  • In this video, we're saying goodbye to our old friend the Fuji X Pro 3. Thanks for all the great memories, we'll miss you! Although I'll miss shooting with this camera, I know that I'll be able to find another good friend in the future. Thanks for all the memories, Fuji X Pro 3!
    I show you some photos made recently with this camera and highlight some of the reasons I like it as much as I do. Is there an X-Pro 4 on the horizon? We will have to wait and see.

    I love my X-Pro2 so much, I never saw a reason to 'upgrade'. I personally prefer the sensor/processor combo in my X-Pro2 & X-T2 over the later iteration, mostly because of the way it handles high ISO noise.

      X-Pro2 with the fuji 18 f2 and 35 f1.4. It makes me smile every time I pick this kit up to take outside for a walk. I never considered the X-Pro3. That said, if there is an X-Pro4 on the horizon, with maybe the 40mp sensor and rapid auto focus, then I could be tempted! 😂

    I love my x pro3. I have the Duratect Black version but I would have prefered the silver version, but yeah, they are a bit rare to come by now and I found a good deal on a used duratect black one. Now I am one year in with this camera and still love it. Small lenses make this camera even more fun and recently I got the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.2. manual focus and x pro3 is super fun.

    I really liked the Xpro3. But after a few months the screen really started to be a pain. In all honesty it's on backwards and is really stupid. The fact that the ribbon cable breaks because of the wear and tear on it is just adding insult to injury... Here's hoping the Xpro4 gets the X100VI screen treatment with the 235 battery. That would be an instant pre-order for me.

      Steve - Yes expensive but understandable given they can only make a certain amount. Not like Canon and Sony giants who now have too many cameras sitting on the shelves. I think the XT5 is reasonable but the XH line is a bit too much. I love the Fujicrons great small lenses.

      Steve. All the camera companies products are expensive. Not just cameras.
      Have you looked at the retail price of Canon glass these days? And they won't open the R mount to 3rd party manufacturers.
      If one buys used through a good camera store or MPB / KEH a Fuji X-T3 / Fuji X-T30 / X-E3 plus a couple of lenses will come in at less than some of Canon or Sony's pro glass and if you know your stuff deliver great results.

    I got the Xpro 3 literally the day before they announced it was discontinued (pure luck!) and I was kinda ehhhhh with it at first. There was no doubt that it took some great photos, but something about it just felt like an imitator, not an original. I kept going back to using my Leica TL2 instead. Decided to force myself to use it for a week and not use my Leica. Once I started using the xpro 3 as it is instead of expecting it to be something else (like an M camera) the experience became fantastic. I found the Fuji lenses to be a bit soulless for me so I added a voigtlander Nokton 23 f1.2 and it was the game changer I was looking for. Looks clear enough to have a professional look to the photos, but they don’t have that over sharpened, characterless look that many Fuji/modern lenses have. Overall, I’ll probably end up keeping this one for a long time. I do wish the OVF was bigger, like an M10, but I can’t complain considering what I got for $1800 in the xp3. I honestly have no idea how Fuji packs that many features and such into camera for that price.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

      Yes a great camera. The M10 is also a fantastic camera.

      Hi, I’m thinking about the voigtlander 23 f1.2 too on my xpro3. I haven’t found many photos or work shared on internet with those two. Do you have instagram or some photos posted that I could see just to understand if I can feel that character I’m searching for. I do truly thought about that voigtlander but what I’ve seen here on RUclips was not enough for me to get a conclusion. I already added a misty filter to my fujicron 23mm but it seems too perfect anyway even tweaking my photos on Lightroom. I’m happy with a mitakon speed master 35mm f0.95 on my xpro3 so manual focus will not be a problem to me. I enjoy how manual focus slows the pace when I go out with the xpro3 and I do take the chance to explore the manual dials for shutter speed and iso. The fact is that voigtlander is not a cheap lens and I do intend to be more careful about this deal (you can buy any f1.4 Fuji lens on that price). Thank you

    The price of the X-Pro 3 will buy you enough film for your Leica M5 for how many years? Digital has lots of advantages but the Fujicrons also work well on your X-T5 and shooting analogue is always a refreshing experience after not having done it for a while. So there is no real reason for adding a X-Pro 3 to your equipment. But I consider myself guilty of not following my own advise as I already own a X100V in addition to a X-T3 and a Leica M4 (and IIIf), the digital rangefinder (X100V) beeing my most-used camera.

