  • Discover one of the top-rated beaches in the world, Flamenco Beach. There, we visit the iconic military tank, explore Zoni Beach, and more.
    Culebra, Puerto Rico, also known as La Isla Chiquita (The Little Island), is located 17 miles east of the Puerto Rican mainland and is home to fewer than 2000 residents. Formerly part of the Spanish Virgin Islands, it’s home to a variety of wildlife including deer, sea turtles, coral, and of course its namesake, snakes.
    Exploring this island has been on our bucket list since we visited its neighbor, Vieques to see the incredible bioluminescent bay there. In this two-part series, we explore the best of Culebra in 24 hours.

    Seemed like a semi-frustrating morning for you guys but that gorgeous beach looked worth it! (And _phew!_ no ticket on your carrito.) Boy do we empathize with maps saying things are open but then being closed. Such a drag! That second beach looked amaze-balls!! Great video.I'm an American who's been living in Puerto Rico 24 yrs..in San Juan.I love seeing your videos ,especially the ones from here.It's good to see you trying new foods,like yucca and other delicacies from here.On that note,in my opinion you guys being vegans might want to expand on that theme.From my experience many veganos here in PR go the route of viandas(root vegetables)prepared in many different ways.Viandos are cheap,plentiful and have a good shelf life.Try some of the majados that are prepared in some of the resteraunts like majado de yautia,batata,boniato,yucca,there are many varieties and really delicious.I think we can all agree you need more than 24 hrs to really see Culebra,so I'm gone be waiting for your next video.

    The first time I visited Culebra was in 1978. The beach area was more pristine, no construction of any sort except the residence of the Marquez family and a wood chapel where the parking is now, built by the community during the last days of the US Navy's target practice bombing. From Playa Flamenco all the way to Punta Molinos there was very little vegetation and you could see many more tanks not visible today (approximate 15 to 20) because of the overgrowth of the thorny "Palo de Rayo" bushes. The mayor of Culebra at the time was Claro C. Feliciano and if I am not wrong he was an educator and wrote a book about the history of the island.

    Great video! Next time you guys come to Culebra, go to El muellecito. It’s Flamenco beach but the entrance is on the East end of the beach. You don’t have to worry about parking or getting a ticket. Also since the pandemic started the majority of the restaurant’s have remained closed unfortunately. Don’t trust google for restaurant times and days on Culebra.😂

    It is an issue in Puerto Rico. My grandma complains about how “the young people are changing things and want to take away plastic grocery bags and straws.” She was so upset but I tried to educate her as to why it’s important and she was NOT feeling it lol. Hopefully things change for the better as education continues to spread. It’s videos like these that can help bring attention to those who really didn’t think it was an issue.

    Glad you are living in PR and visiting awesome places. I personally like Vieques much more than Culebra, Vieques has 10 times more beaches as pretty, fortress, museums, nature spots, ruins, etc. And also in Vieques you wouldn't have had any problems finding food at all times, and much better. But, in Vieques you definitively need a car, it is a must. I am shocked that you hadn't tried Yuca(cassava). It is very versatile, you can do tostones, palitos(like french fires), mashed, dough for pasteles, etc... I am sure you tried it but weren't aware of it.

    Isn't it silly that they make you wash your hands before walking on to a beach? What does that accomplish? Also decades ago I stopped drinking anything hot out of styro-foam cups because the beverage leaches benzene put from the cup. The beaches sure are pretty but I'm not sure I'd want to make a trip to anywhere that had so few places to buy food. You'd think there would be an abundance of fresh ripe tropical fruit there at least.

    I LOVE Culebra! Do you ever think of making these blog-type videos in Spanish? As a Spanish learner, I am trying to immerse myself in the language, so I try to only watch Spanish language videos.

      Hi Julia - thanks for watching! We usually try to include some Spanish in all of our videos, but the vlogs are meant to be more for inspiration to travel to spanish speaking countries. If you want content that’s completely in Spanish, you should check out our podcast! Just look up “Learn Spanish and Go” wherever you listen to podcasts. We even have a membership with more resources for getting the most out of each episode. Un saludo. -Jim

    Never seen a lifeguard at Flamenco...ever. Are the local, colorful, lively kiosks playing salsa and Reggaeton all gone? Kind of breaks my heart. The last time I was there the restoration proposal included tearing down all the kiosks to be replaced by cement buildings....looks like it's happening.......

    There’s usually bathrooms, small kiosks that sell food, groceries, souvenirs, etc, and there’s usually parking too. It’s unfortunate that you guys chose to go during the pandemic.

      The last time i was in Culebra was 2019. The Culebra restoration project's photos at flamenco showed an entirely newly constructed Kiosk area. All cement buildings...no life, no color....this is what they seem to be doing.......

    "come y vete" is not come and go is, eat and go! And it was a common term used to call fast food!

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  3 года назад +1

      You're absolutely correct - that is the literal translation. But where I'm from Kum & Go is a convenience store where you can get a quick bite to eat and leave. So some people say "I'm hungry for something quick... is there a Kum and Go around here?" Right away when I saw that I figured it meant about the same thing in Spanish. -Jim

    “Come y Vete” means “Eat and Go” not come and go.

    • @SpanishandGo
      @SpanishandGo  3 года назад

      No es una traducción literal. En inglés un “Kum and Go” es un lugar para comprar comida rápida para llevar. Me parece que un “Come y vete” es la misma idea, ¿no? -Jim
