- Alex Lifeson and his "Lerxt" brand are creating some products based on his working rigs and the sounds and tones that he loves to hear and use. The By-Tor pedal is voiced to emulate the Lerxt Omega amp's tone and versatility, being able to go from a clean tight crunch to the legendary growl and guts that are a signature of the Alex Lifeson tone, brought to life and to us in the public space by the Lerxt Omega amp. I put together a demo based on how I would use this pedal, check it out and decide how you would use the By-Tor to create your own palette of tone!
*** Correction: The studio was in Toronto, not Quebec, I was on tour and had been a in a bus for a while, it all runs together so memories fade a bit. Sorry!

Non-guitarist here, but lifelong music lover and fan of yours since 2005 with P-tree. Absolutely incredible tones! 🎸
Love it! So happy you are enjoying it all!
Thank you John. Great insightful descriptions and demo. Rush geeks united! 😄
Thank you!
I love love love my lerxst by tor. Thank you immensely for showing this pedals capabilities.
Just a little bummed I didn't get any cool stickers. Who doesn't like stickers yo!!! 😁
So good, having the two sides makes it so flexible!
No stickers in the box? What!!!
Thanks for making these videos. Very well done and informative. And I would've geeked out over the Rush stickers in the box as well!!
I mean the pedal is cool but...the stickers... yeah man!
Very cool.
Loved your playing with Porcupine Tree live years ago. Your vocals on the live version of Fadeaway were fantastic. Thanks for the demo.👍
Thank you James, those were good years and great gigs back then. Appreciate you checking back in ... more to come!
That tone made me a subscriber…WOW!
Thank you! Yeah...I have to say all of the Lerxt gear I have tried so far leads to really cool tones... love it...
Awesome stuff sir!!I can watch this kind of thing all day!
Thank you!
Nice tones young Lad! Bringing the RAWK as always!🤘
Not sure I understand the intro. Clockwork Angels was recorded in Toronto, long after The Studio in Quebec had closed. Either the location's wrong or the album title is.
Yeah... my mistake and the video was already up when I realized it. I was on a tour bus at the time and the memories are blurry. I blame "bus lag". You are absolutely correct, it was Toronto... not Quebec.
If you are a Rush Geek? We will get along just fine. I'm all eyes and ears for your future shows. I subscribed right of the bat. Looking forward to them. I love Alex's playing. He is a big influence for me.
Yeah man... I may have been seen walking around with a Cherry Sunburst LP and the album version of A Farewell to Kings under my arm in my teens...
*Lerxst. Love this video, and channel! Fantastic, keep it up!!
Thanks man...more to come for sure...
I'm really enjoying these videos John, really helpful and insightful, thank you.
Thank you Chris!
Very cool. Love these demos. Ed
Thank you brother!
Mr. Wesley...love to here the story on how you got together with Wilson and Porqupine Tree....Love your playing....
I will most certainly get into that at some point in future vids... thanks man...
What a great sounding pedal! Very organic, chewy, warm. My kind of pedal.
Very accurate description...
So did Fender make a prototype of the hentor which Alex decided not to go with?
Also the pickup selector in the middle position, does that activate all three pickups?
Great review, can’t wait to get my hands on one of these pedals!
Great question, when Mojotone was developing the pickup assembly, they needed to house it in a Strat to check it out at the different stages. When it was finished they sent the prototype housed in a USA Fender Strat down to me so I could do a demo video of it. I liked it so much I ordered an assembly for myself and just released a video of it being dropped into a Beck Strat... thanks man!
Very good, brings in alot of punch.
Agreed...
Aarrrgh!!! Something else I can’t afford 😂 Great vid Wes 🤟🏻👌🏻
You and me both!
The pickup is a Bill Lawrence L500. You can still get them.
There's lot's Alex's- ism's in the tone box. Pretty cool
Agreed...
Great video! The Lerxst amp is based on a Marshall 2550 Silver Jubilee.
It is... I had a 2550 loaned to me for a while and the Lerxst does it justice!
10k views, Bro!!! Keep up the great work, Wes...
So close!
Thanks man great video I just saw you! Just subscribed that pedal looks and sounds great 👍 ❤.
Yeah man... it really does a lot, really enhances the amp.
👍 Awesome Wes
I like the SnowDog! Good sound.
Yeah man...both pedals are very good!
amazing. What gauge strings are you using?!?
Greg, I am using the GHS .010 Nickel Rockers...love them. They sound like the strings I used as a young player... thanks man!
does itr give you the 70s or that grace under pressure tone???
You can certainly dial that tone in... having the right guitar set up for that tone helps... he was using a few different guitars in that time period. But I love this pedal...
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist I wouldn't know how to dial any tone in lol. Whenever some days that have a tone of someone I'm usually saying nope doesn't sound like it to me. The gup tone might be the chorus with light flanger in what I hear. I thought he was using and mxr gain pedal too. Yes dial in close enough to play the song but I want more. I'm moving away from playing at my age to production Think I'm going to need to go to school for this.
Thats a nice Hentor Strat guitar 🎸🎸.
Hi Roger, this was the prototype built on a fender body with the Hentor Electronics, the actual new Hentor is made by Godin but Mojotone will sell the electronics as a drop in for any Strat style guitar, I got hooked when I tried this one out.
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist thanks for the response, enjoyed watching the video. Rush on man 🤘🍻🍺🎼👏👍🎸🎸
Dude, you really are trying to drain my bank account aren't you Wes 🤣😂🤣
Yeah...it's a thing...!
Did you use any of it in the Bubba Bash ?
I didn't as I didn't have the pedal yet, the prototype Lerxt pickup assembly was in a Strat that I was not comfortable with, so I went with my main PRS, the parts were tough and that guitar is so comfortable to me and always sounds good... Billy did have a Quad Cortex and that was the basis for the guitar tones at Bubba Bash.
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist well you still sounded Incredibly Great .. I still watch and listen to that Video Repeatedly and Often !!
@@brucek2946 Thank you!!!
Very nice! I suppose it would be presumptuous to assume a Snow Dog pedal is in the works.
It would be the natural progression...
I have the D&M Drive, also a boost/drive, so this is interesting
Yeah...so this is a tough one. I have the D&M drive as well. Really love it. Similar concept. Both superb quality, but voiced differently. It's a matter of taste and as each of us hear things differently, I could not tell you which one you would prefer. My take is the By-Tor is more aggressive. But it's easy to tame and could do any gig with it... could be fun to have both...but... ya know...economics and stuff...
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist And here I thought the D&M was aggressive! Lol thanks for the vid.
I've been looking at this pedal for a while now and they haven't really been available. I don't know if production stopped, but unless you catch a used one on Reverb, I don't think you can get them.
They're just going into full production. Should be available now
@@notmyrealhandle Amazing! I just went to the website, and you're right! Thank you!
@@musicmann1967 yeah they are out now, I timed the video to release day...
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist Nice! I'm glad I saw this. Thanks!
What brand is the Strat ?
The Strat I am playing there was an American Fender they used to put the prototype Lerxt Pickup assembly into, the actual new Lerxt Guitar is made by Godin. godinguitars.com/?s=lerxst&post_type=product.
@@TheJourneymanGuitaristthank you!
Cool vids brother. We should do a vid together sometime. Rock!
Johnny Chromatic 🤘😁👍🎸
Absolutely !
This isn’t helping my gas
Right????!!!
@@TheJourneymanGuitarist I need all the gear but have none of the talent - love your playing and your solo albums are great too
@@eoinjennings519 Thank you...that is greatly appreciated...
There's no cure.
Absolut not for DEATH METAL ☝️
Fair...it's not very "Deathy"...