    • @KirkWilliamsonphotography

    I own the x pro 3 and really like it. BUT I cannot wrap my head around why Fuji has not given any major firmware updates to this luxury camera at all! Making matters worse, no information about the class action lawsuit against faulty parts of the x pro 3 from Fuji. No recalls, no apologies, or nothing from them! I kind of lost faith in where Fuji wants to go and doubt even they have a proper quality assurance department.

      The margin between used and new has narrowed because of the production problems. Lots of sectors have been hit inc. auto through chip shortages.
      It is a case of supply and demand and businesses like KEH and MPB can ramp up their prices and close arbitrage because demand isn't being met by manufacturers.

    I am elated that I bought my ‘3’ when I did 2 years ago. While I still love Fuji’s offerings (well most anyways), Fuji’s business model seems to be changing over the last year or so. They seem not to be as interested in listening to their customer base as intently as they once did. The “Kaizen” policy seems to have fallen by the wayside, downgrading the X-T lineup to 2nd tier status and the gall not to supply the ‘5’ with a Battery Pack. Bringing forward 2 new ‘ Flagships’, with PASM👎 controls and requiring an overpriced CF express card to operate the camera (and I have no interest in video). I don't know, seems that Fuji is losing its heart and soul, then again, I may be overreacting. Great video as usual, keep ‘ coming...👍

    • @ianroe1076
      @ianroe1076 Год назад +2

      While I can't comment on whether they should or shouldn't be continuing to add features to their older cameras, the problems you have with the XH series seem to miss the purpose of those cameras. PASM controls are optimized for studio environments in which presets are frequently needed, and CFXpress is a requirement for extremely high resolution and high bitrate video (which is really what those cameras are designed around). Also, as another commenter mentioned, the XT5 really doesn't need a battery grip. I can record about an hour of 4K30 on my XT4 without needing to switch batteries, and, again, the XT5 is really optimized for still shooting where the XH series is optimized for video. It's all a matter of what you're buying the camera for. I think its also important to point out that Fuji is still updating the XT lineup more frequently than the XH lineup, which only has three cameras (and two are almost identical).

    • @JeffreyHauser
      @JeffreyHauser Год назад +1

      I understand that Fuji has differentiated it’s XT line from the XH lineup of cameras. Regardless, I would have preferred the option of a battery grip on an XT-5. I find a battery grip is valuable for long days of shooting, particular in shooting in a “ portrait mode” as opposed to “landscape mode”. Having a shutter button on the battery grip as opposed to the camera body allows for a more comfortable grip, & provides a better balance to the camera when using long telephoto lenses. I have two XT-3 camera bodies with the battery grips attached to each. I know the XT-5 battery is more efficient, but I do not believe that I will purchase a future XT camera that does NOT offer the battery grip option. Maybe at a later point in time, I may choose to look at the XH camera line.

    • @cameraman655
      @cameraman655 Год назад +1

      @@polygoncoco I shoot with the 150-600, 50-140, and looking at the 200 f2! and trust me that ‘bottom half’ is a Godsend on all-day shoots (particularly sporting events, airshows, and the like). That said, just out of sheer necessity, I may have to purchase an XH-2 almost solely for its BP and buffer (another thing that grinds me about crippling the X-T lineup). Thankfully, I kept my ‘3’ with the booster, still a great rig, sans the 40mp sensor and noticeably superior AF of the ‘5’.

    • @ianroe1076
      @ianroe1076 Год назад

      @@cameraman655 I really don't think the superior buffer of the XH2S is crippling the XT lineup, its just logical for how the cameras are designed. The XT lineup is a renewed take on the classic camera SLR, which were generally always designed to be lower profile and simpler than early DSLRs would end up being. The readout speed of the XH2S is due to the stacked sensor, which makes it very suited for video. Because it is more suited for video, it writes to CFXpress, which is necessary for highest quality video and is way overkill for most stills shooting. The XH2 is just the XH2S with the XT5's sensor. All of the other hardware is the same, such as the CFXpress that allows the faster writing speed. Putting a CFXpress card in the XT5 wouldn't have been very useful to most of its users, and would have increased the size of the body as well as the cost of actually purchasing the camera (plus the equipment needed to transfer the the files to your computer).
