!
Was waiting forever for a new release.
Thanks, can't wait to get going, I did a trip to Switzerland last week to film this and a few others, and my resort opens up next weekend 😀
@@malcolmmoore My resort opens up next Thursday. I bought myself Nidecker Supermatic for this season thanks to your review. Can't wait to try it out.
Have a safe and fun season👍.
@@HungNguyen-gl9oz awesome, enjoy!
You are THE BEST! Always capable of explaining difficult skills such as carving in a simple way!
Veronica! Thanks, and I hope you're well!
Nice one Malcolm, thank you. I'm flying to Bansko 7 Jan. Been a few years since I slid sideways , so I will be putting myself through a few of your drills, starting with these. PS Nice new threads 🙂
Thanks, enjoy Bansko, I have good memories from that place!
Not a question, but I love to see your fun vids too, chasing Andy, coming down the Tunnel run etc. I know thats not really the objective of the channel, but I love to watch your vids like that as I'm on my cross trainer, visualising coming the down myself, it really is great motivation to work hard. I've watched them countless times lol. Keep up the great work
Awesome to hear, yeah I'll be back with more of them soonish, it's still early season here and only the top of the mountain has enough snow right now!
Love it!!!
Thanks Dan 🙌
WOHO ! NEW VIDEOS
Yes! Big Malc's back with a new deck and threads! Can't wait for more vids. 🤘🏽🏂
They're coming!
Return of the king 👑
Haha, too kind!
Awesome video! I’ve learned a lot
Awesome 🙌🙌
You can make tight turns with almost no skid with more weight transfer between turns. I learned this by being towed behind a snowmobile on a trail that had no room for skidding. In manitoba we call mountains hills and they're usually ice 😉
Nice vid and good to see you back. RIP the Nurofen dot 🙂
😂 I'm sure it'll be back!
Good to see you back Malcolm! What bindings are those and how do you like them?
Credits to the cameraman 👏
Not sure if you're trying to make a joke here or not? 😂
Welcome back MM!! Thank for all the tips! I think I struggle with keeping my back straight and not sticking my butt out when getting low. Any exercise to correct that posture? I may be trying to get too low? Thanks mate! Keep it up!!
Yeah you could be trying to get too low, if you ride faster you'll naturally get lower, and because you're going faster you'll be able to incline back into the turn more to keep your back straighter, but usually you don't actually need to get mega low, there's still movement, but it doesn't need to be huge. And finally if you want to try super low heel side carves for instance where you get your hands down in the snow then you end up in a bit of a squashed tucked in posture anyway, but that's something for another video!
Some pro level S shape video editing there!
Only the best, hope you're well Eric, and getting a trip somewhere this winter!
Hi Malcolm, thanks for your awesome videos and insights. I started snowboarding a week ago and I love it!
Something that bothers me alot is how clumsy I am with small movements/ getting around in small places. For instance at the beginning of a piste where I have to make a quick 90 degrees turn to get onto the slope.
Or quickly avoiding something on my path. Or taking a zig-zag path before reaching the slope.
I guess in this video the kind of board control you show at 0:10 , 1:39.
Can you recommend some exercises for this?
On a slope I can make my turns and I am confident in the progress ahead of me.
On those small movements/corrections/manoeuvrability i feel lost and maybe even a danger to people around me.
Looking forward to your thoughts on this💪
Great reminder. :)
🙌
So good to see MM's videos back. I love all the comments, some of them addressing speed on the board. Does a wider stance help with speed or hinder turn radius?
Thanks, hmmm, I'm not sure to be honest if a wide stance would change too much with regards to speed. A wider stance gives you a bit more stability, but it can also hamper some movements if you go too wide. Basically go with whatever is comfortable for you! Ultimately I've seen people make it work with both!
missed you bro. so smooth getting into the nideckers !!
Nice to see you in new season.Your special relationship with Jeremy.J is still tight🤙🏻, nice outwear.Stay safe, good luck✌🏻
😂😂😂 love it, yeah this will likely become my new uniform for teaching in, and I'll have another set that I'll likely use in videos!
Enjoy the season, stay safe , always first snowboard lessons to recommand on youtube.🤙🏻
Started at 55, 71 now watch many videos. Malcom is great no matter skill level👍
Thanks Thomas, you've been riding longer than me! Only just!
Welcome back, you are by far the best snowboard instructor I've seen and I fully expect your channel to blow up!
Wanted to ask - do you still do 121 lessons? If so, where are you based and how might people arrange a session?
Hi, sorry for the late reply! Been really busy with lessons haha! So yes in answer to your question i still teach, I'm based in Alpe d'Huez France. You can find my website in the description of the videos with details. Thanks ☺️☺️
Niedeker step in bindings 😍😍😍
damn this POV is sick, quality video!
Thanks!
Watching u go diagonal across the mountain is stressing me out 😂 but great lesson man, I’m passing this video on to my buddy’s! Cheers mate 🍻
Super video comme toujours 👍
Merci!
