- Alex Lifeson has created an amazing Octave/Fuzz pedal called Snow Dog in honor of the characters from the Rush Epic "By-Tor and The Snow Dog". In a previous demo I showed the powerful By-Tor Pedal, and today we unleash his arch nemesis, "Snow Dog", I even take it one further and show how By-Tor and Snow Dog can even work together to create a wide array of super cool sounds! Join me as the battle begins. (Apologies if it looks like I was having too damn much fun, because, I was having too damn much fun...!)

Didn't know you had a RUclips channel John, loved seeing you live with Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson back in the day! Subscribed!
I spy a Memory Lane, greetings man of culture. I gotta say I am usually not a fan of fuzz nor a fan of octave but some of these tones are JUICE.
That setup sounds so awesome the fuzz is really cool it sounds pretty clear even with the octave nice rippin John 🤘🎸👍
Thanks Mark... its a really amazing pedal, covers both bases for sure!
Wow that fuzz took my breath away too!
So nice, and the way it is powered and the way versatility in the settings makes it really usable in the real world.
I can hear Page ripping Lemon Song with this pedal . Super gnarly .
It most certainly evokes that thing...can't wait to record it!
Hey John I found out about your channel via the email that you sent. So, wanted to let you know that that worked well. Really interesting to hear the stories and experience of you as a journeyman guitarist. Good luck with the channel! It’s awesome
Thank you! And more to come...!
Sold !! .. Im wanting Both pedals !! .. The Fuzz Demo @4:30 Smokes !!!!
I hear ya Bruce... you won't be disappointed, they crush!
Looks amazing sounds even better Lerxst guitars and amps are amazing…. And expensive 😂
They are great things, Alex is not messing around!
I am not a fan of the thin, tin can fuzz effect. I would have been drooling over an Alex Lifeson Chorus-compression room expander. The Flux Capacitor will probably come out first.
Do you have the octave before or after the fuzz in this video? Thank you
The Octave is after the fur and when I bring in the By Tor is last in the chain as well, you can switch it up, but it was a usable sound, maybe as something crazy for a synth type sound, but didn't work for me. On the other hand, I am really loving the potential of this pedal and will keep on my recording board for sure. (My touring board is a very small Quad Cortex rig).
Which pedals will you be touring this year?
Hi Karin, I will be touring a small pedal board that can fly, with the Quad Cortex on it and a Strymon Timeline and Cloudburst for extra delays and verbs!
Did he use a fuzz in By Tor?? I need to re listen to that..............I thought that was just his 50 watt Marshall, ES 335 and EP3/Maestro Phaser along with studio reverb ....Wonder if he snuck it in there?? I was surprised he did a fuzz/octave pedal. To be honest, I do not ever recall Alex using Fuzz/Octave in Rush ever. Maybe this pedal project is the result of Fuzz/Octave envy......I think Alex is getting bored up there in Toronto eating too many pastries, drinking lattes and watching pedal videos ha ha ha...this proves he must get back on tour ASAP. He needs an intervention....
I kind of feel that an EH pitch fork and fuzz face mini and big muff of your choice will do way more for not much more....unless you are a Rush fanatic, which has the whole collector aspect...............Would love to see his attempt at redoing that 3 button Maestro phaser and an Electric Mistress though.......Cool you have a page doing this ! We had a great conversation when we were both playing at Download back stage in 2010 when you were with PT. Wish you well. Cheers!
I must be crazy, because every time I hear someone demo this pedal I think it sounds like absolute shit. It's shrill, blistering awful high end is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. I actually bought this pedal the second it came out and have not received it yet, but judging by demo videos like this one, I'm already planning on flipping it to get my money back.
🤡
with you on all counts
@@johncoleman4986 I'm bummed, because I was thinking it would sound like Jimi Hendrix's Octavia, but man, this thing is just screeching with no tone. I'll still play with it when it arrives, but if it's not happening I'll be re-selling it immediately.
I do not recall Alex ever using Fuzz/Octave in Rush...And I know their catalogue and gear used pretty exclusively. Pitchfork plus Fuzz of your choice like Big Muff/Fuzz Face is a way better option than this pedal.....I think Alex has been eating too many pastries and drinking too many lattes getting fat on the couch watching guitar pedal videos developing a Fuzz Octave Envy up there in Toronto ha ha ha .....somebody get that man back on tour ASAP......Geddy needs to do an intervention.
@@halholbrookspussy Got mine a few days ago and I have to say that I really do like the fuzz section. I think it's more of a Tone Bender than a Fuzz Face style. The octave is...not an octave by any means. Very unusual effect and I don't think I'll be using it much.
